Bills OLB Manny Lawson expects the defense "to dictate what an offense does" this season.
"Instead of trying to mold our defense around the opposing offense we’re going to play our style of defense," Lawson said. "We’re going to make the opponent game plan to stop our attack." These words sound like they came straight out of Rex Ryan's mouth. After some locker-room turmoil last season, it sounds like the Bills have bought in on Rex's vision this year. It remains to be seen if the new style will yield better results on the field. Jun 6 - 11:37 AM

Joe Buscaglia of WKBW Buffalo expects Manny Lawson to get the first shot at replacing rookie Shaq Lawson (shoulder) at outside linebacker.

Shaq underwent shoulder surgery on Tuesday and will likely open the season on reserve/PUP. That leaves Manny as the favorite to start opposite Jerry Hughes at outside linebacker. Manny is more of a coverage specialist and edge setter. Losing Shaq is a big blow to the potential of Buffalo's outside pass rush.

Bills OLB Manny Lawson is expected to have an increased role this season.

Lawson was limited to 349 snaps in DC Jim Schwartz’s scheme last year. He should get back around the 700-snap mark under Rex Ryan. Lawson projects to play the strong side in 3-4 fronts and back up Jerry Hughes in nickel packages.

Bills DE/OLB Manny Lawson is expected to get the majority of his snaps at strong-side linebacker.

Lawson is a candidate for an expanded role with Buffalo moving to more 3-4 fronts under Rex Ryan. He should back up Jerry Hughes at one of the edge spots, with most of his snaps coming as a sub-package linebacker. Lawson had 73 tackles and four sacks as a 15-game starter in 2013.

The Bills plan to move Manny Lawson back to strong-side linebacker.

Lawson played 4-3 end in Jim Schwartz's scheme last year. He saw limited snaps behind Jerry Hughes, but is expected to have an increased role with Buffalo moving to more 3-4 fronts. Lawson had one of his best seasons under former DC Mike Pettine in 2013, grading out as PFF's top linebacker in coverage. Mario Williams will also see time off the line of scrimmage in Rex Ryan's defense.

Bills DE/OLB Manny Lawson is expected to see a bigger role in 2015.

Lawson was reduced to a situational role in Jim Schwartz's 4-3 last year. He was one of the best cover linebackers in the league in 2013, and should see his role increased with Buffalo moving to more 3-4 fronts under Rex Ryan. Lawson will likely get the majority of his snaps on the strong side, opposite WLB Kiko Alonso.

Bills SLB Manny Lawson is moving to defensive end this season.

There were rumors Lawson was switching to end in Jim Schwartz's 4-3, but this is the first time the Bills confirmed it. Lawson will compete with Jerry Hughes for snaps opposite Mario Williams. It's worth noting Lawson played defensive end in college, opposite Mario at NC State. Rookie Preston Brown, Ty Powell, and Keith Rivers are candidates to replace Lawson on the strong side.

The Bills' website considers SLB Manny Lawson a candidate to move to defensive end this season.

Lawson graded out as the top cover linebacker in the league last year by Pro Football Focus, so it's a questionable fit even with the Bills moving to a 4-3. Barring an upgrade in the draft, Lawson should remain at strong-side linebacker. Jerry Hughes is expected to see the majority of snaps opposite Mario Williams.

The Bills plan to play Manny Lawson at strong-side linebacker.

Strong-side linebackers often match up with tight ends in pass coverage, and the Bills are hoping Lawson can be their answer for division rival Rob Gronkowski. Lawson goes 6-foot-6, 240 and ran a 4.43 forty time coming out of NC State.

Bills agreed to terms on a four-year contract with OLB Manny Lawson, formerly of the Bengals.

Lawson was a part-time player in Cincy as he fell behind Vontaze Burfict and Emmanuel Lamur. In Buffalo, he shouldn't have trouble pushing for snaps as a strong-side pass rusher. Lawson has the versatility to play in multiple schemes.

The Cincinnati Enquirer expects the Bengals to move on from free agent SLB Manny Lawson.

Going on 29, Lawson was a part-time player last season, and wasn't terribly productive when he did take the field. With the emergence of Vontaze Burfict and Emmanuel Lamur, the Bengals shouldn't hesitate to let Lawson walk.

Bengals DC Mike Zimmer plans to use recently re-signed SLB Manny Lawson more as a pass rusher in 2012.

Lawson was used almost exclusively in run support and coverage his first season in Cincinnati. "He moved to essentially a different position with us, playing outside in a 4-3 (scheme) after being in a 3-4, and he kept getting better as the year went on," Zimmer said. "He was very good against the run and in coverage, and this year I think we can take better advantage of him as a pass rusher." Lawson has 16.5 sacks in 80 career games.

Bengals re-signed SLB Manny Lawson to a one-year contract.

Lawson will retain his starting job on the strong side, with Thomas Howard at weak-side 'backer and Rey Maualuga in the middle. Look for the Bengals to dangle Keith Rivers for trade, if they can. Lawson, 28 before the season, started every game last season but was often spelled by Brandon Johnson. Lawson will likely become more of a full-time player in his second year with Mike Zimmer.

Free agent OLB Manny Lawson is telling teammates that he has agreed to terms with the Bengals.

Lawson drew light interest from the Packers, Colts, and Raiders, but not enough to be lured away from the Queen City. An early-down strong-side linebacker with little pass-rushing ability, Lawson is an asset in coverage and run support.
Wed, Mar 28, 2012 08:43:00 AM reports free agent OLB Manny Lawson is expected to re-sign with the Bengals, but that no deal has been finalized.

Coach Marvin Lewis said Sunday the Bengals hoped to re-sign Lawson. He has supposedly been drawing interest from a number of teams, but isn't known to have made any visits since the beginning of free agency. He should officially re-up with Cincinnati sometime in the next 48 hours.
