Bills coach Rex Ryan said Thursday that it "doesn't look good" for LE Mario Williams (foot) to play in Week 12.
Williams is having a career-worst year, managing three sacks in ten games and defending the run poorly. He complained about Rex's scheme earlier in the season. The Bills' defense may actually get better with Mario on the shelf. Nov 26 - 1:05 PM

Bills LE Mario Williams (foot) could miss Week 12.

Coach Rex Ryan said it's "too early to tell" Williams' status for Sunday's game against the Chiefs. Williams has only three sacks through 10 games this season.

Bills LE Mario Williams exited Week 11 against the Patriots with a foot injury.

Williams has had a rough transition into coach Rex Ryan's defense. He has just three sacks and is 52nd among 53 ranked 4-3 ends in PFF's pass-rush grades.

Bills LE Mario Williams was in and out of Thursday's win over the Jets with an illness.

Williams played vanishingly few snaps in the Bills' road victory. Williams will enter Week 11 with only three sacks through nine games. Williams hasn't been held below 10 QB takedowns in a healthy season since 2009.
Nov 13 - 12:40 AM

Bills DE Mario Williams expressed some frustration with the defensive scheme following the Week 6 loss to the Bengals.

Williams did not want to say he was unhappy with the scheme, but his comments told a different story. "We don't make the calls as players. We've got to go out and execute whatever's called by any means," Williams said. "I think I probably set a record on dropping today, but that's part of the scheme for us to go out and be put in a position to win." Williams has just two sacks through six games, and the Bills have recorded just nine sacks as a team including zero of Andy Dalton on Sunday.
Oct 18 - 11:27 PM

Bills LE Mario Williams participated in practice on the first day of training camp.

Williams technically opened camp on the active/PUP list due to a minor "back issue," but was out there when the Bills began practicing. The 30-year-old pass rusher will enter 2015 with 10-plus sacks in three straight seasons.
Jul 31 - 2:41 PM

Bills placed DE/OLB Mario Williams on the active/PUP list.

Williams' "injury" is undisclosed. The superstar pass rusher should be ready to go in a couple of days.
Jul 30 - 3:55 PM’s Chris Brown expects Mario Williams to get the majority of his snaps at defensive end.

The Bills ran mostly four-man fronts during their OTAs/minicamp. Williams should see limited time as a standup linebacker in Rex Ryan’s scheme, and will rarely drop in coverage. He'll also play some five-technique next to Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus. Buffalo plans to use Williams similar to how they did in 2013, when he posted 15 TFLs and 13 sacks under ex-DC Mike Pettine.
Jul 17 - 8:44 PM

The Bills are expected to approach OLB Mario Williams about restructuring his contract.

Williams has three years and over $55 million left on his deal. Buffalo wants to lower his cap number to free up money for Marcell Dareus' extension. The Bills have the third-lowest cap space for 2016, behind only Miami and New Orleans.
Jul 3 - 5:29 PM

Mario Williams will play outside linebacker in Rex Ryan's new 3-4 scheme.

Williams played left end under Jim Schwartz last season, but Rex disciple Mike Pettine used him at outside linebacker in 2013. Regardless of whether he lines up in a two- or three-point stance, Williams' role in Ryan's defense will be to rush the quarterback. Williams figures to align at outside linebacker on base downs, and rush from defensive end in sub-packages.
May 24 - 10:49 AM

Bills LE Mario Williams underwent offseason hip surgery, but is participating in Organized Team Activities.

It sounds like Williams needed some kind of scope. He started off on fire last season with 11 sacks in the first eight games, but posted just two after that. Perhaps this hip issue was to blame. Williams, still only 29, has missed just 14 games in his eight-year career -- and none since joining the Bills in 2012.

Bills OLB Mario Williams recorded just two sacks in the final eight games of the season.

Williams posted 13 sacks on the season, and got off to a very hot start with multi-sack days in three of the Bills' first seven games, including 4.5 against the Panthers in Week 2. He cooled significantly in the second half of the season, all but disappearing for stretches. We expect Williams to remain a boom-bust DL1 in IDP leagues for 2014.

Bills OLB Mario Williams registered two sacks in Sunday's Week 7 upset of the Dolphins, bringing his season total to ten.

Williams only has 19 tackles on the year -- which makes him an entirely boom-or-bust IDP -- but he's quickly soaring atop the NFL's sack list. Williams is now tied with Chiefs LOLB Justin Houston for the league lead. On Sunday, Williams almost single-handedly took over the game by relentlessly abusing Dolphins RT Tyson Clabo and getting to Ryan Tannehill.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Mario Williams has been diagnosed with a sprained ankle, but is currently planning to play in Week 4.

That is, "unless his ankle doesn't get better later this week." Speaking Monday, Bills coach Doug Marrone said Williams was "fine," but Marrone has brought new meaning to "coachspeak" since joining the NFL ranks. For now, Williams should be considered day to day, and questionable for Sunday's game against the Ravens.
Mon, Sep 23, 2013 03:48:00 PM

Bills coach Doug Marrone expects Mario Williams (undisclosed) and DT Marcell Dareus (ankle) to be "fine" for Week 4.

Marrone isn't always the most truthful with the media, but for now there's no reason to doubt him. Williams was spotted limping after departing Sunday's game in the fourth quarter, while Dareus was immediately ruled out for the rest of the afternoon upon going down. Buffalo badly needs both players for its Week 4 tilt with the Ravens.
