Updating a previous item, the Titans did not sign free agent DE Michael Montgomery on Tuesday.
The team backed out at the last minute over concern with Montgomery's knees. The 28-year-old had knee problems during the 2006 and 2007 seasons, before spending most of last year out of football. He'll return to the open market. Tue, Aug 9, 2011 08:39:00 PM

Titans signed DE Michael Montgomery.

The 2005 sixth-rounder has seen time with the Vikings and Packers over the past five years. He played just two games as an injury fill-in with Green Bay last season. Montgomery isn't a good bet to make the roster in Tennessee.

Packers waived DE Michael Montgomery.

Montgomery was brought back a couple of weeks ago as injury insurance. The Packers have added NT Howard Green and DE Jarius Wynn since then. This move clears roster space for Al Harris or Atari Bigby to be activated from PUP.

Packers signed DE Michael Montgomery.

Montgomery was never a good fit in Green Bay's 3-4 scheme, but they're desperate for a warm body and he knows the defense.

Vikings waived DE Michael Montgomery.

The Vikings got all the information they could out of the former Packer and have now kicked him to the curb. He'll look for another 4-3 team willing to take a shot.

Vikings signed DL Michael Montgomery to a one-year contract.

A misfit in Green Bay's 3-4 last year, Montgomery returns to the friendly confines of a 4-3 alignment in Minnesota. He says he hopes to play left end for the Vikes, but at 6'5/285 is more likely to earn playing time on the interior. If Montgomery does see action outside, he'll back up LE Ray Edwards.

The Vikings will host free agent DL Michael Montgomery on Monday.

Montgomery, 26, can play three positions along the defensive line, but has just five career sacks in five seasons. He'd likely battle Letroy Guion, Jayme Mitchell, and Fred Evans for snaps off the bench if he made the team.
Sun, Mar 28, 2010 11:29:00 PM

Packers released DE Michael Montgomery.

Montgomery, 26, couldn't get on the field in the first year of Green Bay's 3-4 defense, even falling behind sixth-round rookie Jairus Wynn on the depth chart. Also injury prone, Montgomery will find slim pickings in free agency.

Packers DE Michael Montgomery is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Cardinals because of a sprained ankle.

Montgomery is a seldom-used backup and has three tackles on the season.
Tue, Dec 29, 2009 10:14:00 AM

Packers re-signed DE Michael Montgomery to a two-year contract.

Montgomery, a sixth-round pick in 2005, is still only 25 but has just five sacks in 48 career games. The Pack will likely have him add weight to play end in their new 3-4 defense. He'll back up Johnny Jolly and Cullen Jenkins.
Tue, Mar 17, 2009 06:46:00 PM

The Packers have extended free agent DE Michael Montgomery a contract offer.

Montgomery, a Texas A&M alum, visited the Texans Monday and is weighing their proposal against Green Bay's. He'd fit better in Houston's 4-3 defense.
Wed, Mar 11, 2009 12:25:00 AM

The Falcons canceled free agent DE Michael Montgomery's visit after re-signing Chauncey Davis.

The Packers don't want him back either, so Montgomery will look for a 4-3 team with a need at defensive end.
Tue, Mar 3, 2009 12:11:00 PM

Free agent DE Michael Montgomery is scheduled to meet the Falcons on Tuesday.

The Packers have no interest in keeping Montgomery because he wouldn't fit at end or outside linebacker in their defense. He'd be a backup in Atlanta.
Mon, Mar 2, 2009 08:03:00 PM

The Packers are not expected to re-sign free agent DLs Mike Montgomery and Colin Cole.

Neither are considered good fits for Dom Capers' 3-4 scheme. Montgomery is too small to play end at 273 pounds and Cole isn't considered stout enough for the 3-4 nose tackle job.

Packers RE Michael Montgomery had a game-high 10 tackles and a sack in Week 9 against the Titans.

GM Ted Thompson was impressed by Montgomery's performance: "He just has a knack. He knows how to play the game." Montgomery was getting a majority of the reps by the second half and may have jumped back ahead of Jeremy Thompson on the team's depth chart.
