Jets C Nick Mangold will undergo an MRI on his ankle Tuesday.

Mangold's ankle got bent awkwardly in the third quarter of Monday's loss to the Texans, but he missed just two plays. Still, it's a concern as the Jets' offense went in the tank when Mangold missed two games due to a high-ankle sprain last year.

Mangold was limited in practice this week, but escaped New York's Week 5 loss to the Patriots healthy. His return provided an instant boost to the Jets' floundering ground attack, which will be going up against a Dolphins run defense allowing an average of 107.5 yards per game.

In a move that called to mind Eric Mangini's fruitless mind games, the Jets waited to announce their inactives until well after the list was due in to the league office. NFL.com's Albert Breer reports Jets C Nick Mangold (ankle) will start against the Patriots Sunday.

As expected. Mangold was expected to miss a minimum of 2-to-3 weeks upon suffering a high-ankle sprain in Week 2, so he's returning on the earlier end of expectations. The struggles of rookie Colin Baxter in his place essentially left the Jets with no choice but to rush back their All Pro.

"Chomping at the bit to get back," Mangold said. "I'm ready to go." Mangold is officially questionable, but HC Rex Ryan has made clear he expects him to play. Mangold's return cannot come soon enough for a Jets offense that could neither run nor pass in a disastrous effort against the Ravens last weekend.

The Jets offensive line struggled even before Mangold's injury, but it's been in absolute shambles since. As the best center in the NFL, Mangold's return should give the offense a much-needed boost heading into a huge divisional showdown in Foxboro.

Jets C Nick Mangold (ankle) says the chances he suits up against the Patriots this weekend are "looking good."

Mangold was a limited participant in Jets practice Wednesday, and said he felt as good as he has since going down in Week 2. If he's able to put in a full practice either Thursday or Friday, it will be a pretty good sign he's going to take the field this weekend. His status will be updated Thursday.

Jets C Nick Mangold (ankle) was in pads and doing drills with the first-team offense Wednesday.

It's Patriots week, so Mangold is going to push his high-ankle sprain as hard he can. Offensive linemen can play through the injury much easier than skill players, so there's certainly a chance Mangold suits up Sunday. The Jets' entire offense has been affected by his absence.

Jets coach Rex Ryan "didn't sound overly optimistic" on Nick Mangold's (ankle) status Monday.

If you saw the tape of Mangold working out before Sunday night's loss to the Ravens, you wouldn't be optimistic either. The All-Pro center was limping through drills and grimacing in pain. He may try to gut it out this week out of desperation, but Mangold would likely be far from 100 percent against the Patriots.

After watching Jets pre-game warmups Sunday night, NFL Network's Mike Lombardi speculated that C Nick Mangold is still "two to three weeks away" from returning from his high ankle sprain.

"Watching him warm up, even if he comes back next week, he won't be the same player," Lombardi added. The Jets were forced to bench an ineffective rookie Colin Baxter against the Ravens, kicking Matt Slauson to center and inserting Vlad Ducasse at left guard. They'll probably rush back Mangold for Week 5.

Jets C Nick Mangold (ankle) has been declared inactive for Sunday Night Football against the Ravens.

Rookie Colin Baxter will get the start against the Ravens' imposing front seven. Mangold was expected to miss a minimum of 2-to-3 weeks after suffering a high-ankle spain in Week 2, so it's hardly a surprise he couldn't give it a go this evening. He'll now set his sights on returning next Sunday for the Jets' annual visit to Foxboro. Also inactive for the Jets are QB Kevin O'Connell, WR Logan Payne, S Emanuel Cook, RB Bilal Powell, TE Josh Baker and DT Kenrick Ellis.

Jets C Nick Mangold (ankle) was able to practice on a limited basis Friday and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

It'll be a real testament to Mangold's toughness if he makes it back from a 4-6 week high ankle sprain after one missed game. The Jets will work Mangold out before Sunday night's matchup with the Ravens. New York is likely to struggle with the running game regardless, but Mangold's return can only help.

"I'm not one of those 'he has to practice' guys," coach Rex Ryan said Thursday. "We're talking about Nick Mangold here, so, no. He doesn't have to practice." Mangold has done well to avoid a setback this week, but he's still far from a sure bet to play against the Ravens.
