Former Jets C Nick Mangold announced his retirement after 11 seasons in the NFL.
Released by the Jets following the 2016 season, Mangold flirted with the Ravens last year, but he ultimately spent the season on the sidelines. Now 34 and coming off a year out of the league, Mangold is calling it quits. One of the best centers in the league during his prime, Mangold earned two All-Pro nods (2009 and 10) and went to seven Pro Bowls. ESPN New York expects free agent Nick Mangold to retire.

Mangold sat out last year after an injury-shortened 2016. He hasn't closed the door on a comeback but will need to prove his health this offseason. Mangold would likely have to settle for an incentive-laden deal if he returns.

Free agent C Nick Mangold said he's "not closing the door" on playing in 2018.

Mangold sat out all of last season after getting cut by the Jets following the 2016 year. The Ravens were the only known team to show interest in Mangold after his release, but he admitted there were other team that called; however, Mangold didn't feel healthy enough to play at the time. Now 34 and coming off a bad 2016 and absent 2017, we may have seen the last of Mangold.

Free agent C Nick Mangold said he is still struggling with a foot injury.

"I couldn’t get my foot to feel right and I wasn’t about to go out there and steal checks or anything," Mangold said. "I think it’s been a process trying to get my foot in the best position to get me back going and if that happens maybe we’ll see down the line what happens." Cut by the Jets in February, the Ravens are the only known team which expressed interest in Mangold over the offseason. Turning 34 in January and looking likely to spend a year out of the league, it is possible Mangold has already played his final snap.

The Dolphins have no plans to sign free agent C Nick Mangold.

Miami could use insurance for Mike Pouncey (hip), but Mangold wants a starting job and more money than the Dolphins could offer. It sounds like Miami will move forward with Kraig Urbik and Anthony Steen behind Pouncey. The Ravens are Mangold's most likely landing spot.

The Ravens remain interested in free agent C Nick Mangold.

Mangold made his only free-agent visit with Baltimore in early April. ESPN's Jamison Hensley suggests the sides may be in a holding pattern over money. Mangold's rehab from ankle surgery has taken more time than expected, but he would be a major upgrade over John Urschel and Ryan Jensen.

Free agent C Nick Mangold said his rehab from ankle surgery has been a "slow grind."

Rehab has taken "a lot longer" than Mangold expected, which might explain why he's still on the market. That combined with his age (33) and poor 2016 play renders Mangold an unattractive free agent. Ultimately, Mangold should be able to land a gig sometime before the season.

Free agent C Nick Mangold still hopes to play in 2017.

Mangold is still rehabbing his December ankle injury. "I'm just rehabbing, trying to get right, trying to get ready," he said. "We're still trying to see what the options are." Mangold visited the Ravens in early April. He turned 33 in January.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports there is "nothing imminent" between the Ravens and free agent C Nick Mangold.

GM Ozzie Newsome sparked speculation by saying there is a "high probability" the Ravens add a free agent before the draft, but it looks like he was pointing to a reunion with DB Lardarius Webb. Still, Mangold makes a lot of sense for the Ravens if he is healthy, and La Canfora reports the team is "comfortable with his medicals." It will not be surprising if Mangold ends up in Baltimore.

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome said there’s a "high probability" the Ravens add a free agent soon.

It suggests Baltimore plans to sign Nick Mangold. Mangold’s play has fallen off with injuries, but he could be an undervalued addition if healthy. The Ravens have $6.5 million in cap space after trading Timmy Jernigan.

Free agent C Nick Mangold left his Ravens visit without a contract.

That doesn't mean a deal won't come together at some point, but Mangold likely didn't like what he was hearing from a money standpoint. It was Mangold's first known visit of free agency. The 33-year-old fell off fast.

Free agent C Nick Mangold is visiting the Ravens on Wednesday.

The Ravens are the market for a center after trading Jeremy Zuttah to the 49ers. Baltimore has John Urschel and Ryan Jensen as in-house options to replace Zuttah, but Mangold would be a proven veteran. The question is whether 33-year-old Mangold has much left in the tank after an injury-ruined 2016.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan does not expect the Giants to pursue free agent C Nick Mangold.

The New York Daily News reported the Giants' interest on Monday. Raanan believes it is unlikely Mangold is willing to switch to guard, and the Giants already have an established starter at center in Weston Richburg. They also have Justin Pugh at left guard and signed D.J. Fluker to compete at right guard with John Jerry. If the Giants add anyone else to the offensive line, it needs to be at tackle.

The New York Daily News reports the Giants are interested in free agent C Nick Mangold.

It's Mangold's first tangible connection since he was released by the Jets on Feb. 25. The G-Men already have Weston Richburg at center, but ESPN's Dan Graziano has reported some teams are eyeing Mangold as a guard. Perhaps he could compete with John Jerry on the right side in New York. The Giants' run blocking left much to be desired in 2016.

ESPN's Dan Graziano reports teams that have expressed interest in free agent C Nick Mangold have asked if he'd be willing to move to guard.

Mangold has never played guard, and so far he's rebuffed teams that have asked him. His play has fallen off the past two seasons, but at 33, Mangold should have another year or two left as an average-to-plus starter.
