Eagles ILB DeMeco Ryans (Achilles') says he'll "definitely be back for the start of training camp."
"(It's) going great," Ryans said of his rehab. The Eagles obviously agree, otherwise they wouldn't have signed Ryans to a one-year extension last month. The extension is a sign the Eagles view the 31-year-old (in July) Ryans as a starter even though Mychal Kendricks and Kiko Alonso are both in the mix at inside linebacker. Apr 16 - 6:16 PM

Eagles signed ILB DeMeco Ryans to a one-year extension through 2016.

The deal lowers Ryans' cap number and will pay him $7.5 million over the next two years. It includes $6.25 million guaranteed. Recovering from a torn Achilles' tendon, Ryans had been going into the final year of his contract. The two-year commitment by Philadelphia strongly suggests coach Chip Kelly is counting on Ryans to immediately return to form despite the severe 2014 injury. There is speculation the Eagles will now trade Mychal Kendricks, and start Ryans next to Kiko Alonso at inside linebacker.

Eagles GM/coach Chip Kelly expects ILB DeMeco Ryans back with the team for 2015.

Coming off a torn Achilles' tendon, Ryans' Eagles future was cast into doubt after the team acquired Kiko Alonso, but Alonso is also coming off major injury. It wouldn't be the worst idea to keep Ryans behind Alonso and Mychal Kendricks, though his $6.9 million salary-cap number needs to be lowered. As of the moment, Ryans is questionable for training camp.

The Philadelphia Daily News' Paul Domowitch believes Eagles ILB DeMeco Ryans is a candidate for a contract extension.

Going on 31, Ryans counts $6.9 million against the salary cap in the final year of his deal. A two-year extension that lowers his cap number this year and offers Ryans some security could work for both sides. Ryans is questionable for training camp after tearing his Achilles' tendon early in November.

Eagles placed ILB DeMeco Ryans on injured reserve with a torn Achilles' tendon, ending his season.

They signed ex-Jaguars S Chris Prosisnki to replace Ryans on the roster. The loss is a big one from a leadership perspective, and could also soften Philly's run defense. Through eight starts, Ryans had 45 tackles, four pass breakups, and an interception. The Eagles will be forced to lean on some combination of Casey Matthews and Emmanuel Acho next to Mychal Kendricks the rest of the way.

Speaking Monday, Eagles coach Chip Kelly confirmed ILB DeMeco Ryans suffered an Achilles' injury in Sunday's win over the Texans.

The Eagles are apparently awaiting MRI results before officially declaring Ryans out for the season, but he's fully expected to miss the rest of 2014. Replacement-level talent Casey Matthews is the next man up on the depth chart.

A source tells PFT that Eagles ILB DeMeco Ryans tore his Achilles' tendon during Sunday's Week 9 win at Houston and is out for the season.

Ryans blew out his Achilles' after intercepting a Ryan Fitzpatrick pass in the fourth quarter Sunday. The unquestioned leader of the Eagles, it will be a big blow to a defense that is already of the "bend but don't break" variety. Liability Casey Matthews will have to step up next to Mychal Kendricks. Ryans, 30, is facing a very long rehab process as heads into the final year of his contract in 2015. This is the same Achilles' tendon he tore a few years ago.

Eagles ILB DeMeco Ryans left Sunday's Week 9 game at Houston in the fourth quarter with an undisclosed injury.

Ryans picked off a Ryan Fitzpatrick pass and started to run. Then he went down untouched and in a ton of pain, losing the ball in the process. Ryans, an ex-Texan, had to be carted off.

Eagles ILB DeMeco Ryans (groin) expects to be active for Week 6, but acknowledged it's not a sure thing.

Ryans is truly day to day. His health is doubly important this week with Mychal Kendricks (calf) still questionable. Emmanuel Acho would get the call against the Giants if Ryans can't go.

Eagles ILB DeMeco Ryans suffered a groin injury during Sunday's Week 5 win over the Rams.

Ryans left in the fourth quarter and didn't return. If he can't play against the Giants in Week 6, it would be a massive concern for the Eagles defense. They're already without their other starting inside linebacker Mychal Kendricks (calf).

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Eagles ILB DeMeco Ryans "isn't going anywhere."

The Eagles are about $10 million under the projected salary cap, so they don't necessarily need to clear Ryans and his $6.9 million hit. There was some talk that the Eagles could approach Ryans about a pay cut, but that's considered unlikely to happen. Ryans played 96 percent of the defensive snaps last season and will return to bark out the plays next to ILB Mychal Kendricks.

The Philadelphia Inquirer believes Eagles ILB DeMeco Ryans will likely have to take a pay cut to return in 2014.

Ryans is currently slated to earn a non-guaranteed $6.9 million in salary and bonuses next season. He started all 16 games this past season, recording 127 tackles and four sacks, but graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 54 inside linebacker out of 55 qualifiers in its end-of-year ratings. Ryans will turn 30 in the summer. Mychal Kendricks is locked in as the other inside 'backer.

Eagles ILB DeMeco Ryans is playing on 96 percent of the snaps this season.

Ryans is playing near the level he was at before a ruptured Achilles' tendon in 2010. He's fourth in the NFL with 89 tackles, and also has two sacks, four pass breakups and two interceptions. He's also the on-field leader of Billy Davis' improved defense, making the calls at the line of scrimmage. Ryans may actually be back for his age-30 season with the Eagles despite a $6.8 million base salary.

Eagles ILB DeMeco Ryans insists he's a fit for new coach Chip Kelly's 3-4 defense.

"It's a big perception that DeMeco doesn't fit in the 3-4," Ryans said, talking in the third person. "I played with the Texans in the 3-4 defense when we were the (No. 2) defense in the league. If I didn't fit in there, we wouldn't have been that highly ranked. It's all about being versatile." Ryans is half right, but he came off the field for a majority passing downs in 2011, playing just 58.4 percent of the Texans' defensive snaps. He played 99.7 percent for the Eagles last season. For his part, Kelly is confident Ryans will be a fit, but he'll likely be playing fewer snaps.

Coach Chip Kelly was "effusive" in his praise of ILB DeMeco Ryans at the Combine, making it clear Ryans has a future with the Eagles.

Ryans is not considered the best 3-4 defender in some circles and the Eagles are transitioning to a 3-4, but Kelly is confident he'll make it work. Ryans, 28, finished his first season in Philadelphia with 113 tackles, one sack, and one interception. Pro Football Focus graded Ryans as a top-20 inside linebacker.
