Vikings WLB Chad Greenway (ribs, hand) is expected to miss Week 5.

Greenway doesn't have enough time to get healthy on the short week. He remains week to week. Gerald Hodges will continue to fill in against the Packers.

Sep 28 - 3:07 PM

Vikings WLB Chad Greenway (ribs, hand) is not expected to play in Week 4.

He has fractures in both his ribs and hand. The Vikings will turn to Gerald Hodges at weak-side 'backer. Hodges stood out for excellent play in Week 3.
Sep 26 - 1:44 PM

Vikings WLB Chad Greenway is now dealing with a fractured rib in addition to a fractured hand.

Greenway has played solid run defense through three weeks, so it would be a blow to Minnesota's defense were he forced to miss time. The Vikings would presumably turn to sophomore Gerald Hodges at weak-side linebacker.
Sep 22 - 4:31 PM

Vikings WLB Chad Greenway (questionable, hand) is a game-time decision for Week 3.

Greenway suffered a broken hand against the Patriots last week, but was able get in a limited practice on Friday. The Vikings are hoping that he can play though the injury. Greenway should remain in an every-down role if active.
Sep 20 - 6:13 PM

Vikings WLB Chad Greenway broke his hand in Week 2 against the Patriots.

It apparently wasn't an issue, as he played all 67 defensive snaps. Coach Mike Zimmer said Greenway's wrist is fine, and he should be out there Week 3 against the Saints. Greenway will likely just cast up and play his normal reps.
Sep 17 - 12:50 PM

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune's Matt Vensel reports the Vikings are unlikely to use Chad Greenway at middle linebacker.

Vensel guesses Greenway could be a fall-back option in the middle, but he will stick to the weak side for now. Jasper Brinkley saw most of the first-team reps at MIKE on Wednesday and will compete with Audie Cole for the starting job.
Jul 30 - 7:13 PM

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer is open to moving Chad Greenway to middle linebacker.

Greenway played strong-side linebacker last season under Leslie Frazier. He practiced at weak side during OTAs, and is now under consideration at Mike. "It’s a possibility," Zimmer said. "We keep working him in there. We’re just trying to find the best 11 players we can and then figure out where the rest of the guys are going to fit." Greenway's IDP stock could rise in the middle.
Jul 23 - 9:52 PM

Chad Greenway confirmed he's moving to weak-side linebacker.

Greenway played "SAM" linebacker last year, but should get the majority of his snaps at the "WILL" spot this season. He's also seen time at middle linebacker during OTAs and could move inside in sub-packages. Greenway and Anthony Barr are locked in as starters in Mike Zimmer's defense, with Gerald Hodges, Audie Cole, and Jasper Brinkley competing for the final linebacker job.
May 31 - 6:24 PM

Vikings WLB Chad Greenway has agreed to reduce his base salary from $6.5 million to a fully guaranteed $5.5 million.

Greenway is coming off of a horrific season where he graded out 34th among 35 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus' 4-3 outside linebacker ratings. He has been solid throughout his career, though, and continues to offer a veteran presence for a defense in transition. Greenway 2015 salary remains the same, meaning the Vikings could save $7.1 million by cutting Greenway after 2014.
Mar 15 - 11:01 AM

Vikings WLB Chad Greenway is owed $6.5 million in salary and bonuses in 2014.

His base salary is $6.4 million with a $100,000 offseason workout bonus. Turning 31 later this month, Greenway is coming off of a horrific season where he graded out 34th among 35 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus' 4-3 outside linebacker ratings. Only Miami's Philip Wheeler was worse. We suspect the Vikings will keep Greenway for 2014, but it's hardly a guarantee. Minnesota may undergo a rebuilding process this spring after ranking 31st in total defense.
Jan 3 - 11:49 AM

The arthroscopic knee surgery Vikings SLB Chad Greenway underwent last week was on his left meniscus.

Greenway had some "residual fraying" of his meniscus. It may have been related to his 2006 ACL tear in the same knee. Regardless, he's in no danger of missing Week 1 and fully expects to be ready for the start of camp. "There will be no doubt in my mind unless I get in a car accident or something," said Greenway. "From the knee perspective, it'll be 100 percent, good to go."
