Colts signed ILB D'Qwell Jackson to a four-year, $22 million contract.
The deal includes $11 million guaranteed. In need of a steadying presence next to Jerrell Freeman, the Colts have overpaid for linebacker help in free agency once again. This time they add a leader and one of the game's most prolific tacklers, but one that is entering his age-31 season, fits better in a 4-3 scheme, and has struggled badly against the run over the last two years. Jackson also had visits with the Titans, Broncos and Dolphins. Jackson is an every-down linebacker, but won't solve Indianapolis' run defense woes. Mar 6 - 9:33 AM

Free agent ILB D'Qwell Jackson is expected to sign with a team by the end of the week.

Jackson is expected to choose between the four teams he's visited: the Dolphins, Colts, Broncos, and Titans. The 30-year-old wants to have a new home by the time the legal tampering period begins for the rest of the free-agent class at midnight Friday night/Saturday morning. He's visiting the Colts on Wednesday.

The Miami Herald reports free agent ILB D'Qwell Jackson will sign with one of the four teams he's visited.

That's the Dolphins, Colts, Broncos and Titans. Indy is getting the last crack after Jackson visited Miami on Monday. The Herald reported Monday that Jackson was "very intrigued" by the Dolphins, but his intrigue wasn't enough to sign on the dotted line without first giving the Colts a looksee. The fact that Jackson won't take any more visits is a sign he'd like to have a new home before teams can start talking with all free agents on Saturday.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports free agent ILB D'Qwell Jackson will visit the Colts.

Jackson is wrapping up a visit with the Dolphins on Tuesday and will hop back on the plane and head to Indianapolis. He's drawing a ton of interest; the Broncos and Titans have already met with Jackson since his release from the Browns last week. Indy is looking for a starter next to ILB Jerrell Freeman.

The Miami Herald confirms the Dolphins are "very intrigued" by free agent ILB D'Qwell Jackson.

The Nashville Tennessean reported Jackson is meeting with the Dolphins on Monday. Jackson has also visited the Titans and Broncos. Jackson racked up a gaudy 141 tackles last season, but was actually frequently washed out against the run. His name is bigger than his game at this point.
Mar 3 - 5:00 PM

Free agent ILB D'Qwell Jackson will meet with the Dolphins Monday night.

Jackson has been a busy man since the Browns released him Wednesday. He's already met with the Titans and Broncos, and has also been linked to the Cardinals and Redskins. In Miami, Jackson would likely step into the middle linebacker spot and kick Dannell Ellerbe to the outside. Weak-side 'backer Philip Wheeler was a disaster last season.
Mar 3 - 12:16 PM

Free agent ILB D'Qwell Jackson is currently flying to Denver for his visit with the Broncos.

Jackson visited the Titans this weekend, but left without a contract in place. The Cardinals also recently reached out to Jackson. Jackson would resume playing 4-3 middle linebacker with the defending AFC Champion Broncos, in a situation that should very much appeal to him. Jackson is entering his age-31 campaign, and he's always been more effective in 4-3 defenses than 3-4s.
Mar 2 - 5:33 PM

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Cardinals have reached out to free agent ILB D'Qwell Jackson.

Arizona is trying to arrange a visit for next week. Jackson may never make it to the desert. He has visits scheduled in Tennessee on Friday and Denver on Monday. The Vikings and Redskins are also said to be interested in the 30-year-old linebacker. The Cardinals' top priority is re-signing free agent ILB Karlos Dansby, but Jackson wouldn't be a bad fallback option.

Free agent ILB D'Qwell Jackson will visit the Titans this weekend before visiting the Broncos on Monday.

Tennessee and Jackson's former DC Ray Horton get the first shot at signing him. Jackson is reportedly drawing interest from at least five teams, with Minnesota and Washington joining Tennessee and Denver. Players often sign with the first team they visit, but the price is going to have to be right. Jackson likely isn't interested in discounts heading into his age-31 season.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports free agent LB D'Qwell Jackson will visit the Titans and Broncos this weekend.

La Canfora has had the ear of Jackson's agent since his release. He reports the Vikings are also interested. The Nashville Tennessean opined shortly after Jackson's release that the Titans would likely have interest. Jackson stuffed the stat-sheet under new Titans DC Ray Horton in Cleveland last season. With Wesley Woodyard also a free agent, the Broncos are in the market for inside linebackers.
Feb 27 - 4:52 PM

ESPN Redskins reporter John Keim considers Washington a potential landing spot for free agent ILB D'Qwell Jackson.

The Redskins are in the market for a starting inside linebacker with London Fletcher done and Perry Riley a free agent. Jackson, 30, has a tie to the coaching staff in outside linebackers coach Brian Baker, who held that position with the Browns last season. He also went to the University of Maryland and would bring some of the leadership qualities Fletcher had. The linebacker-needy Vikings are also a potential option.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports seven teams reached out to free agent ILB D'Qwell Jackson following his release from the Browns on Wednesday.

This is probably a bit agent-driven, but NFL Network's Jeff Darlington, who is a high school pal of Jackson's, also confirmed that Jackson was drawing heavy interest. Darlington reports Jackson, 30, will start his tour Thursday. He's going to have plenty of suitors and can play in both 3-4 and 4-3 schemes.
Feb 26 - 6:56 PM

The Nashville Tennessean expects the Titans to show interest in free agent ILB D'Qwell Jackson.

Jackson was released by the Browns on Wednesday. He played for new Titans DC Ray Horton in Cleveland last season and racked up a team-leading 141 tackles. When Horton joined the Cleveland coaching staff ahead of the 2013 season, he called Jackson a "coach's dream." With the Titans expected to implement more 3-4 concepts, Jackson could help teach the defense and be a nice fit at inside linebacker next to third-year pro Zach Brown. Jackson should have plenty of suitors.
Feb 26 - 5:35 PM

Browns released ILB D'Qwell Jackson.

Jackson, 30, was due $4.1 million in bonuses on March 16. The Browns are saving $5.23 million against the 2014 cap with the move but are also eating $4.2 million in dead money. Jackson has spent his entire eight-year career with the Browns since being the No. 34 pick in the 2006 draft. He finished with a team-high 141 tackles in 2013 and has led the Browns in that department each of the past three seasons. Pro Football Focus graded Jackson out as a bottom-six inside linebacker against the run last season. He has shown an ability to get to the quarterback the past three years, registering 8.5 sacks. Jackson can play every down and is a top-six free agent inside 'backer.
Feb 26 - 3:38 PM

New GM Ray Farmer said the Browns will make a decision on ILB D'Qwell Jackson before his $4.1 million roster bonus is due on March 15.

Obviously. Ahead of Week 17, Jackson said he would be "shocked" if he wasn't back with the Browns in 2014. A lot of things have changed in Cleveland since then. The Browns are in great shape cap-wise, so shedding Jackson's $9.43 million hit isn't a necessity. But the Browns may approach Jackson about a restructure. He was PFF's No. 42 inside 'backer out of 55 qualifiers in 2013.
