Jaguars signed S C.C. Brown.
Brown has predictably garnered no interest on the open market since the Lions let him walk in free agency. He has been one of the worst safeties in the league in terms of pass defense over the last couple years. The Jags' secondary is in desperate straits. Tue, Dec 20, 2011 12:20:00 PM

Impending free agent S C.C. Brown is unlikely to return to Detroit, according to beat writer Dave Birkett.

The Lions have good young talent at safety in Louis Delmas and converted corner Amari Spievey. Brown is a consistent liability in pass defense.

Lions SS C.C. Brown is expected to regain his starting spot in Week 12.

Brown replaced a struggling Amari Spievey in Week 11 and "played well," according to coach Jim Schwartz. The coach added that Spievey will still see some snaps and the team might "divide the packages up a little and have role for both." It's a situation IDP owners should avoid.

Lions declared SS C.C. Brown (knee) inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets.

Rookie Amari Spievey gets the start and won't be a major downgrade in coverage. Look for a run-heavy attack out of the Jets. Other Lions inactives: QB Shaun Hill (3rd QB), RB Aaron Brown, T Jason Fox, C Cody Wallace, DE Willie Young, DE Lawrence Jackson and LB Isaiah Ekejiuba.

Lions SS C.C. Brown (knee) did not practice Friday and is expected to miss the team's Week 9 game against the jets.

Rookie Amari Spievey will draw the start in Brown's place.

Lions SS C.C. Brown (knee) said his status for Week 9 is "up in the air."

It had appeared Brown's knee injury could be serious, so just the fact that he could possibly play this weekend is good news. If he's not ready to go, rookie Amari Spievey will start in his place.

C.C. Brown's knee injury appears to be fairly serious.

The Lions refused to discuss the injury following the game, but there seems to be a possibility of ligament damange. Rookie Amari Spievey will take over at strong safety if Brown misses time.

Lions S C.C. Brown left Sunday's game with a right knee injury.

Brown had to be helped to the sideline after staying down for a couple of minutes. It appears to be a knee sprain, though the severity it unclear. Rookie Amari Spievey has come on to replace him.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz said SS C.C. Brown (forearm) will be ready for Week 1.

Schwartz thinks Brown could even be ready to play in Thursday's preseason finale. That's great and all, but he's not a factor in fantasy when on the field.

Updating a previous item, Lions SS C.C. Brown has a forearm injury.

Brown was injured on Wednesday and was spotted with a cast on his right hand Thursday. No word yet on the severity, but it appears Brown may be forced to finish out the preseason with a club. It's not like he's ever around the ball to make an interception anyway.

C.C. Brown missed practice on Thursday morning and appeared to have his right hand in a cast.

We'll be hoping for an update from secretive coach Jim Schwartz after practice is over. Brown, who was perhaps the worst cover safety in the league last year with the Giants, is the Lions' starting strong safety. Rookie Randy Phillips stepped in with the first team.

C.C. Brown "appears to have the inside track" on the Lions' strong safety job.

Brown certainly won't help what has been the league's most porous pass defense over the past two seasons, but he should be an upgrade in run support. While he'll likely be lifted in nickel and dime packages, Detroit's defense is still going to be one of the best matchups for fantasy passing attacks.

Lions signed S C.C. Brown, formerly of the Giants.

Continuing to opt for quantity over quality, the Lions now have seven safeties on their offseason roster. Brown, 27, is a solid run defender, but may have been the worst safety in the league last year when it came to covering tight ends and receivers. The Lions will be in trouble if he wins a starting job.

Free agent safety C.C. Brown is expected to sign with the Lions after visiting on Monday.

Coach Jim Schwartz must not have liked what he saw from Marquand Manuel, Marvin White and Daniel Bullocks earlier this week. The Lions have the worst strong safety situation in the league; unfortunately, Brown isn't necessarily an upgrade. He was abused in coverage with the Giants last season.

Free agent safety C.C. Brown visited with the Bengals on Tuesday.

The Bengals are in the market for a veteran safety, though Ken Hamlin (visiting Wednesday) would be a much better pickup. Brown was one of the worst coverage safeties in the league last season.
