Seahawks agreed to terms with P Jon Ryan on a six-year, $9.1 million extension.

Canada's Regina Leader-Post broke the major punting news. Ryan, a former punter for the Regina Rams and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, averaged 46.2 yards per punt in 2009. He was due to hit free agency this offseason.

Ryan Plackemeier will be waived to make room. Ryan was cut loose by Green Bay in favor of Derrick Frost at the end of camp despite a solid 2007 season.

Packers signed free agent punter Ryan Dougherty as competition for Jon Ryan.

Dougherty was with the Packers last pre-season and matched Ryan's production before being waived in late August. Ryan had a horrific late season game at Soldier Field, but his 37.6 net average was the best by a Packer since 1969.

Ryan spent 2005 in the CFL and signed with the Packers in February. Sander has struggled since being taken in the third round during the Mike Sherman regime.
