Chargers agreed to terms with QB Kellen Clemens, formerly of the Rams, on a two-year, $3 million contract.
With Charlie Whitehurst headed to the Titans on a two-year deal, Clemens will replace Checkdown Charlie as Philip Rivers' backup. Clemens was surprisingly serviceable in nine starts in place of Sam Bradford last season, but was still well short of effective. He's a game-manager who can keep teams in games with a strong running game. Clemens is a major upgrade on Whitehurst, who's one of the league's least-effective backups. Mar 13 - 5:14 PM

Kellen Clemens completed 21-of-30 passes for 157 yards, one touchdown, and two picks in St. Louis' Week 17 loss to Seattle.

Clemens wound up starting nine games following Sam Bradford's ACL tear, compiling an 8:7 TD-to-INT ratio as a caretaker quarterback who severely limited what the Rams could do offensively. They changed their entire offense with Clemens under center, morphing from a spread to run-heavy team in an effort to "hide" Clemens. Clemens is now an impending free agent. St. Louis should look to upgrade in the offseason, though OC Brian Schottenheimer's familiarity with Clemens could buy him another year in the Gateway City.

Kellen Clemens completed 16-of-20 passes for 158 yards in St. Louis' 23-13, Week 16 win over the Bucs.

Clemens minded the store as the Rams played keep away with the run game. His biggest contribution came in the second quarter, where he lost a fumble on an ill-advised draw on 3rd-and-goal from the Bucs' two-yard line. An impending free agent, Clemens hasn't shown much in the absence of Sam Bradford, but has likely played well enough to earn another back-up job. He's going to have a painful Week 17 against the Seahawks in Seattle.

Kellen Clemens completed 14-of-20 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns in Week 15 against the Saints.

Clemens didn’t have to do much with Zac Stacy putting the offense on his back. All Clemens needed to do was take care of the ball. He did just that, as his offensive line provided stellar protection all afternoon. The combo on the right side featuring RG Rodger Saffold and RT Joe Barksdale has been nails. Clemens’ two touchdowns went to Cory Harkey on a screen and Lance Kendricks in the back of the end zone. Kendricks made a great catch, while Harkey busted through weak tackle attempts for the 31-yard score. Clemens isn’t a fantasy option. He gets the Bucs at home next week.

Kellen Clemens completed 16-of-27 passes for 181 yards and two interceptions in the Rams' Week 14 loss to the Cardinals.

Clemens was downright awful, which tends to happen more often than not with him. He was indecisive with the football and made some really bad throws. Clemens' first interception was a pick-six that he threw right to Karlos Dansby. The second was a heave down the middle of the field. Clemens was sacked four times and hit numerous other times. Backup QB Austin Davis was warming up at one point after Clemens was decked from behind on a sack. Clemens won't be a fantasy option next week against the Saints at home.

Kellen Clemens completed 19-of-37 passes for 218 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Rams' Week 13 loss to the 49ers.

Clemens had a rough day. A vast majority of his passing yards came on the final, garbage-time touchdown drive. Clemens was sacked three times and hit several other times. His interception wasn't entirely his fault. Clemens delivered a bit of a high pass to Tavon Austin that clanked up into the air and came down in a defender's arms. Clemens' touchdown went to Brian Quick on an end-zone fade. Clemens and the Rams travel to Arizona next Sunday.

Kellen Clemens completed 10-of-22 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown in St. Louis' 42-21, Week 12 win over the Bears.

Clemens managed the game in a contest where the score could have been even more lopsided if not for some fortunate bounces and penalty calls in the Bears' favor. The Rams went with a run-heavy game-plan against the Bears' pathetic Run D — racking up 258 yards — but Clemens stuck big throws when he needed to, notching three completions of 20-plus yards. Doing an excellent job of minding the store in Sam Bradford's absence, Clemens isn't going to rise above low-end QB2 status, but is doing a better job than anyone could have thought possible.

Kellen Clemens completed 9-of-16 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns in St. Louis' Week 10 win over the Colts.

Clemens had Tavon Austin to thank for his big day, as the rookie wideout turned his only two catches into 138 yards and two touchdowns. Otherwise, Clemens was called on to simply not lose the game. He spent the majority of the afternoon sticking the ball into Zac Stacy's chest, though he botched one handoff, getting credited with a lost fumble. It's quite possible the yardage will go down as a season high for the Rams' interim game manager. Clemens will be a low-end QB2 coming off the Rams' Week 11 bye.

Kellen Clemens completed 20-of-35 passes for 210 yards, a touchdown, and 16 yards rushing in the Rams' Week 9 loss to Tennessee.

He also lost a fumble and took a pair of Jurell Casey sacks. Clemens has a cleaner-looking throwing motion than Tim Tebow, but the results are ordinarily the same. Clemens is a scattershot passer who makes mistakes with bodies around him. He's a major downgrade from Sam Bradford. The Rams play the Colts next. Look for Clemens to make a third straight start.

Coach Jeff Fisher confirmed Kellen Clemens will start Sunday against the Titans.

Clemens was brutal in the Monday-night loss, completing just 15-of-31 passes for 158 yards and two interceptions. He was unarguably the worst player on the field and likely cost the Rams a chance to pull off the upset victory. The Rams still believe Clemens gives the team its best chance to win. They need to lean on the running game more moving forward. Austin Davis and Brady Quinn are the Nos. 2 and 3 quarterbacks. Davis has been in the system for a year-and-a-half. Clemens isn't an option in two-QB leagues.

Kellen Clemens completed 15-of-31 passes for 158 yards and two interceptions in Monday night's Week 8 loss to the Seahawks.

Making his first start of the season in place of Sam Bradford (torn ACL), Clemens was pitiful. His first interception wasn't entirely his fault. Jared Cook ran a clumsy route and looked disinterested the entire play, but it was still a poorly thrown ball. The second pick was an overthrow of Austin Pettis on a basic curl route. OC Brian Schottenheimer then put the ball in Clemens' hands on the final play of the game. On fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line with four seconds to play, Clemens threw a terrible fade to Brian Quick that fell hopelessly to the ground. Clemens also sees ghosts in the pocket. He's going to hurt the Rams more than he's going to help them down the stretch. It wouldn't be a surprise if Austin Davis eventually replaces Clemens under center. Clemens will get another start against the Titans next week. He's not an option in two-quarterback leagues.

QB Kellen Clemens will start for the Rams in Week 8.

Sam Bradford (ACL) is done for the year and the Rams aren't signing Tim Tebow. That leaves Clemens, a 30-year-old former second-round pick of the Jets in 2006. He's started 12 games in his career, going 191-of-367 (52.0 percent) for 2,200 yards with seven touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Clemens is highly unlikely to be able to sustain offense for the Rams, especially against the Seahawks' fearsome defense in Week 8. Even owners in two-quarterback leagues need to aim higher.

Rams re-signed QB Kellen Clemens to a one-year contract.

Clemens, 30 in June, appeared in two games last season, completing 1-of-3 passes with an interception and a fumble. Coach Jeff Fisher has already said second-year QB Austin Davis is entering training camp as the No. 2 to Sam Bradford. Clemens will battle for the No. 3 job, and he has experience in OC Brian Schottenheimer's offense.

Coach Jeff Fisher said if the Rams re-sign free agent QB Kellen Clemens, he'd be the third quarterback behind Austin Davis.

That likely means Clemens won't be returning to the Rams. Davis was signed as an undrafted free agent last season out of Southern Miss. He impressed many with his preseason work when he completed 22-of-34 passes for 220 yards.

Rams re-signed QB Kellen Clemens and waived DT Darell Scott.

The Rams apparently didn't want to guarantee Clemens' $700,000 salary by keeping him on the roster in Week 1. The veteran will presumably regain the backup role, with undrafted rookie Austin Davis sliding back to No. 3 on the depth chart.
