49ers OLB Parys Haralson agreed to a pay cut, slashing his 2013 salary from $2.57 million to $1.3 million.
Haralson can earn another $400,000 through incentives. The 29-year-old missed the entire 2012 season with a torn triceps muscle, and he was squarely on the roster bubble with the inflated salary. Haralson has 21.5 career sacks. He'll back up Aldon Smith and Ahmad Brooks in 2013, and hit free agency after the season. Mar 18 - 10:01 PM

49ers OLB Parys Haralson (triceps surgery) is expected to be a full participant in offseason workouts.

After recording two sacks in 2011, Haralson missed the 2012 season when he tore his left triceps lifting weights in the preseason. Although his return could theoretically add pass-rushing depth to a 49ers roster that needs it, beat writer Matt Maiocco wonders if Haralson might be cut due to a $2.57 million salary.

49ers OLB Parys Haralson, who was placed on injured reserve September 3, has resumed lifting weights after tearing his left triceps in the preseason.

Coach Jim Harbaugh wouldn't describe the injury after it happened, but Haralson told CSN Bay Area the extent. He expects to return by OTAs or minicamp. Due a $2.57 million salary in 2013, however, Haralson may be an offseason cap casualty. Ahmad Brooks and Aldon Smith are locked in as starters ahead of him.

49ers placed OLB Parys Haralson on injured reserve, ending his season.

Coach Jim Harbaugh has declined to reveal the extent of this injury, but it's reportedly to Haralson's left arm or wrist. Haralson lost his starting job to Aldon Smith, but he was still expected to play a major role off the bench, allowing Smith to rush from defensive end in nickel packages. The 49ers signed Clark Haggans as insurance, although he may be facing a three-game suspension. Haralson turns 29 in January and is owed a $2.57 million base salary next year. He may have played his final snap with the 49ers.

49ers OLB Parys Haralson is expected to lose his starting job in 2012.

Haralson is a proficient edge-setting outside 'backer, but he's a mediocre pass rusher and the Niners want Aldon Smith on the field as an every-down player. Look for Haralson to play on running downs going forward, seening something like 30-40 percent of the snaps. Smith and Ahmad Brooks will be the starters.

49ers OLB Parys Haralson was forced from Sunday's game in the second half with a hamstring injury.

Haralson's day is likely done with just nine minutes left in the game. Impressive rookie pass rusher Aldon Smith will likely be a full-time player the rest of the way.

The 49ers are still starting Parys Haralson, but pulling him out on nickel downs in favor of first-round pick Aldon Smith.

Haralson still racked up four tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles against Seattle in Week 1, so he's making plenty of impact. Smith worked at right defensive end on nickel downs, but registered no statistics. If Smith can't generate more pressure, the Niners may have to rethink limiting Haralson.

49ers OLB Parys Haralson is likely to lose his starting job to rookie Aldon Smith before the season.

Haralson struggled against the run and his sack numbers dipped for a third straight year last season, but he's shown leadership by personally tutoring Smith on how to play outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. Haralson's $1.85 million base salary is manageable, so he figures to stick as the Niners' third outside linebacker. The starters will be Smith and Ahmad Brooks.

According to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, OLB Parys Haralson was the 49ers' most disappointing front-seven defender in 2010.

Haralson was one of the Niners' few front-seven members who struggled against the run, and his sack production dipped for a third straight season, finishing with four and none in the final seven weeks. Haralson will be back on his cheap, $1.85 million salary, but San Francisco is likely to make finding a dominant pass rusher a top priority in the 2011 NFL draft.

49ers declared third QB David Carr, OT Alex Boone, LT Joe Staley, LB Parys Haralson, LB Keaton Kristick, LB Thaddeus Gibson, CB William James, and K Joe Nedney inactive for Week 13.

No surprises here, as Haralson was the only 49er listed as questionable that won't be active. Shawntae Spencer and David Baas will both be active, as will Brian Westbrook.

49ers OLB Parys Haralson left Monday night's game with an ankle injury and will not return.

Travis LaBoy will see snaps in Haralson's absence.

49ers signed OLB Parys Haralson to a four-year, $15 million extension through 2013. The deal includes $6.5 million guaranteed.

Haralson, 25, has flashed starting-caliber ability in spot action and is coming off a career best eight-sack, 39-tackle season. The deal's annual average ($3.75M) is modest, however, and shouldn't alter San Francisco's draft plans much. The Niners could easily move Haralson to SAM outside 'backer, draft a weak-side rusher at No. 10, and make Manny Lawson a nickel player.

Employing a stricter 3-4 defense after Mike Nolan was fired, the 49ers used OLB Parys Haralson as a full-time starter down the stretch in 2008.

Haralson responded with 4.5 sacks in the last seven games. The club is too needy elsewhere to worry about bringing in competition for Haralson in 2009, so he'll be a sleeper to post double-digit sacks in his contract year.

49ers OLB Parys Haralson recorded four tackles (two solo) and 2.5 sacks in the team's Week 1 loss to Arizona.

San Francisco started in a 4-3, but Haralson played a lot at ROLB where he's supplanted Tully Banta-Cain. TBC was scratched for the opener. Haralson's stat line was probably fluky, but he's someone to watch in IDP leagues.

49ers beat reporter Matt Maiocco believes Parys Haralson has the edge over Tully Banta-Cain to be the team's starting ROLB this year.

This is the prime pass rushing position in Mike Nolan's 3-4. TBC showed up to minicamps in shape after weighing 280+ at this time last year, but he'll need to show more explosion. Neither player is an established sack artist yet.
