49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks' 2013 salary has de-escalated from $4.3 million to $2.7 million because he "did not meet certain requirements."
Those "certain requirements" included playing 93.2 percent of the 49ers' defensive snaps, and San Francisco winning 12 games. It's rough stuff for a player who had a big season, notching 47 tackles, 6.5 sacks and an interception. Going on 29, Brooks graded out as the No. 5 3-4 outside linebacker in Pro Football Focus' ratings after being No. 22 a season ago. Brooks is signed through 2017. Feb 13 - 1:12 PM

A source tells ProFootballTalk.com that OLB Ahmad Brooks (shoulder) will play in Sunday's Super Bowl.

As expected. Brooks has a mere Grade 1 sprain of his AC joint and could have played last week if there was a game. The standout all-around outside 'backer had 47 tackles, 6.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and returned an interception for a touchdown during the regular season.

49ers OLBs Ahmad Brooks (shoulder) and Aldon Smith (shoulder) were both limited in Wednesday's practice.

Brooks is dealing with a Grade 1 sprain to his AC joint, but he said he could have played if there was a game last week. So, you can bet Brooks will be out there for the Super Bowl. Smith is in no danger of missing, either.
Jan 30 - 8:55 PM

49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 AC sprain in his shoulder.

Grade 1 is the mildest degree of sprain. Brooks confirmed he could have played last Sunday if there were a game and he's unlikely to be limited at all in this week's Super Bowl.
Jan 30 - 10:45 AM

49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks (shoulder) has been playing through a dislocated finger.

Brooks suffered the injury all the way back in training camp. However, CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco assures there's "no question" Brooks will suit up for next week's Super Bowl. Brooks graded out as the No. 5 outside linebacker in Pro Football Focus' ratings. He may need an offseason operation or two.
Jan 27 - 3:11 PM

49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks (shoulder) returned to a limited practice on Friday.

Brooks sat out the first two days of the week and was limited to riding a stationary bike. He joins fellow edge rusher Aldon Smith (shoulder) on the practice field as they sport black no-contact jerseys. You can count on both Brooks and Smith playing in the Super Bowl.
Jan 25 - 5:21 PM

49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks (shoulder) did not practice again on Thursday.

Fellow OLB Aldon Smith (shoulder) was limited again for the second straight day, wearing a black no-contact jersey. Neither injury is believed to be serious, and we wouldn't worry about it too much during the bye week leading up to the Super Bowl. Brooks and Smith combined for 26 sacks this season, but neither has found the quarterback in the playoffs.
Jan 24 - 5:29 PM

49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks (shoulder) did not practice Wednesday.

Brooks missed a few plays in the NFC Championship Game, but was able to finish it out. The injury doesn't appear serious as he was spotted without any kind of brace Wednesday. The second-team All-Pro selection compiled 47 tackles, 6.5 sacks, one interception and two forced fumbles during the regular season.
Jan 24 - 8:29 AM

49ers re-signed OLB Ahmad Brooks to a six-year extension.

The maximum value of Brooks' deal is reportedly $44.5 million, with $17.5 million guaranteed. Coming off a career year with 50 tackles, seven sacks, and three passes defensed as an every-down player on the NFL's second-best defense, Brooks would have been one of the premier 3-4 outside linebackers on the market. Turning 28 next month, Brooks' 1,123 snaps were fourth on Vic Fangio's defense. The 49ers paid a premium, but they're now set at linebacker with Brooks and Aldon Smith on the outside and Pro Bowlers Patrick Willis and Navorro Bowman on the inside.

According to NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora, the 49ers are now "deep in talks" with free agent OLB Ahmad Brooks on a long-term contract.

Brooks turned down an offer during the season, as the Niners were reportedly loath to pay big money. The new deal is expected to be finalized soon, however, with Brooks collecting the massive sum of roughly $35 million over five years. The numbers reflect Brooks' value in San Francisco's system. Perhaps Aldon Smith won't become an every-down player this year after all.

According to CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, the 49ers "are not going to pay big money" to retain free agent OLB Ahmad Brooks.

The Niners intend to promote 2011 first-round pick Aldon Smith into the starting lineup, becoming an every-down player. Brooks, 28, has a good chance to test the market after posting career highs in tackles (50) and sacks (7) as a 16-game starter last season. A history of off-field issues may affect Brooks' market value, but he plays a very valuable NFL position.

Ahmad Brooks is one of a handful of players to reportedly turn down a long-term contract proposal from the 49ers.

Others believed to have turned down an offer are RG Adam Snyder, TE Delanie Walker, ILB Larry Grant, and S C.J. Spillman. Brooks has expressed an interest in staying with the 49ers long-term, but he apparently wasn't thrilled with the team's offer.

Impending free agent OLB Ahmad Brooks hopes to sign a long-term deal with the 49ers.

"I feel like San Francisco's my home," Brooks said. "I wouldn't want to play anywhere else." A starter at left outside linebacker, Brooks is third on the team with four sacks while recording 22 tackles in seven games.

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh singled out OLB Ahmad Brooks for "having a heck of a camp."

Offseason concerns about Brooks arriving to camp out of shape turned out to be unfounded. "I'm pleased and encouraged with his progress," said Harbaugh, "and hopefully he'll keep right on coming at the rate he is." Brooks has been lining up as the starter on the left side, with Parys Haralson and first-rounder Aldon Smith competing on the right side.

When asked about outside pass-rushers, new 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio mentioned OLB Ahmad Brooks first.

Fangio admitted that Brooks is a bit of an unknown, as he's often flashed but hasn't put it together. He's also aware that his outside linebackers badly need an upgrade after a four-man rotation combined for just 16.5 sacks in 2010. Brooks' role will depend on what kind of talent is added to the position.
