Texans agreed to terms with DL Damione Lewis on a one-year contract.

The Texans suddenly became thin at defensive end when they moved Mario Williams to outside linebacker, and they need as many warm bodies as they can get. A former first-round pick by the Rams, the now 33-year-old Lewis is running on fumes. He had 13 tackles and one sack in 10 appearances last season.

Texans signed DT Damione Lewis.

Lewis evidently had a better workout than Tank Tyler and Louis Leonard. The former Ram, Panther and Patriot will provide depth for the Texans.

Patriots released DL Damione Lewis.

The Pats were hurting for depth up front with Ty Warren (hip) out for the year, but Lewis was never a strong bet to stick. He had just a half-sack with Carolina last year and was transitioning from the one-gap defensive tackle position at age 32. Gerard Warren and Mike Wright are the favorites to start at defensive end this year.

Patriots agreed to terms with DL Damione Lewis, formerly of the Panthers.

Lewis, 32, has been a one-gap defensive tackle throughout his career and had a mere half-sack in 16 starts last year. In New England, he'll likely back up Ty Warren at right defensive end and play tackle when the Pats go 4-3.

Panthers released DT Damione Lewis.

The Panthers inserted a $9.3 million option bonus into Lewis' 2010 pay last offseason, so he likely knew this was coming. While Lewis isn't a difference maker, the team will likely try to re-sign him. Defensive line, just head of No. 2 receiver, is Carolina's weakest position on either side of the ball.

Panthers DT Damione Lewis has already resumed practicing after undergoing rotator cuff surgery in January.

Lewis, returning as a starter next to Maake Kemoeatu, is coming off his best season as a pro. However, he may lose some snaps this year to third-round pick Corvey Irvin. Both play the penetrating "three technique" tackle position.

Panthers signed DT Damione Lewis to a new contract through 2014.

The deal is very salary cap friendly and reduces Lewis' 2009 cap number to about $2.417 million. The deal included a $2M signing bonus. Carolina's top one-gapper up the middle, Lewis is recovering from rotator cuff surgery.

Panthers DT Damione Lewis will be out until training camp at the earliest after undergoing surgery on his torn rotator cuff Saturday.

It's been a rough off-season for the Carolina defense, with coaches leaving, Julius Peppers wanting out, and now this. Lewis, 31, played well as a starter in the first year of a new contract, but will have to show he's healthy in camp to justify his big salary next year.

Panthers starting DT Damione Lewis (shoulder) missed his second straight practice Thursday.

With Ma'aake Kemoeatu also hurt (his practice was limited), Carolina is very thin on the interior of their defensive line. Lewis was hurt late in Carolina's loss to New York; Kemoeatu missed that game. Darwin Walker seems likely to start Sunday. Carolina's defense has not played well in recent weeks.

Panthers DL Damione Lewis' three-year contract includes a base salary of $730,000 in the first season.

However, his salary skyrockets to $3.17 million in the second year and $4.05 million in the third. The bonus numbers aren't available yet, but it appears realistically to be a one-year trial. Lewis will likely have to win a starting position to last in Carolina beyond 2008.

Panthers re-signed DT Damione Lewis to a three-year contract.

The move maintains Carolina's interior line depth with Kris Jenkins' future continually up in the air. Lewis hasn't come close to the player he was expected to be when St. Louis drafted him No. 12 overall in 2001, but is a decent pass rusher. On a good team, Lewis isn't starting caliber.

The Panthers are hoping to bring back free agent DT Damione Lewis.

Their top reserve defensive tackle, Lewis tied for the team lead in sacks at 3.5 which says more about the Panthers' dormant pass rush than it does about Lewis' prospects on the free agent market.

Panthers defensive lineman Damione Lewis played through chronic shoulder pain last season.

He still managed a solid five sacks from the under tackle spot. Lewis underwent surgery in February to remove bone chips from the shoulder and will be limited in minicamps but 100 percent by training camp.

Panthers signed DT Damione Lewis to a two-year deal worth $6-8 million.

Carolina is loading up on defensive tackles, which makes us think Kris Jenkins may be cut. They now have Jenkins, Lewis, newly signed Maake Kemoeatu, Kindal Moorehead, and Jordan Carstens on the roster. At this point, Lewis is a reserve.
