Mario Williams insists he's still the same player.
Williams' play fell off a cliff in 2015, as he notched just five sacks in 909 snaps. He blames Rex Ryan's scheme. Williams acknowledges he could be released, but says he'll be better than ever in 2016. "At the end of the day, if I'm not (in Buffalo), I'll show you that I'm better than what I've been before," Williams said. "Like, that's just a chip on my shoulder regardless of whether I am there or not, because given the opportunity I’ll get back to what I was." Williams turned 31 last month. Before 2015, he had notched at least 10.5 sacks in each of his three seasons in Buffalo. Not a scheme or personality fit with Ryan, Williams is guaranteed to be cut loose. The inevitable move will create $12.9 million in cap space. Feb 9 - 5:40 PM

An anonymous Bills teammate says LE Mario Williams has been giving "zero effort" this season.

Williams has four sacks in 852 snaps. "The tape speaks for itself," the teammate said. "He takes two steps and stops." The player claimed many of Williams' teammates have been "beyond furious" with his play. Whether it's a lack of effort, poor scheme fit or both, it's looking certain that Week 17 will be Williams' final game in a Bills uniform.

The Associated Press and NFL.com both report that the Bills plan to cut LE Mario Williams in the offseason.

WKBW Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia predicted the same thing two weeks ago. Williams hasn't been a fit for coach Rex Ryan's defense, and releasing him would create $12.9 million in cap space for 2016. Going on 31, Williams — who had 14.5 sacks just last year — also seems anxious to move on.

WKBW Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia believes Bills LE Mario Williams will not be back with the team next season.

Buffalo can save $12.9 million against the 2016 cap by cutting Williams, who is not a great fit in Rex Ryan's defense. It is a no-brainer move which Williams will welcome judging by his post-game comments Sunday. Williams will be 31 in January, but he is also just a season removed from a 14.5-sack campaign. He would find plenty of suitors on the open market.

Bills LE Mario Williams (foot) has been ruled out for Week 12 against the Chiefs.

Williams injured his foot last Monday night against the Patriots. He's having a bad season in coach Rex Ryan's scheme and isn't as big of a loss as his name would indicate. IK Enemkpali will likely fill in opposite Jerry Hughes.

Bills coach Rex Ryan said Thursday that it "doesn't look good" for LE Mario Williams (foot) to play in Week 12.

Williams is having a career-worst year, managing three sacks in ten games and defending the run poorly. He complained about Rex's scheme earlier in the season. The Bills' defense may actually get better with Mario on the shelf.

Bills DE Mario Williams expressed some frustration with the defensive scheme following the Week 6 loss to the Bengals.

Williams did not want to say he was unhappy with the scheme, but his comments told a different story. "We don't make the calls as players. We've got to go out and execute whatever's called by any means," Williams said. "I think I probably set a record on dropping today, but that's part of the scheme for us to go out and be put in a position to win." Williams has just two sacks through six games, and the Bills have recorded just nine sacks as a team including zero of Andy Dalton on Sunday.
