Vikings released P Chris Kluwe.

Kluwe broke the news on his Twitter account. Kluwe's off-the-field activism will be blamed for his release, but he simply wasn't worth his $1.4 million salary after coming in 17th in net-punting average (39.7 yards) last season. The Vikings are moving forward with No. 155 pick Jeff Locke at punter. Kluwe should eventually find another NFL gig.

ESPN 1500 Twin Cities thinks Vikings P Chris Kluwe may not even make it to camp with the team.

The Vikings drafted P Jeff Locke with the No. 155 overall pick, and teams don't take kickers or punters unless they plan for them to make the team. Kluwe is due $1.45 million in the final year of his contract, but he won't see that.

Vikings P Chris Kluwe will undergo surgery to repair a torn left meniscus on January 31.

Kluwe is due $1.4 million in 2013 after finishing 25th in Pro Football Focus' punter ratings. Although he incurred the coaching staff's wrath for distractions caused by bloviating his outspoken opinions on seemingly every political, cultural, and sports debate in America, Kluwe should be back with the Vikings for another season.

Vikings P Chris Kluwe deemed the TCF Bank Stadium field "unplayable" after participating in Sunday's walkthrough practice.

"Serious time," said Kluwe. "All respect to the people that cleared the field ... you did an amazing job. That being said, it's unplayable. The field is as hard as concrete an hour and a half after they took the tarp off, and anyone that hits their head is getting a concussion. I find it interesting that the NFL can claim an emphasis on player safety, and then tell us the field is fine. It's beyond hypocritical. I can only hope, however unlikely, that no one gets catastrophically injured at the trainwreck that's about to take place tomorrow night."

The Vikings auditioned four punters Wednesday to possibly replace current starter Chris Kluwe.

Coach Brad Childress claims he demanded Kluwe kick the ball out of bounds, or at least out of Reggie Bush's range on Monday night. "If he can't do that, I'll find someone that can," said Childress, totally throwing his player under the bus. It sounds like just a scare tactic, but Kluwe has been warned.

Vikings signed P Chris Kluwe to an $8.3 million contract extension through 2013.

The deal includes $1.7 million in guarantees and makes Kluwe one of the NFL's top ten highest paid punters. Kluwe currently ranks 14th in the NFL in gross punting, but leads the league in punts downed inside the opponent's 20. He was to be a restricted FA after the season.

The injury shouldn't keep him out, but it could make catching long snaps that much more interesting.

Kluwe had surgery for a torn ACL surgery this offseason.

The Vikings are having him take it slow in his recovery from a torn ACL. He may not be ready until after training camp starts.

Vikings' P Chris Kluwe was told by doctors he'll be ready for training camp.

The rookie punter tore his ACL in week 13 but played through the injury the final four weeks. "They said I'll definitely be ready by camp, if not sooner," Kluwe said. "It was a pretty clean tear. I've already started the rehabilitation." He finished sixth in the NFL with a 44.1 gross punting average.

Vikings punter Chris Kluwe is out for week 14 after injuring his right knee against the Lions.

The rookie has been a pleasant surprise, a possible Pro Bowler to this point of the season. The team will bring in a few punters for tryouts Tuesday.
