Chargers re-signed CB Richard Marshall to a one-year contract.
Marshall, 29, appeared in all 16 games for the Bolts last season, starting the final six and the two playoff games. He's a burn victim in coverage but isn't afraid to get his nose dirty in the run game at 5-foot-11, 198 pounds. GM Tom Telesco is trying to piece a cornerback depth chart together. Ideally, Marshall is a No. 3 or 4. The journeyman also has experience at safety. Mar 14 - 9:12 AM

Chargers signed DB Richard Marshall to a one-year contract.

Marshall has a Ken Whisenhunt connection, playing on Whiz's 2011 Arizona team and enjoying his best NFL season. Whisenhunt now calls San Diego's offensive plays. 28 years old, Marshall can play both corner and safety but is likely to play far more of the former position with the Bolts. Look for Marshall to unseat Johnny Patrick at nickel back behind Derek Cox and Shareece Wright.

The Jaguars hosted free agent DB Richard Marshall on Friday.

Marshall could be a candidate to start in Jacksonville, upgrading on Alan Ball opposite rookie Dwayne Gratz. Marshall can also play slot corner and safety. Per PFT's Mike Florio, the Chargers "remain in the mix" to sign Marshall.

Free agent CB Richard Marshall is visiting the Chargers on Thursday.

Marshall, 28, was released by the Dolphins on Tuesday. The Bolts have one of the shallowest cornerback depth charts in the league, so Marshall would be a welcomed addition as a potential nickel back in San Diego. The Chargers lost fifth-round CB Steve Williams to a torn pectoral last week.

Dolphins released CB Richard Marshall.

Another cog of GM Jeff Ireland's two-year masterplan down the drain. The move clears $4.55 million in salary. Overpaid to the tune of a three-year, $16 million contract in 2012, Marshall was limited to four games by a back injury; four games for which he "earned" $6 million. Marshall is hard-nosed and versatile, but was miscast as an outside starter. Ireland's admission of defeat is made more stunning by the fact that he has no clear alternative opposite Brent Grimes. Perhaps Ireland is ready to throw second-rounder Jamar Taylor into the fire, but career slot-man Dimitri Patterson is the best bet. Marshall could easily surface in Cleveland with Ray Horton, under whom he had his best NFL season in 2011. Marshall, 28, can play both safety and corner.

Dolphins RCB Richard Marshall has "moved past" his 2012 back problems and is fully expected to open the season as a starter.

Marshall and LCB Brent Grimes are markered in as Miami's Week 1 bookend corners. Rookies Jamar Taylor and Will Davis, along with veteran Dimitri Patterson, will push Nolan Carroll at nickel back. Marshall had back surgery last November to repair two ruptured disks. When healthy, he's a versatile if inconsistent cover man capable of covering the slot and playing some safety.

Richard Marshall will battle rookie Jamar Taylor for the starting corner job opposite Brent Grimes.

Marshall's roster spot won't be safe if he loses out to Taylor. He's coming off back surgery and is owed $4.55 million in base salary. However, the Dolphins may be forced to keep Marshall if Grimes can't return to form right away. He tore his Achilles' tendon in Week 1 last season.

Dolphins CB Richard Marshall says his surgically repaired back has healed enough that he could play in a game today.

The Fins may hold Marshall out of early-offseason workouts as a precaution, but it sounds like he's pretty close to 100 percent. Marshall is currently the top corner on Miami's roster signed for 2013, as Sean Smith is a free agent. Expect Marshall to open the season as a starter barring something unforeseen.

The Miami Herald suggests Dolphins CB Richard Marshall is a candidate for offseason release.

The Fins signed Marshall to a three-year, $16 million deal last offseason, but he struggled in coverage before rupturing two disks in his back in late September. The repair required a "daylong" surgery. Marshall is owed $4.55 million in 2013, and cutting him would save $3.02 million under the salary cap.

Dolphins CB Richard Marshall (back surgery) has begun to rehab.

Marshall underwent a "daylong" procedure in November to repair two ruptured disks. He's yet to be cleared to run, but "if all goes well," he'll be ready for OTAs. Signed through 2014, Marshall was shaky as he played through injury this season, and is unlikely to be guaranteed a starting job next summer.

Dolphins placed CB Richard Marshall (back) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Marshall showed promise in early in the season after the Dolphins cut bait with Vontae Davis and handed him the starting job, but he hasn't seen the field since Week 4. He will undergo surgery on Friday. Nolan Carroll will likely remain the starter at RCB going forward.

Dolphins declared CB Richard Marshall, LB Josh Kaddu, S Anderson Russell, OT Will Yeatman, DT Tony McDaniel, TE Michael Egnew, and QB Pat Devlin inactive for Week 9 at Indianapolis.

Marshall (back) and McDaniel (knee) aren't quite ready to return, though they could be aiming for Week 10. McDaniel was walking with an obvious limp in pregame drills. Nolan Carroll will continue to start for Marshall.

Dolphins declared CB Richard Marshall (back) inactive for Week 8.

Marshall hasn't played since Week 4. Nolan Carroll will continue to start, with Jimmy Wilson in the nickel role. The rest of the Dolphins inactives are QB Pat Devlin, LB Josh Kaddu, WR Rishard Matthews, OL Will Yeatman, TE Michael Egnew, and WR Anthony Armstrong. Jabar Gaffney is active and making his Dolphins debut.

Dolphins CB Richard Marshall has reportedly been ruled out for Week 8 versus the Jets.

Marshall expected to return coming off the bye week, but he's going to have to wait at least another week. Nolan Carroll will continue to start, with Jimmy Wilson in the nickel role.

Dolphins CB Richard Marshall (back) expects to play when the Dolphins come out of their bye in Week 8.

Marshall's back pain has been so severe that he's been on crutches. He expects to get into a hyperbaric chamber this week and get the back loose enough to play. Replacement Nolan Carroll has fared well in Marshall's two-game absence.
