The Bengals are expected to start Kelly Jennings at right corner going forward.
Leon Hall (Achilles) is done for the year and Johnathan Joseph fled for Houston last summer. That leaves the speedy yet small Jennings as the starter opposite Nate Clements. Downgrade the Bengals' pass defense, especially against bigger receivers. Thu, Nov 17, 2011 09:54:00 AM

Bengals declared CB Kelly Jennings, S Taylor Mays, RB Cedric Peerman, OG Otis Hudson, LB Dontay Moch, WR Ryan Whalen, and S Robert Sands inactive for Week 1.

Jennings' absence, due to a hamstring injury, is a blow because he was going to open the year among Cincinnati's top three cornerbacks. Morgan Trent and little-used Rico Murray are behind him on the depth chart. Otherwise, the Bengals are healthy at most key positions for their opener against the Browns.

Bengals CB Kelly Jennings (hamstring) is doubtful for Week 1.

Jennings was able to practice in a limited fashion on Friday, but will be a game-time decision against the Browns. Set to serve as the Bengals' nickel back until Pacman Jones comes off the PUP list, Jennings should be spelled by Morgan Trent if he's unable to go tomorrow.

Bengals acquired CB Kelly Jennings from the Seahawks in exchange for DT Clinton McDonald.

With Pacman Jones (neck) out until midseason, the Bengals were desperate for a nickel corner to play behind Nate Clemens and Leon Hall. Jennings' salary is $1.835 million, but Cincinnati can afford to take it on. A first-round pick in 2006, Jennings was a disappointment throughout his Seahawks career and didn't fit Pete Carroll's preference for big corners at just 5'11/180. The Seahawks' No. 3 CB is now former CFLer Brandon Browner.

Seahawks re-signed CB Kelly Jennings to a one-year contract.

Jennings found a soft market for his services, so he signs a one-year deal and will look to hit the market again in 2012. The former first-round pick will play a nickel or dime role for coach Pete Carroll's defense.

The Tacoma News Tribune predicts the Seahawks will bring back free agent CB Kelly Jennings "for continued depth at a need position."

We're not so sure on this one. Coach Pete Carroll wants bigger, more physical corners that can make quarterbacks throw into tighter windows. Neither Jennings nor last year's discard, Josh Wilson, fit that profile. Jennings is likely to get a better offer from another team.

The Detroit News floats the idea of the Lions making a play for free agent CB Kelly Jennings this summer.

A far cry from Nnamdi Asogmuha or Johnathan Joseph, Jennings would hopefully be nothing more than a fallback option. Beat writer Chris McCosky notes GM Martin Mayhew's predilection toward former Seahawks, such as Nate Burleson, Maurice Morris, Julian Peterson, and Lawrence Jackson. Pro Football Focus graded Jennings as slightly below average in coverage, which would constitute an upgrade in Detroit.

Both RCB Kelly Jennings (hamstring) and CB Walter Thurmond (concussion) are expected to practice Wednesday.

The Seahawks had hoped to get Jennings back in Week 8, while Thurmond was concussed in the game against the Raiders. It sounds like both could suit up this weekend, but check back for updates.
Wed, Nov 3, 2010 12:26:00 PM

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the hope is that both RCB Kelly Jennings (hamstring) and DT Brandon Mebane (calf) will be able to return to practice Thursday.

They'll probably both be listed as questionable again for Week 8, but check back later this week. Mebane has missed the last two contests, while Jennings sat out this past week.

Seahawks declared CB Kelly Jennings, DT Brandon Mebane, S Nate Ness, LB Dexter Davis, OL Allen Barbre, OG Chester Pitts, TE Anthony McCoy, and DE E.J. Wilson inactive for Week 7.

Mebane's loss is a nice boost for Beanie Wells' matchup. The three technique tackle is one of the more underrated interior run-stopping lineman around. Jennings will be replaced by rookie Walter Thurmond III at right corner.

Seahawks RCB Kelly Jennings (hamstring) was unable to practice Wednesday.

Walter Thurmond worked with the starters in Jennings' absence. It's not clear at this point what his chances are of suiting up for Week 6.
Thu, Oct 21, 2010 11:51:00 AM

Seahawks RCB Kelly Jennings (hamstring) left the Week 6 game in the second quarter. He will not return.

Roy Lewis is his backup. Jay Cutler started the game slowly, but the Bears' passing game has picked up the pace since Jennings left.
Sun, Oct 17, 2010 02:00:00 PM

Seahawks CB Kelly Jennings will miss all pre-training camp workouts while recovering from shoulder surgery.

It sounds like this was a reconstructive operation. Jennings, Seattle's 2006 first-round pick, appears to be a dime corner at best. Ken Lucas and Marcus Trufant are the starters with Josh Wilson likely covering the slot.
Thu, Apr 30, 2009 01:41:00 PM

The Seahawks are expected to upgrade at cornerback this offseason.

2006 first-rounder Kelly Jennings is coming off a disastrous season, and Josh Wilson is better utilized as a slot corner. Getting Patrick Kerney back to full health to provide a consistent pass rush would go a long way to helping a pass defense that allowed 259.3 yards per game.
Tue, Jan 27, 2009 10:52:00 AM

Seahawks RCB Kelly Jennings has been benched in favor of Josh Wilson.

This happens when you get blown out 44-6. Wilson was a second-round pick in 2007, but is better utilized as a slot corner. Jennings, a first-round pick in 2006, has blown assignments and been a disappointment.
