Bears agreed to terms with DTs John McCargo and DeMario Pressley on one-year contracts.
With Henry Melton, Matt Toeaina and Stephen Paea as the only experienced defensive tackles on the roster, the Bears have been looking for help on the interior. McCargo and Pressley were released by the Bucs and Panthers respectively after playing bit parts in 2011. Neither is a sure bet to make the final 53-man roster. Thu, May 10, 2012 10:53:00 PM

Bucs released DT John McCargo.

McCargo was placed on injured reserve late last season due to a triceps injury. The former No. 26 overall pick in the 2006 draft, McCargo has been one of the bigger first-round busts in recent memory.

Bucs placed DT John McCargo on injured reserve with a triceps injury, ending his season.

McCargo's triceps doesn't necessarily have to be torn to land on injured reserve this time of year, but it likely is. The No. 26 overall pick of the 2006 draft appeared in four games this season, notching five tackles. He's a poor bet to open 2012 on somebody's active roster.

Bucs re-signed DT John McCargo.

McCargo was waived last Wednesday after a one-day stay on the roster. The former first-round pick has appeared in just one game since the end of the 2009 season, and should be in for very limited snaps.

Bucs waived DT John McCargo.

He was just signed yesterday, but the Bucs are giving Albert Haynesworth a kick of the tires. McCargo will probably stay on speed dial in case Haynesworth either fails his physical or doesn't show desire to play over the next few days.

Bucs re-signed DT John McCargo.

The No. 26 overall in the 2006 draft will add depth up front with DT Gerald McCoy (torn biceps) done for the season.

Bucs released DT John McCargo.

McCargo had already earned a bust tag after being selected No. 26 overall in the 2006 draft. His release may be a sign that the Bucs are comfortable with Brian Price's (pelvis) health.

Buccaneers signed DT John McCargo.

Buffalo's 2006 first-round bust has struggled to stick on a roster over five inconsistent NFL seasons. He'll hope to catch on as a rotational lineman in Tampa Bay, though history is not on his side.

Bills placed DT John McCargo on season-ending injured reserve.

The 2006 first-round bust is unlikely to be back with the Bills in 2009 after another lost season and a failed trade with the Colts. He'll try to catch on as a rotational lineman elsewhere in hopes of reviving his career.

ESPN's John Clayton believes the Bills will release DT John McCargo shortly.

According to Clayton, Bills coaches took some public shots at McCargo so it would be uncomfortable to accept the black sheep back into the fold. Perhaps McCargo will end up with the Colts after all, without Indy having to surrender a fourth-round pick.

Profootballtalk.com reports that DT John McCargo failed his physical with the Colts and will return to the Bills after Indianapolis tried to acquire him for a fourth-round pick Tuesday. ESPN has since confirmed the news.

McCargo has a bulging disc in his back. He was on the injury report early this season with a back issue. The Colts will resume playing linebackers at DT and pose a good matchup for opposing runners. At least they get their pick back. McCargo will return to the basement of Buffalo's depth chart.

NFL Network's Adam Shefter reports the Bills traded DL John McCargo to the Colts in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick Tuesday.

The Bills took a lot of criticism when they traded up in the first round to draft McCargo back in 2006. It turns out the criticism was warranted as McCargo has been alternately injured, unimpressive, and overweight in Buffalo. He's still young, though, and he'll add much-needed size along the Colts' defensive line.

Bills DT John McCargo was a healthy scratch in Week 1.

McCargo's desire is being called into question, and the Bills appear to be trying to get his attention.

Bills DT John McCargo was fined in the spring for being overweight, but reported to training camp on time and in shape.

The No. 26 overall pick from the 2006 draft hasn't had a stellar career thus far, but should have every opportunity to start at the three technique next to Marcus Stroud. McCargo's competition is Kyle Williams and Spencer Johnson.

Bills DT John McCargo will move into the starting lineup this season.

The '06 first-round pick is healthy again and will team up with Marcus Stroud inside, with Spencer Johnson, Jason Jefferson, and Kyle Williams coming off the bench. McCargo had 29 stops, three sacks, and a forced fumble in 2007.
