Lions released CB Eric King.
The move takes Detroit off the hook for his $640K salary. King, 29 in May, was a late-season signee after injuries hit the Lions' secondary down the stretch. He's a mostly ineffective slot corner with some special teams value. Thu, Feb 10, 2011 11:49:00 AM

Lions claimed CB Eric King off waivers from the Browns.

King was one of the Lions' final cuts during preseason. He played sparingly with the Browns and is unlikely to have a bigger role in Detroit, but he's a good special teams player.

The NFL revealed that Lions CB Eric King was suspended for Week 17 for an "alcohol-related violation of law."

King was already on injured reserve, so he was going to miss the game anyway. However, he forfeited a game check of $142,857. King lasted only five weeks in '09, finishing with seven tackles as Detroit's oft-burned nickel back.

Lions placed CB Eric King (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.

King came over with coach Jim Schwartz from Tennessee this offseason hoping to prove he could be more than a special teamer. But the 27-year-old was a liability in coverage and made no big plays. He is signed through 2010.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz revealed Monday that the shoulder injury CB Eric King suffered in Week 5 was "significant."

Backup safety/special teamer Kalvin Pearson will move into the nickel back role indefinitely. King was not playing well, so his loss won't change the Lions' fortunes in the secondary. They'll be burned by the pass all year.

Lions signed CB Eric King to a two-year contract.

Teams coming off 0-16 seasons don't get to make big splashes in free agency, so the Lions will take what they can get. King's season has ended early two years in a row due to a broken forearm, but he has done a nice job as the Titans' dime back when healthy. His relationship with coach Jim Schwartz will help him nail down nickel back duties.

Titans placed CB Eric King (broken forearm) on injured reserve, ending his season.

King has had two seasons in a row end early due to the same injury. He had been used in dime situations mostly, but is a valuable player and Tennessee will likely look to bring him back. King is eligible for free agency in 2009.
