49ers signed OG Adam Snyder to a two-year contract.
The 94th pick in the 2005 draft, 31-year-old Snyder returns home after a failed one-year stint in Arizona, where he was exposed as a sub-average starter to be kind. Back in San Francisco, Snyder will be a perfect swing backup with the ability to play three positions on the line -- right tackle and both guard spots. Mon, May 6, 2013 04:18:00 PM

Cardinals released RG Adam Snyder.

Snyder, 31, signed a "five-year, $17.5 million" contract last offseason and predictably bombed; he wasn't any good in San Francisco, either. Best suited as a versatile reserve, Snyder took home a $5 million signing bonus and Arizona now takes a sizable cap hit to release him. The Cardinals will move forward with Jonathan Cooper and Daryn Colledge at guard. Lyle Sendlein is the center.

Mike Jurecki of XTRA Phoenix suspects Cardinals RG Adam Snyder could be "the odd man out" if the team drafts a guard at No. 7 overall.

Solidifying the offensive line is key for Arizona following the acquisition of Carson Palmer. The Cardinals would probably prefer Lane Johnson or Eric Fisher with the seventh pick, but Alabama's Chance Warmack would certainly upgrade their front five if all three elite left tackles are gone by No. 7. Snyder is owed a $2.9 million base salary. He performed poorly in 2012 as both a run and pass blocker.

Cardinals RG Adam Snyder (quadriceps) has been ruled out for Week 9 versus the Packers.

Snyder missed last week's game against the 49ers, too. Rich Ohrnberger started in his place and gave up three quarterback hurries, according to Pro Football Focus. Snyder has been a colossal disappointment this year after signing a five-year contract in the offseason. Arizona has a Week 10 bye, so he could return after then.

Cardinals RG Adam Snyder (quadriceps, questionable) is not expected to play in Week 8.

Arizona beat writer Kent Somers says it would be a "surprise" if Snyder played on Monday night against the 49ers. Snyder has graded out as Pro Football Focus' worst guard in the NFL this season, so his loss shouldn't be a huge blow. Rich Ohrnberger or Pat McQuistan would likely step into the starting lineup.

Cardinals signed G/T Adam Snyder, formerly of the 49ers, to a five-year contract.

Snyder's best asset is his versatility, not his talent level. He's played every position on the offensive line in his career and could immediately compete for the starting right guard job in Arizona. Snyder can also be a backup at center and at tackle, where the Cardinals just released Levi Brown.

49ers RG Adam Snyder left Thursday's game in the second quarter with a left hamstring injury.

Trainers are working on his leg, and Snyder doesn't look happy about it. His replacement, Chilo Rachal, promptly allowed a sack and pushed Frank Gore into a chop-block penalty that negated a 75-yard touchdown to Ted Ginn. Snyder was in and out of the game before being ruled out for good in the third quarter.

49ers RG Adam Snyder left Sunday's game in the fourth quarter with a stinger injury.

Former starter Chilo Rachal has come on to replace Snyder. It's not a major downgrade.

Adam Snyder will start at right guard in Week 5 against the Bucs.

This is his second straight week starting over Chilo Rachal, and he profiles as a better pass blocker than run blocker. After a successful week in Philly the Niners coaching staff isn't looking to change things up.

Adam Snyder will start at right guard in Week 4 against the Eagles, sending Chilo Rachal to the bench.

Rachal is the better run blocker so this presents a slight downgrade for Kendall Hunter and Frank Gore, but we'd hesitate to use it as a tiebreaker in lineup decisions.

Adam Snyder has been running with the 49ers' starters at center.

The Niners are in dire straits at the center spot, so Snyder is playing a new position. Talks with free agent Olin Kreutz are not serious right now, making Snyder the favorite to start in Week 1. "He's displaying a noticeable level of leadership in the huddle. So far, so good," said coach Jim Harbaugh.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee is giving T/G Adam Snyder the 49ers' award for "Biggest Offseason Bodily Transformation" after Snyder reported to player-organized workouts in tip-top shape.

Snyder, listed at 325, revealed that he's down below 300 pounds for the first time since high school. Barrows describes Snyder as now having "a beach body." Snyder was best as a pass protector last season, but this could also help his below-average run blocking if he's able to get downfield with more efficiency. Snyder is tentatively expected to be a "swing" reserve in 2011.

49ers RG Adam Snyder was knocked out of Sunday's game in the second half with a shoulder injury.

He tried to gut it out for a few plays but has been ruled out for the game. Chilo Rachal has replaced him at right guard and isn't really a downgrade.

49ers T/G Adam Snyder gave up more sacks than any of the team's offensive linemen in 2009, allowing nine in 16 starts.

Guards David Baas and Chilo Rachal tied for the second most with four. Snyder spent most of his time last year at right tackle, which will be a priority for San Francisco to upgrade this offseason. The Niners are commonly linked to Oklahoma OT Trent Williams in mock drafts at No. 13 or 17 overall.

Beat writer Matt Maiocco expects the 49ers to target an offensive tackle with one of their two first round picks.

A struggling Adam Snyder was overtaken by Tony Pashos half-way through the season, only to have Pashos go down with a season-ending shoulder injury. Iowa's Brian Bulaga, Oklahoma's Trent Williams, and Oklahoma State's Russell Okung could be options.
