Bengals agreed to terms with S Danieal Manning on a one-year contract.

Manning declined to take a pay cut from the Texans, so he was cut on Monday. Just three days later, he lands in a spot where he'll be a third safety behind Reggie Nelson and George Iloka while also getting some slot corner reps. Manning will turn 31 in August and is coming off a fractured leg, but brings versatile upside when healthy. The Chiefs were also interested.

The Colts are not currently interested in free agent S Danieal Manning.

Indy has a hole at free safety after losing Antoine Bethea to the 49ers in free agency. But for now, it looks like they'll go the value route with in-house options Delano Howell and Sergio Brown competing with a draft pick. Manning had visits with the Bengals and Chiefs this week.

Free agent S Danieal Manning will visit the Chiefs on Thursday.

That's if he escapes his Wednesday visit with the Bengals without a contract. The Chiefs are in the market for a safety next to Eric Berry after letting Kendrick Lewis walk in free agency to the Texans. Manning will turn 31 in August.
Apr 1 - 1:10 PM

Free agent S Danieal Manning will visit the Bengals on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Bengals could look at Manning to fill the old Chris Crocker role as a third safety and possible reserve slot corner. Cincinnati's starting safeties, Reggie Nelson and George Iloka, are both coming off solid 2013 seasons. Manning hasn't had a standout year since 2011, but has been limited by injuries.
Apr 1 - 3:35 AM

Texans released S Danieal Manning.

An erroneous report last week claimed Manning reworked his contract. He wouldn't reduce his $4.5 million base salary, so Houston cut ties. Going on 32 and coming off a fractured right fibula, Manning was already not assured of a return. We suspect Houston's Week 1 starting safeties will be FS Chris Clemons and SS D.J. Swearinger, with ex-Chiefs FS Kendrick Lewis in the third-safety role.
Mar 31 - 1:11 PM

Texans SS Danieal Manning has reworked his contract and will remain with the team.

Manning was set to count $6 million against the cap and was mentioned as a possible cut. It's unclear if he restructured his deal or took a pay cut, but it's likely the latter considering Manning only has one year left on his deal. He'll compete with Shiloh Keo and D.J. Swearinger for safety duties and play special teams.
Mar 28 - 10:38 AM

Texans SS Danieal Manning (leg) says he's "way ahead of schedule" in his rehab.

Manning suffered a fractured right fibula in October and was given a 6-8 week timetable for recovery, so he should be ready in plenty of time for the offseason program. Manning, Shiloh Keo, and D.J. Swearinger will compete for the two starting safety spots. Manning has a $6 million cap figure.
Mar 18 - 1:58 PM

The Houston Chronicle believes Texans S Danieal Manning could be a salary cap casualty.

Manning has a $6 million cap number in the final year of his deal. He ended the season on injured reserve with a fractured right fibula. Shiloh Keo and D.J. Swearinger filled in decently at safety after Manning was shelved and Ed Reed was released. Keo and Swearinger could be the 2014 starting duo. Manning will turn 32 before the start of the 2014 season.
Jan 1 - 5:38 PM

Texans placed SS Danieal Manning on injured reserve with a fractured right fibula, ending his season.

Manning suffered a hairline fracture in last Sunday's loss to the Rams. He was given a 6-8 week recovery timetable, but the Texans are just shelving Manning for the season. Shiloh Keo will fill in next to Ed Reed. Rookie D.J. Swearinger will be the No. 3 safety. Manning is signed through 2014 at $4.5 million. The Texans also placed rookie CB A.J. Bouye on injured reserve Wednesday.

Texans SS Danieal Manning will miss 6-8 weeks with a hairline fracture of his right fibula.

The initial diagnosis was a knee hyperextension, but Monday's MRI revealed more significant damage. It's a huge blow to an underachieving Texans defense that was already getting pummeled by opponents despite its "No. 1 overall" yardage ranking entering Week 6. Manning, a coverage maven, figures to be replaced by rookie D.J. Swearinger. The Texans are reeling at 2-4 entering a Week 7 road date at Arrowhead. The bottom is falling out.

The Texans will use Danieal Manning "in the box" more as a run defender and in tight end coverage after Glover Quin's departure.

Ed Reed will be Houston's deep centerfield safety, while Manning plays closer to the line of scrimmage. At the position Manning will now play, Quin managed only 84 tackles last season, but broke up 14 passes, intercepted two, and forced two fumbles. Manning only had eight breakups and 77 tackles in the same number of starts. He'll offer more IDP upside moving from free to strong safety.

Texans FS Danieal Manning drew rave reviews from his coaches during OTAs.

"Tremendous player," DC Wade Phillips said. "Coaching-wise, when you see a guy play like he plays and practice like he practices, you realize how good they really are and how important they really are. He plays faster than everybody else. I’m talking about everybody else that I see play safety." Manning missed three games last season, but still finished fourth on the team in tackles.

Texans FS Danieal Manning (leg) is expected to play against the Jaguars Sunday.

Manning's return is a major boost to a defense that is already ranked second in the league in points against per game. They'll be a recommended fantasy play against uncomfortable rookie Blaine Gabbert and the Jaguars Sunday.

Texans FS Danieal Manning (leg) practiced on Monday for the first time since breaking his leg in Week 7.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Manning could start against the Jaguars. Manning was given a 4-6 week recovery timetable, but returning this Sunday would still be a best-case scenario. If he practices Wednesday, how he feels on Thursday could go a long way toward determining if he suits up for Week 12.
