Cowboys signed LB Brady Poppinga.
Poppinga has been out of the league since appearing in 15 games for the Rams last season. The veteran has 56 starts under his belt, but also hasn't shown he's over a 2010 ACL tear. Poppinga will be depth for the Cowboys after they placed Bruce Carter (elbow) on injured reserve Monday. Mon, Nov 26, 2012 11:08:00 AM

Free agent LB Brady Poppinga calls Rams DC Gregg Williams' actions in the Saints' bounty program "degrading," "animalistic," and "repulsive."

"Football is my profession and I take it seriously. It's an art form. It's technical, strategic and takes a lot of intelligence to play," said Poppinga. "When this came out, it started to confirm the idea that football guys are idiots. That's not who we are. ... It's a huge problem in society not knowing how to compete with the right perspective." The comments could hurt Poppinga's chances of re-signing with the Rams.

Rams agreed to terms with LB Brady Poppinga, formerly of the Packers.

The 32-year-old Poppinga will a Sam linebacker consideration for St. Louis, likely playing behind either Na'il Diggs or Zac Diles while focusing on special teams. Poppinga tore his ACL last October, but should be healthy by now.

The Rams will host free agent LB Brady Poppinga on Sunday.

Poppinga, a former defensive end at BYU, was a Sam (strong-side) linebacker the last time he played in a 4-3 scheme. He turns 32 in September and is coming off a torn left ACL, so Poppinga should be available for the veteran's minimum.

Packers released LB Brady Poppinga.

Poppinga, coming off an ACL tear, was due $2.34 million. The Packers just can't afford that for a 32-year-old backup linebacker. He's also a better fit in a 4-3 scheme than the Packers' current 3-4.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel disclosed that OLB Brady Poppinga's season-ending knee injury was a torn left ACL.

It was first announced as an arthroscopic procedure last October. If the Journal-Sentinel is correct, Poppinga could end up as a cap casualty with a $2.35 million salary as a backup returning from a serious injury. Other candidates for release: RT Mark Tauscher, DL Justin Harrell, and LB Brandon Chillar.

Packers placed OLB Brady Poppinga (knee surgery) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Poppinga's surgery was arthroscopic in nature, but the Packers couldn't afford to hold his roster spot with the bevy of injuries at the position. Poppinga has two years remaining on a five-year, $16.84 million deal. The Packers may balk at paying more than $2 million for a backup next season.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said OLB Brady Poppinga's recent knee surgery will be season-ending.

Poppinga had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last Tuesday. The reserve linebacker ends the season with 14 tackles and one sack.

Packers OLB Brady Poppinga (knee surgery) could wind up on injured reserve.

Poppinga had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday, and the Packers said they'd figured out after the procedure how long it would keep the linebacker out. Evidently it's pretty bad. Poppinga has been NFL sack leader Clay Matthews' backup. Luckily Matthews (hamstring) will be back this week.

Packers OLB Brady Poppinga will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday.

It's the same knee that Poppinga tore his ACL in back in 2005. The Packers will establish a timeframe after the surgery, but Clay Matthews is expected back in the meantime anyway.

Packers OLB Brady Poppinga was forced out of Sunday's loss to the Dolphins in the first half because something "didn't feel right" in his surgically repaired left knee.

Poppinga had ACL surgery on his left knee at the end of the 2005 season. With Clay Matthews (hamstring) already sidelined, the Packers are getting thin at outside linebacker. No team has been hit harder by injuries this season.
Mon, Oct 18, 2010 11:06:00 AM

Packers OLB Brady Poppinga left Sunday's game with a knee injury.

Poppinga was starting for an injured Clay Matthews. The Packers were already struggling to get heat on Chad Henne, and Poppinga is questionable to return.
Sun, Oct 17, 2010 02:24:00 PM

Brady Poppinga got the first-team reps at left outside linebacker ahead of Brad Jones on Wednesday.

It's a big surprise considering the Packers have talked up Jones after he started eight games as a rookie. The team is apparently fine with a competition between Poppinga and Jones, because they haven't addressed the position at all this offseason. It could end up as their primary defensive weak point.

As expected, Brady Poppinga started at right outside linebacker in Green Bay's opener, but was replaced by Clay Matthews on nickel downs.

It's a nice rotation because Poppinga is better against the run and versed in the defense, while Matthews is a more explosive blitzer. Green Bay also used a three-man rotation of AJ Hawk, Nick Barnett, and Brandon Chillar inside.

Brady Poppinga has won the Packers' starting job at right outside linebacker.

It's a bit of a surprise as Poppinga was expected to be in danger of being cut coming into the offseason. Rookie Clay Matthews will also see time at the spot as his hamstring is finally healed.
