The Saints have reworked DT Brodrick Bunkley's contract, dropping his 2013 base salary from $3.7 million to $750,000.
In exchange, the Saints cut a $2.95 million check for Bunkley in the form of a "signing" bonus. Previously scheduled to count $4.7 million versus the cap, Bunkley's cap number dipped to $2.5 million. Bunkley is an undersized, 6-foot-2, 306-pound nose tackle, but Rob Ryan isn't afraid to use smaller guys on the nose in his 3-4. Bunkley will likely compete to retain his starting job. Saints signed DT Brodrick Bunkley to a five-year, $25 million contract with $9 million guaranteed.

With GM Mickey Loomis' suspension not yet implemented, it's business as usual in the Saints' front office as the team stays the course amid bounty scandal discipline. The Broncos were making a "hard" push to re-sign Bunkley as of Tuesday, but the Saints apparently beat Denver's offer. Bunkley has only six sacks in six seasons, but he is an effective one-gap, 4-3 nose tackle. He projects as an upgrade on outgoing Shaun Rogers and Aubrayo Franklin.

The Broncos are "working hard" to re-sign free agent DT Brodrick Bunkley.

Bunkley spent Tuesday evening in New Orleans, but has otherwise been greeted by a slow-developing market for defensive tackles. Now that the Broncos are no longer preoccupied by the chase for Peyton Manning, they could have Bunkley back in the fold in relatively short order.

Free agent DT Brodrick Bunkley will visit the Saints Sunday.

It's Bunkley's first known visit since the start of free agency. The Saints have a hole at defensive tackle with both Shaun Rogers and Aubrayo Franklin expected to walk.

At least one AFC personnel director believes Brodrick Bunkley is the best 4-3 nose tackle available in free agency.

The 4-3 nose position is different from the 3-4 nose. 4-3 NTs are ordinarily lighter and expected to rush the passer more. "He's got some talent," the AFC exec said of Bunkley. "He can get up the field and be that penetrator." Other potential 4-3 nose tackles on the market include Pat Sims (Bengals), Luis Castillo (Chargers), Trevor Laws (Eagles), and Cory Redding (Ravens).

Broncos DT Brodrick Bunkley sustained a concussion in Saturday's loss to the Patriots.

Bunkley left in the third quarter and did not return. He heads into free agency after recording 43 tackles and no sacks in 16 regular season games.

Broncos DT Brodrick Bunkley was knocked out of Saturday's Divisional round playoff game in the third quarter with a neck injury.

Bunkley looked like he got knocked out while going for a Stevan Ridley fumble recovery. He's questionable to return.

Broncos DT Brodrick Bunkley (sprained knee) resumed practicing Thursday.

Listed as the starter opposite Kevin Vickerson, Bunkley had been sidelined since the third preseason game. It's not yet clear if he will be in the lineup for Monday night's game. Either way, Darren McFadden has an excellent matchup.

Broncos DT Brodrick Bunkley (sprained knee) is questionable for Week 1.

The Broncos' defensive interior has been decimated this month. They've already lost Ty Warren, Marcus Thomas (pectoral) is in doubt for Week 1 and LB D.J. Williams (elbow) is out 3-4 weeks. Darren McFadden is licking his chops for his season-opening matchup in Denver.

Broncos DT Brodrick Bunkley suffered a knee injury in Saturday's preseason game.

Bunkley's been tentatively diagnosed with a sprain, but will undergo an MRI on Sunday. Bunkley was hurt on a cut-block by Seahawks OG Robert Gallery. Acquired from the Eagles earlier this month, Bunkley should enter the season as a starter if he's healthy.

The Browns nullified the Brodrick Bunkley trade due to medical concerns, a source tells the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

It was originally reported that Bunkley refused to report to Cleveland, but that apparently isn't the case. The medical red flag and/or failed physical likely relates to the elbow injury that plagued the former first-round pick last season. Regardless, the Broncos were willing to give up a conditional 2013 pick for Bunk.

Broncos acquired DT Brodrick Bunkley from the Eagles in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick in 2013.

This is getting ridiculous. Bunkley refused to report to Cleveland after being shipped there for a 2012 fifth-round pick on Saturday. He gets his way and will go to Denver, where starting is a real possibility considering the Broncos' weaknesses at defensive tackle. The Eagles are stuck with a less desirable pick, and the Browns still don't have any pass rushers aside from rookie second-rounder Jabaal Sheard and undersized nickel end Marcus Benard.

Brodrick Bunkley has yet to report to Browns training camp and "no one knows if he ever will."

Bunkley was shipped from Philly to Cleveland on Saturday, a move he couldn't have been pleased with. The Browns remain on the hook for the 2012 fifth-rounder they sent to the Eagles even if Bunkley doesn't show because NFL trades are made "at your own risk." The Browns clearly didn't do enough digging into the player.

Browns acquired DT Brodrick Bunkley from the Eagles in exchange for a 2012 fifth-round draft pick.

Bunkley was drafted by Browns GM Tom Heckert five years ago in Philly. A big disappointment as the former 14th pick in the draft, Bunkley's playing time was significantly reduced last season in favor of Antonio Dixon. Bunkley, 27, is theoretically a three-technique pass rusher, but has six sacks in 76 career appearances. We have serious doubts that, aside from rookie Jabaal Sheard, the Browns will be able to create any kind of pressure up front.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera plans to add at least one veteran to his defensive line when transactions are re-allowed.

"We made a couple of moves here in the draft, but we’d still like to see if we can find a veteran defensive line guy who could help us," said Rivera. DT Brodrick Bunkley appears to be on the outs in Philly, and was coached by new Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott for the last two years. He may be an option if the Panthers are willing to surrender a late-round pick.
