Former Bears and Lions receiver Rashied Davis has retired from the NFL.
Davis, 33, brought value to his teams as a special teams player. He didn't play in 2012 after being released by the Bears in late August. Davis ends his seven-year career with 92 catches for 1,095 yards and five touchdowns. Mon, Jan 28, 2013 06:33:00 PM

Bears released WR Rashied Davis.

Davis was nicked up with an undisclosed injury heading into final cuts. His release means Dane Sanzenbacher is a good bet to make the 53-man roster.

Bears signed WR Rashied Davis to a one-year contract.

Thanks to Devin Thomas' surprising retirement, the Bears had a roster spot open for a wideout that plays special teams. Davis brings familiarity after spending the first six years of his career in Chicago. He caught just four balls in 11 games for the Lions last season.

Lions WR Rashied Davis resumed practicing Thursday for the first time since injuring his foot more than three weeks ago.

This is the first we've heard of the injury, which speaks to Davis' lack of an offensive role in Detroit. He'll be limited to special teams duties going forward.

Lions declared WR Rashied Davis, OT Jason Fox, S Erik Coleman, LB Justin Durant, SS Amari Spievey, RB Jerome Harrison, and QB Drew Stanton inactive for Monday Night Football against the Bears.

First-round pick Nick Fairley is active and will make his NFL debut after suffering a stress fracture in his foot during the preseason. Coach Jim Schwartz told ESPN that he anticipates Fairley playing "12 to 15 snaps" against the Bears. Davis, Fox, Coleman, Durant, and Spievey are all banged up.

Rashied Davis has moved ahead of Derrick Williams as the Lions' No. 3 receiver.

It doesn't say much for Williams that he's been passed by a special teamer. Matthew Stafford may have to lean more on his tight ends early in the season until rookie Titus Young (hamstring) gets up to speed.

Lions agreed to terms with WR Rashied Davis on a one-year contract.

Davis is primarily a special teamer and backup receiver at best. He'll likely enter the season as the Lions' No. 4 wideout.

Free agent WR Rashied Davis expects to re-sign with the Bears this summer.

Entering his age-32 season, Davis will not be in demand on the open market after notching just 14 catches while primarily playing on special teams the past two years. If the only team he's ever played for no longer wants him, his career could be over.

Free agent WR Rashied Davis is hoping to organize workouts for the Bears' receivers and quarterbacks in the coming weeks.

He appears to have Caleb Hanie, Johnny Knox, and Devin Hester on board. Entering his age-32 season, Davis' contributions should be limited almost exclusively to special teams. Being a leader this offseason might help his chances of staying on the Bears' roster, but Davis is not under contract for 2011.

Rashied Davis caught a nine-yard touchdown pass in Monday's Week 15 40-14 win over Minnesota.

It was Davis' second catch of the season and he made it count, getting behind Vikings LB E.J. Henderson and wrapping up a perfectly thrown Jay Cutler pass for the score. He's not worth owning in fantasy despite the touchdown.

Jay Cutler says that Rashied Davis has "had one of the best camps of anyone in the tight end and receiver area."

Davis struggled to get a grip on Mike Martz's offense in the spring, but is coming on now. He's running behind Johnny Knox at split end and also getting work in the slot. Davis' main role will be on special teams.

Rashied Davis is expected to compete for snaps as a slot receiver this season.

There was some speculation that Davis would get cut, but the Bears didn't draft a receiver and it doesn't look like they'll bring in a veteran. Once Davis fails to crack the Bears' receiving rotation, he'll become an expensive core special teamer. He won't be a factor on offense.

The Chicago Sun Times speculates that WR Rashied Davis could be cut.

Davis is $935,000 in 2010 and will count $1.35 million against the cap if there is one. That's likely too much for a guy that's primarily a special teamer.

Bears wide receiver/special teamer Rashied Davis is not expected to make the final 53-man roster.

Davis might be one of Chicago's best route runners, but is hardly getting any reps in camp and played sparingly in the Bears' preseason opener. Davis, 30, wouldn't necessarily find a new home quickly if he's released.
Mon, Aug 17, 2009 01:03:00 PM

Bears GM Jerry Angelo confirmed that Rashied Davis will move to the slot this season.

Davis was one of the league's least productive first-team receivers in 2008, amassing just 35 catches and two touchdowns in 12 starts. He's behind Earl Bennett on the depth chart now and won't be a fantasy factor this season.
