Titans agreed to terms with SS George Wilson on a two-year, $4 million contract with $1 million more available in incentives.
Wilson's signing comes 11 days after he was released by the Bills. The eight-year veteran also visited the Lions, but was otherwise greeted by a soft market. 32-year-old Wilson's best days are behind him, but he remained an above-average run stopper in 2012, and held his own in coverage. Free agent SS George Wilson has visits with the Lions and Titans set up for this week.

Although Wilson turns 32 next month, it's not a surprise that he's garnering interest two days after getting released by the Bills. The seven-year veteran remains serviceable in coverage and an asset in the box. He'd certainly be an upgrade on the likes of Lions SS Amari Spievey or oft-benched Jordan Babineaux of the Titans. Per CBS' Jason La Canfora, more visits for Wilson could be coming.

Bills released SS George Wilson.

The move clears $2.9 million in base salary off the books, bringing Buffalo's total Monday savings to $6.4 million when combined with WLB Nick Barnett's release. Pro Football Focus graded Wilson as the No. 8 safety in the entire league in 2012, but the new Bills coaching staff obviously didn't regard him as highly. Wilson turns 32 this offseason. He can still cover and fills hard in run support, so he should have a good chance to land on his feet.

Bills SS George Wilson triggered an escalator in his deal, raising his 2013 salary from $2.45 million to $2.9 million.

Wilson recorded 104 tackles, finishing second on the team behind WLB Nick Barnett. 2012 was Wilson's first season that saw him start all 16 games. He and impending free agent FS Jairus Byrd were the strengths of the defense, excelling against the run and in pass coverage. Wilson enters the final year of his contract.

Bills SS George Wilson is now playing in a rotation with Da'Norris Searcy.

Wilson finished with five tackles in Sunday's loss to the Texans while Searcy had three. "I wasn't banged up at all," the captain said. "You have to talk to the coaching staff on the rotation." Wilson had 48 tackles in the first seven games of the year, but his IDP value is decimated as a part-time player.

Wilson's return should help some in run support, but not enough to save Buffalo's woeful all-around defense. The 30-year-old Wilson can be reinserted into IDP leagues, though. He has 79 tackles and four picks on the season.

"I'm getting less optimistic by the day," coach Chan Gailey said. Rookie Da'Norris Searcy has flashed as a fill-in, but Wilson is one of the premier run-support safeties in the NFL. His absence is another piece of good news for Chris Johnson.

Speaking about yesterday's developments in the NFL's labor war, Bills player rep George Wilson said, "nobody knows how this thing is going to play out."

"That’s what makes this situation so tough and so sensitive at the same time," he said. "This is why we have preached financial discipline so hard the past two years to the guys in the locker room because we have no clue how long this could drag on." He also says the players are prepared for the "worst-case scenario" of losing game paychecks. We can only hope it does not come to that.

Bills re-signed S George Wilson to a three-year, $7.05 million contract.

A highly effective 12-game starter in 2009, Wilson seemed to fall out of favor under the new Buffalo coaching staff last year, starting just two games. He still managed to pick off six passes over those two seasons, however, and may be in line for a starting job after the Bills missed out on Bob Sanders and O.J. Atogwe in free agency. SS Donte Whitner isn't coming back.

Bills S George Wilson replaced Jairus Byrd at free safety for the second half Sunday and played well, but coach Chan Gailey doesn't see it as a permanent move.

Wilson registered what was remarkably the Bills' first interception by a defensive back this season and returned it 56 yards. Byrd has picked off zero passes this year after reeling in nine interceptions in his rookie season, but he won't lose his starting job just yet. The Bills boast a deep group at safety.

George Wilson is considered the underdog in the competition for the Bills' starting strong safety job.

Wilson was excellent last season upon being pushed into the starting role, and he's the team's best option in run support and blitzing. Donte Whitner is considered the favorite entering camp, however, with Jairus Byrd expected to start at free safety. It's a deep group.

The 29-year-old converted wide receiver has emerged as one of the league's most underrated safeties. Wilson racked up a highly impressive 103 tackles last year to go with four picks and two sacks. He should be locked into the starting strong safety job in 2010, especially if Donte Whitner is traded.

Whitner got plenty of playing time because Jairus Byrd was held back by a nagging groin injury. The Bills secondary continues to play well, so Whitner may have a hard time regaining a starting job.

George Wilson and Jairus Byrd will be the Bills' starting safeties on Sunday in Miami.

Wilson will step into Bryan Scott's (ankle) spot at strong safety and Byrd will be in for free safety Donte Whitner (thumb surgery). This is a good situation for the Dolphins' Chad Henne to make his first start of the season, as the Bills will be missing four defensive starters in Scott, Whitner, Leodis McKelvin, and Paul Posluszny.
