Rams signed RB Jerious Norwood to a one-year contract.
The Rams were on the prowl for a scatback to play behind Steven Jackson, initially targeting Darren Sproles and Reggie Bush. Those moves didn't happen, so they'll settle for a 28-year-old coming off a torn right ACL who's likely willing to play for the league minimum. The brittle Norwood just isn't an option to play many snaps if S-Jax goes down. The Falcons' coaches never trusted him on passing downs, and Norwood hasn't been the same player since busting out of the gates for a 6.17 YPC average in his first two seasons. Free agent Jerious Norwood is visiting the Rams on Tuesday.

There were rumors on local St. Louis radio that Norwood dined in town Monday evening. He has connections to GM Billy Devaney from Atlanta, and would probably be available for the sixth-year minimum. The Rams shouldn't be done adding to their backfield after signing Norwood, who's coming off a torn ACL.

Free agent Jerious Norwood is reportedly among the running backs on the Rams' "radar."

The Rams are taking a bargain-basement approach to backup running backs. Norwood is coming off a torn right ACL and was let go without a fight by the well-run Falcons. He was drafted when Rams GM Billy Devaney was in the Atlanta front office, however, and would add competition at an awfully thin position.

The Falcons confirmed they will not be bringing back free agent RB Jerious Norwood.

The Falcons had no interest in retaining Norwood even though Jason Snelling is a free agent. His inability to stay healthy has put him on the back burner during free agency and the change-of-pace back can likely be had on the cheap.

The player rep for free agent Jerious Norwood acknowledges the Falcons are "going in a different direction."

"Somebody is going to pick him up," insists the agent. "He's a great player. ... He's ready to play. Somebody is going to get him real quick." The brittle change-of-pace back tore his right ACL less than 10 months ago. We'd be surprised if he lands a guaranteed contract.

Free agent Jerious Norwood insists he's fully healthy after surgery to repair a torn right ACL last September.

"I'll be ready to roll this football season," Norwood said. "(Rehab) is pretty much over with." Norwood's agent has been contacted by "a handful of teams," all of them concerned about his health. Norwood was considered an injury risk even before the ACL tear. The market for his services will be softer than he expects.

ESPN NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas confirms that free agent Jerious Norwood's time in Atlanta "looks to be over."

Norwood had been left off reports of players with 4-5 years experience tendered as restricted free agents, leading us to assume the Falcons failed to offer one. The brittle change-of-pace back will hit the open market, but will likely have to settle for a one-year deal coming off ACL surgery.

Coach Mike Smith was noncommittal when asked about the future of free agent RB Jerious Norwood.

Norwood is still rehabbing a September ACL tear. His free agency is expected to be unrestricted, and the Falcons appear to be ready to move on. The team will place a much higher priority on re-signing Jason Snelling as Michael Turner's change-of-pace back.

Falcons RB Jerious Norwood is out for the season with a torn right ACL.

He will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Norwood is safe to drop in all leagues including deep Dynasty formats. He will enter the 2011 free agent market as a brittle change-of-pace back with just 12 games played in the past two seasons. Jason Snelling now has a clear path to every-down duties if Michael Turner's groin injury flares up. Snelling should be owned in all leagues.

Falcons coach Mike Smith indicated Monday that the status of Jerious Norwood (knee) is uncertain going forward.

"I know that everybody is concerned about Jerious," said Smith. "He has had some evaluation this morning. We are going to continue to evaluate it and we hope to have more information on Wednesday." It sounds like Norwood may be going for a second opinion. There are rumors he has a torn ACL.

Jerious Norwood (knee) needed crutches to get around on the sideline during Sunday's win over the Cardinals.

Norwood can be seen smiling and getting around without an obvious brace on the knee, but he's on crutches and didn't return after the right knee injury. The extent is unknown. Norwood presumably had an MRI Monday morning.

Jerious Norwood left Sunday's game against the Cardinals with a right knee injury.

The extent is unknown, but Norwood was taken to the locker room, which can't be a great sign. The injury-prone running back is questionable to return.

Jerious Norwood rushed twice for eight yards and caught one pass for nine yards against the Steelers in Week 1.

Norwood has regained his change-of-pace/third-down role with Jason Snelling functioning as more of a pure backup to Michael Turner. Norwood is the better bet of the two for weekly fantasy production, but he falls short of a flex option.
Sun, Sep 12, 2010 05:07:00 PM

Jerious Norwood had five carries for 22 yards and an eight-yard reception in the Falcons' third preseason game.

This is more like it. Norwood finally appears to be over the groin injury that's nagged him since early last season, busting a nine-yard run against the Dolphins' stout front seven. Norwood is a mere change of pace back, but can be an explosive check-down weapon for Matt Ryan when healthy.
Fri, Aug 27, 2010 10:45:00 PM

Jerious Norwood is still listed as the No. 2 running back on the Falcons' depth chart.

Even though Norwood missed most of camp with a hip flexor, he's listed ahead of Jason Snelling. We're not buying it. The more durable Snelling is the obvious choice to be Michael Turner's backup. Norwood will be used in a "change of pace" role.
