Jaguars signed WR/TE Maurice Stovall.
Stovall has been a wide receiver throughout his career, but the Jaguars announced him as a tight end. He is also replacing TE Stephen Spach on the roster. Regardless, Stovall will focus on special teams if active Sunday. Wed, Sep 19, 2012 10:44:00 AM

Lions re-signed WR Maurice Stovall to a one-year contract.

Primarily a special teamer in his first season with the Lions, Stovall caught just one pass for eight yards in 15 games last year. If he makes the roster again this time around, it will be with the same role in mind.

Lions signed WR Maurice Stovall, formerly of the Bucs.

Like Rashied Davis, Stovall is a fourth receiver and special teamer. The two veterans will likely battle Derrick Williams for one roster spot with Stefan Logan handling returns as the fifth receiver. We're keeping an eye on rookie Titus Young, who has missed the last two practices with a leg injury.

Free agent WR Maurice Stovall is undecided about re-signing with the Bucs.

"I'm back and forth with it," Stovall said. "I'm going to weigh my options." As a fifth receiver and special teamer, Stovall isn't going to have teams beating down his door. He won't be guaranteed a roster spot no matter where he lands.

Bucs declared WR Maurice Stovall, WR Preston Parker, DL Erik Lorig, third QB Rudy Carpenter, RB LeGarrette Blount, RB Kregg Lumpkin, OL Ted Larsen and DL Michael Bennett inactive for Sunday's game against the Browns.

Rookie Arrelious Benn is surprisingly ahead of Stovall as the No. 4 wideout. Also, Karerem Huggins is the clear backup to Caddy Williams with newcomers Blount and Lumpkin inactive. FB Earnest Graham is also available for carries.

Bucs WR Maurice Stovall (ankle) has returned to practice.

Stovall has already been ruled out for the preseason finale after missing two weeks of practice and games. He'll return to a special teams role with Sammie Stroughter moving into the starting lineup opposite Mike Williams.

Bucs WR Maurice Stovall (ankle) has been ruled out for the team's preseason finale Thursday.

He missed out on what may go down as the best chance of his career to claim a starting job, ceding it to Sammie Stroughter after suffering what likely was a high ankle sprain. Stovall hasn't played since the preseason opener.

Maurice Stovall (ankle) is not expected to play in the Bucs' third preseason game.

Coach Raheem Morris acknowledged that "it will be tough" for Stovall to win the starting "Z" receiver job after missing two straight games. Sammie Stroughter is considered the favorite to enter the season as the starter, though Reggie Brown is also in the mix.

Bucs coach Raheem Morris confirmed Tuesday that the team's starting flanker job is still "up for grabs."

Maurice Stovall is currently listed as the first-stringer, but Sammie Stroughter, rookie Arrelious Benn, and Reggie Brown are pushing for the job. WRs coach Eric Yarber appreciates Stovall's knowledge of the scheme and attention to detail, but he's certainly not going to be a difference maker. The job should be Benn's by early in the season, assuming he holds off Stroughter.

Maurice Stovall has been ruled out for the Bucs' second preseason game due to an ankle injury.

The injury bug has frequently bitten Stovall in his five-year career, costing him 20 games in the previous four seasons. This could pave the way for rookie Arrelious Benn to move up the depth chart. While Stovall has been listed as the Bucs' starting flanker throughout camp, Benn has been third string.

Updating a previous item, the Tampa Tribune reports that Maurice Stovall has emerged as the favorite to start at flanker for the Bucs.

The report contradicts an earlier suggestion from ESPN that Stovall's roster spot was in jeopardy because he was low on the depth chart. Tampa Trib writer Roy Cummings is at practice every day, and almost certainly has a better grip on the goings-on for the team he covers directly. Cummings also quotes Bucs WRs coach Eric Yarber: "Right now Stovall is with the 1s. He's having a real good camp." Stovall lacks big-playmaking ability, but appears to be beating out Arrelious Benn, with Sammie Stroughter ticketed for the slot.

Bucs re-signed restricted free agent WR Maurice Stovall to a one-year, $1.176 million contract.

Stovall, 25, made seven starts last year, catching 24 passes for 366 yards (15.3 YPC) and a touchdown. He's a better option than Michael Clayton, but would be a fourth receiver/special teamer on a good team. The good news for Stovall's outlook is that Tampa has the league's worst receiver corps.

The Bucs have tendered restricted free agent Maurice Stovall at the "original pick" level.

A team would have to give Tampa a third-round pick to sign Stovall away. Stovall, 25, has developed into a core special teamer, but lacks suddenness to get consistent separation. He'll likely be a fourth receiver in 2010.

Maurice Stovall is expected to keep his starting job even though Michael Clayton (knee) is set to return this week.

Clayton will likely only play in three-wide sets. It's a good move by the Bucs, who need to see what they have in Stovall as he's a pending free agent. Stovall isn't a fantasy option though -- he has just seven catches for 80 yards in the three games that Clayton has missed.
Thu, Dec 24, 2009 11:41:00 AM

Bucs coach Raheem Morris said that Maurice Stovall will have an expanded role even when Michael Clayton (knee) returns.

Morris didn't say if Stovall will remain the starter, but did say that he thinks Clayton is more productive with fewer snaps. Tampa's passing game would be more productive if Clayton didn't play any snaps at all. Stovall has seven catches in his last two games, but isn't a fantasy option against the Jets Sunday.
