Free agent G/T Frank Omiyale will visit the Panthers on Saturday.
An eight-year veteran, Omiyale appeared in all 16 games for the Seahawks last season, starting one. He's capable of playing any spot on the line but center. The Panthers are only truly set at left tackle, but Omiyale would just be a depth signing. Fri, Mar 15, 2013 11:20:00 PM

Seahawks signed OL Frank Omiyale, formerly of the Bears.

The 29-year-old Omiyale will reunite with OL coach Tom Cable, who had him as a rookie in Atlanta during the mid-2000s. Omiyale offers versatility with the ability to play four positions on the line -- all but center. He adds competition for James Carpenter at right guard and Breno Giacomini at right tackle.

The Seahawks are scheduled to host free agent OL Frank Omiyale on Monday.

Omiyale knows Seahawks offensive line coach Tom Cable from their time together in Atlanta, early in Omiyale's career. Versatile but largely ineffective, the 29-year-old should be willing to play for a veteran's minimum salary.

Bears released OL Frank Omiyale.

The 29-year-old was owed $2.1 million while counting $2.8 million against the cap. After shuffling between guard and tackle his first two years in Chicago, Omiyale started at right tackle early in 2011. One of the least effective pass protectors in the league, Omiyale lost his job by mid-season. At very best, he's ticketed for a backup/swing role on his next team.

The Chicago Tribune predicts that LT Frank Omiyale will be benched in 2011.

The theory has J'Marcus Webb moving to left tackle with Chris Williams on the right. The Tribune's Dan Pompei admits it's "premature" to act like anything is set in stone, and this goes directly against an NFL scout who late in the season said Omiyale is in the "top half or top third" of left tackles in the league. Pro Football Focus, though, rated him 75th among tackles in 2010.

One veteran NFL scout specializing in offensive linemen believes Frank Omiyale has emerged as one of the "top half or top third" left tackles in the NFL this season.

Much of the credit for the Bears' improved offensive line play goes to coach Mike Tice, who has worked wonders with Omiyale and mammoth rookie RT J'Marcus Webb. For what it's worth, Omiyale is still ranked as the second-worst left tackle in the league by Pro Football Focus.

If Bears LT Frank Omiyale plays 90 percent of his snaps at tackle this season, his salary for 2011 gets a $500,000 bump.

He's scheduled to make $1.6 million next year, but it's looking like that number will rise to $2.1 million. The Bears have elected to keep Omiyale at left tackle and move former LT Chris Williams to LG.

The Bears have settled on Frank Omiyale as their starting right tackle.

From left to right, the starting five has been decided and looks like this: LT Chris Williams, LG Roberto Garza, C Olin Kruetz, RG Lance Louis, Omiyale. In terms of athleticism at least, the unit is an upgrade over last year's.

GM Jerry Angelo conceded that offensive line remains the Bears' "biggest question mark" this season.

Angelo ditched declining run blocker Orlando Pace in favor of converted guard Frank Omiyale, but there's no evidence of tangible improvement up front. A bounce back in the running game will have to come from the addition of Chester Taylor and Matt Forte's return to full health.

Frank Omiyale said he has no problem at all switching from guard to right tackle.

"I always wanted to be a tackle," Omiyale said. "I have a good coach (Mike Tice) who is going to get me right. I'm excited." The Bears took OT J'Marcus Webb in the seventh round on Saturday, but he's a project. Omiyale will just have to hold off Kevin Shaffer to win the job, which shouldn't be a problem.

Offensive coordinator Mike Martz confirmed that OG Frank Omiyale will move to right tackle.

The Bears don't have an early-round pick to address the position, and Omiyale has experience at tackle from his time in Carolina. The Bears have done little to upgrade the line, but discarding Orlando Pace should at least help the ground game.
Tue, Apr 20, 2010 01:12:00 PM

Though it's not a done deal, coach Lovie Smith continued to suggest that OG Frank Omiyale will move to right tackle.

Omiyale has experience at tackle, and the Bears are unlikely to find a viable starting option in the draft without an early-round pick. Josh Beekman would then regain the starting job at left guard, which should help the running game.
Thu, Mar 25, 2010 08:46:00 AM

Bears OG Frank Omiyale is a candidate for the team's starting right tackle job in 2010.

The only other options are a mediocre Kevin Shaffer and a washed up Orlando Pace, so it's worth considering. Omiyale has experience at tackle with the Panthers, and he's not on Josh Beekman's level as a run-blocking left guard.
Thu, Feb 11, 2010 12:12:00 PM

Frank Omiyale replaced Josh Beekman as the Bears' starting left guard Sunday.

The Bears continue to shuffle at this spot. Beekman replaced Omiyale back on Oct. 28. The Bears offensive line -- including the $14 million man Omiyala -- has been a disappointment this season.
Sun, Nov 29, 2009 05:07:00 PM

Bears LG Frank Omiyale has been removed from the starting lineup in favor of Josh Beekman.

This is probably how Chicago should've started the season, but it was hard for GM Jerry Angelo to admit his $14 million mistake on Omiyale. Beekman is a better run blocker and should help create holes for Matt Forte. Omiyale can play four positions on the line and is best suited as a versatile sub.
