Former Cowboys S Gerald Sensabaugh has retired from football.
Sensabaugh signed a one-day contract with the Cowboys, and he'll be placed on the reserve/retired list on Friday. The soon-to-be 30-year-old spent the last four seasons with the Cowboys after being a fifth-round pick of the Jaguars in 2005. Sensabaugh amassed 411 tackles, two sacks, and 14 interceptions across eight seasons. The Cowboys released him earlier in the offseason, and Sensabaugh drew a bit of interest from the Cardinals and Titans. Pro Football Focus graded him out as its No. 73 overall safety in 2012. Free agent S Gerald Sensabaugh visited the Cardinals on Monday.

No deal has been announced, and Sensabaugh has more visits lined up. Arizona may not be a fit after re-signing Rashad Johnson to a three-year deal. We'd expect the Saints to show some interest in Sensabaugh with Rob Ryan now in New Orleans.

Cowboys released S Gerald Sensabaugh.

It's the latest ramification of Dallas' failure to reduce Tony Romo's $16.8 million cap number. Sensabaugh struggled in 2012, but the move creates another hole for a defense currently projected to have a boatload of them. The move also frees up only $1.4 million in cap space, though it does provide $3 million in cash savings. Going on 30, Sensabaugh may be limited to one-year offers in free agency.
Mon, Mar 4, 2013 12:54:00 PM considers S Gerald Sensabaugh a candidate for release.

It's the first time we've seen Sensabaugh's name come up in Cowboys cap talks, but no one is safe as Jerry Jones works to get a team that's more than $20 million over the cap in compliance. Releasing Sensabaugh would free up just $1.4 million versus the cap, but provide the Cowboys $3 million in cash if he's cut before the start of the new league year. Sensabaugh did not play at a high level in 2012, but cutting him would create yet another hole for a team primed to have lots of them.

Cowboys declared FS Gerald Sensabaugh, NT Jay Ratliff, C Phil Costa, S Matt Johnson, LB Alex Albright, DL Kenyon Coleman and WR Cole Beasley inactive for Week 3 versus the Bucs.

Special teamer Danny McCray will start for Sensabaugh opposite Barry Church. Josh Brent and the underrated Sean Lissemore will continue to fill in for Ratliff.

Cowboys FS Gerald Sensabaugh (calf) is listed as doubtful for Week 3 against the Bucs.

Sensabaugh felt the calf "pop a little bit" in last week's loss to the Seahawks. His safety running mate, Barry Church, is listed as probable with a quad issue. Danny McCray would draw the start in the likely event that Sensabaugh misses.

Cowboys FS Gerald Sensabaugh may miss "a couple of weeks" with a right calf strain.

After Sensabaugh's calf "popped a little bit" in Sunday's loss to Seattle, he underwent a Monday MRI and is uncertain to play in Week 3. SS Barry Church is also dealing with a quadriceps bruise and questionable to play against the Bucs. The Cowboys may have to turn to Danny McCray and Mana Silva at safety.

Cowboys FS Gerald Sensabaugh missed Monday's practice with "concussion-like symptoms."

In other words, he's concussed. Sensabaugh suffered the injury in last Wednesday's win over the Giants. Dallas' free safety will likely be questionable for Sunday's tilt with the Seahawks.

Cowboys FS Gerald Sensabaugh (knee scope) passed his conditioning test at training camp Friday.

Sensabaugh admits the knee isn't quite 100 percent yet after mid-July surgery, but he should be at full strength well before Week 1. Sensabaugh managed 75 tackles, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions in 16 starts last year.

Cowboys FS Gerald Sensabaugh (knee) is in danger of missing the beginning of training camp after recently undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

Sensabaugh missed minicamp and part of OTAs as a precaution, but the soreness wouldn't subside. Although the club has confirmed it to be a minor "cleanup" procedure, he still might have to take it easy during camp. As a returning starter armed with a new five-year contract extension, Sensabaugh doesn't need a ton of practice reps to get ready for the season. Barry Church and rookie Matt Johnson are candidates to fill in.

Cowboys agreed to terms with FS Gerald Sensabaugh on a five-year, $22.5 million contract extension.

Sensabaugh, 28, played this season on a one-year, $2.5 million contract. He has started all 12 games, racking up a pair of interceptions and two forced fumbles to go with 60 tackles (50 solo). Sensabaugh is unlikely to last through the end of the deal, so it's probably a bit back loaded. Pro Football Focus has graded Sensabaugh as a top-ten safety in the league this season, performing effectively in both coverage and run support.

Cowboys FS Gerald Sensabaugh said his sprained foot hurt the entire game against the Dolphins on Thursday.

"It's on the back on the ball of my foot," Sensabaugh said. "Any time I tried to put pressure on it, it hurt." The good news is that Sensabaugh now has 10 days to rest and recuperate after gutting it out in the Week 12 victory.

Cowboys S Gerald Sensabaugh (foot) is active for Thursday's game against the Dolphins.

Sensabaugh continues to live up to his reputation of playing through minor injuries. CB Mike Jenkins (hamstring) and WR Miles Austin (hamstring) are both inactive, as expected. The rest of the Cowboys inactives: QB Jon Kitna, FB Tony Fiammetta, G Daniel Loper, D David Arkin and DE Clifton Geathers.

Cowboys SS Gerald Sensabaugh was seen walking through the team's facility on Monday with a walking boot on his right foot.

"Gerald has a history of playing being able to play through some different injuries, so hopefully he can do that again," said coach Jason Garrett, and Sensabaugh said he plans on playing in Thursday's game against Miami. Barry Church would step in if Sensabaugh cannot go.
