Steelers released WR Shaun McDonald.
The Steelers never planned on using the veteran receiver unless injuries struck. He was way behind Mike Wallace and Limas Sweed ever since training camp. It's unlikely McDonald will get any bites around the league as the slot receiver has never done much without Mike Martz. Sat, Nov 28, 2009 02:14:00 PM

Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said WR Shaun McDonald probably won't dress for games.

McDonald made the team, but it's not looking like he'll make the 45-man gameday roster right now. Limas Sweed and Mike Wallace will back up Santonio Holmes and Hines Ward.

Shaun McDonald is expected to make the Steelers only if they keep five receivers in addition to return specialist Stefan Logan.

Logan has made the team and is considered strictly a wide receiver instead of a running back. Limas Sweed and Mike Wallace are locks as the fourth and fifth receivers, so McDonald's roster spot is in jeopardy.

Veteran WR Shaun McDonald is also getting a look from the Steelers as a punt returner.

The smallish McDonald is going to have trouble making the team as strictly a receiver. He did have 943 receiving yards in 2007 but that was under Mike Martz. Limas Sweed and Mike Wallace are still ahead of McDonald on the receiver depth chart.

Steelers signed WR Shaun McDonald, formerly of the Lions.

McDonald, 28, has never produced outside of a Mike Martz offense and isn't a great bet to make the Steelers. Rookie Mike Wallace cost a high draft pick and is faster. McDonald isn't bumping Limas Sweed off the roster.

Lions placed WR Shaun McDonald (ankle) on injured reserve, ending his season.

McDonald finishes a disappointing season with 35 receptions for 332 yards after posting career highs of 79 and 943 in 2007. The slot receiver is a free agent after the season, but his fantasy relevance hinges solely on a reunion with Mike Martz.

Shaun McDonald (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 15.

Detroit will rotate John Standeford and Keary Colbert opposite Calvin Johnson against the Colts. The Lions don't figure to score much on Sunday.

Shaun McDonald (ankle) was held out of Lions practice Thursday.

John Standeford may have to start again in Week 15. It's hard to imagine Detroit generating much offense with Dan Orlovsky at QB and McDonald out.

Shaun McDonald (ankle) returned to individual drills at Lions practice Wednesday. Officially, he had "limited" participation.

The Lions missed him badly in Week 14, with John Standeford managing only one catch for five yards in McDonald's place. Calvin Johnson was also double teamed all game. McDonald is still no lock to play against the Colts.

Lions declared WR Shaun McDonald, third QB Drew Stanton, QB Dan Orlovsky, CB Keith Smith, LB Alex Lewis, G Manny Ramirez, G Damion Cook, and DE Dewayne White inactive for Week 14.

John Standeford and Keary Colbert will have to play opposite Calvin Johnson on Sunday. The Vikings' fantasy defense is a very strong play.

Lions beat writer Tom Kowalski confirms that Shaun McDonald (ankle) will be a game-time decision in Week 14.

If he can't go, John Standeford will make his first NFL start and street free agent pickup Keary Colbert will be the Lions' third receiver. Get the Vikings' fantasy defense going. Daunte Culpepper is setup to struggle.

Shaun McDonald (questionable, ankle) missed Lions practice for a second consecutive day Friday.

McDonald will be a game-time decision against the Vikings. If he is unable to play, John Standeford will start. Standeford has been in the league for years, but has never been a productive pro. Calvin Johnson will be easy for the Vikings to double team if McDonald isn't on the field.

Shaun McDonald (ankle) was held out of Lions practice Thursday.

McDonald isn't a fantasy playoffs-caliber WR3 or flex play, but he is uncertain to he ready for Week 14 after being limited in Wednesday's practice. That's a downgrade in participation. John Standeford is next up to start.

Shaun McDonald (ankle) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

McDonald will still be starting Sunday against the Vikings.

Shaun McDonald caught four balls for 44 yards in the Lions' Week 13 loss.

At least he's efficient. McDonald, who is playing full time with Mike Furrey (concussion) still sidelined, hauled in all four of his targets. He is worth consideration as a WR3, but only in the friendliest of matchups.
