Seahawks re-signed QB Tarvaris Jackson.
T-Jax returns as Russell Wilson's backup. Going on 31, Jackson has attempted only 13 passes since the end of the 2011 season, but has plenty of experience in Pete Carroll's offense. A new deal made sense for both sides. Thu, Mar 13, 2014 01:22:00 AM

Profootballtalk reports the Seahawks and free agent Tarvaris Jackson have mutual interest in a new contract.

T-Jax attempted only 13 passes in 2013, but has found a niche as Russell Wilson's backup. Jackson has dialed up over 1,000 career passes, and is still only 31 (in April). A new deal makes sense for both sides.

The Seattle Times considers Tarvaris Jackson the favorite to back up Russell Wilson over Brady Quinn.

As do we. Quinn's draft pedigree is the only reason he's still in the league, while Jackson started 14 games for Seattle and coach Pete Carroll in 2011. Even for a reserve, Quinn is overmatched as an NFL quarterback. T-Jax's skill-set is much more closely aligned with Wilson's.

Seahawks signed QB Tarvaris Jackson, formerly of the Bills, to a one-year contract.

T-Jack was released by the Bills just three days ago, so it didn't take long for him to land back on his feet. Jackson didn't take a single snap with the Bills last season, but he started 14 games for the Seahawks in 2011. He'll compete with Brady Quinn for No. 2 duties, but we'd consider Jackson the favorite. He gives Seattle a backup with a similar skill set to starter Russell Wilson.

The Seahawks are expected to sign free agent QB Tarvaris Jackson to a one-year contract.

Jackson lands on his feet just two days after getting released by the Bills. He's an ideal fit in Seattle, where he served as the team captain in 2011 and posted a 7-7 record as a starter. Jackson will quickly slide back into the Darrell Bevell system he's spent six years in and will almost certainly beat out Brady Quinn for backup duties. In 34 career starts, T-Jack has gone 17-17 while averaging 176.6 yards per game with 32 touchdowns against 30 interceptions. A strong athlete, he's capable of replicating some of the read option starter Russell Wilson runs.

Citing two sources, ESPN's John Clayton reports free agent Tarvaris Jackson will head to Seattle "in the next day or two" to "possibly" sign a contract with the Seahawks.

Clayton writes that "it's not known" how a Jackson signing would affect current Russell Wilson backup Brady Quinn, but we have a pretty good feeling T-Jack would beat out Quinn for the No. 2 job. Jackson was the Seahawks' starter in 2011 and earned the respect of teammates for playing hurt. He'd be an excellent addition as a backup and is very familiar with OC Darrell Bevell.

ESPN's John Clayton believes "it's possible" the Seahawks sign free agent Tarvaris Jackson.

Clayton might just be guessing — he often does — but is based in Seattle, and it makes sense on paper. Jackson was the Seahawks' primary starter in 2011, and he'd be an upgrade on current backup Brady Quinn. Quinn lacks the talent for any system, but particularly Seattle's burgeoning read-option behemoth.

Bills released QB Tarvaris Jackson.

The Bills start minicamp Tuesday, so they obviously want Kevin Kolb and rookie E.J. Manuel taking all the reps. Jackson took the first snap from center at OTAs, but was never a realistic option to start. Jackson was re-signed to a one-year, $2.25 million contract in February, but only $500,000 of it was guaranteed. He becomes the best quarterback on the free-agent market. A Seattle reunion would make a ton of sense if "T-Jack" is willing to back up Russell Wilson.

Tarvaris Jackson got the first snaps as the Bills opened OTAs Monday.

Kevin Kolb was the second man through the rotation and first-round rookie E.J. Manuel was third. It's clearly not worth reading into. Jackson is the "incumbent" as he was in Buffalo last year and Kolb is the veteran. Before long, this will be a two-man duel, with Jackson serving as an innocent bystander. The Bills are undoubtedly hoping the raw Manuel steps up and seizes the job.

The Buffalo News says it won't be easy for Tarvaris Jackson to rise above the No. 3 quarterback this season.

When Jackson signed a one-year deal with the Bills in February, he was convinced that he'd get a legit chance to compete for the starting gig. But now that Kevin Kolb is in town and the Bills plan to spend an early draft pick on a quarterback, he's on his way to being buried once again. T-Jack hasn't started a game since going 7-7 with the Seahawks in 2011.

Tarvaris Jackson is penciled in as the Bills' starting quarterback right now.

After releasing Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Bills are left with Jackson and Aaron Corp at quarterback. Considering Jackson couldn't even rise above Tyler Thigpen on the depth chart last year, it's a major concern. Expect the Bills to add competition early in the draft and/or via free agency. As GM Buddy nix said in a secretly recorded phone call this week, "We gotta get one somehow. Bad time to need it."

Tarvaris Jackson's one-year deal with the Bills has a base value of $1.75 million with only $500,000 guaranteed.

It's a far cry from the originally-reported $4.5 million. T-Jack can make $4.5 million if he hits all playing-time incentives, but he could also be cut before the season and Buffalo would only be on the hook for $500K. Jackson's base salary is $1.25 million. It's the contract of a second- or third-string quarterback.

Bills re-signed QB Tarvaris Jackson to a one-year contract with a maximum value of $4.5 million.

According to coach Doug Marrone, there will be an "open competition" between Jackson and Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting job. It could just be lip service, but reliable beat writer Joe Buscaglia wondered aloud on Twitter if T-Jax's return is the "beginning of the end for Ryan Fitzpatrick." It's quite possible a third quarterback will be added in the early rounds of the draft. In theory, Jackson is a better fit for the run-heavy system Marrone preferred at Syracuse. The Bills have made it clear the job won't be handed to Fitzpatrick, who's been far too inconsistent since signing a seven-year, $62.2 million deal in October 2011.

Bills declared QB Tarvaris Jackson, WR Kevin Elliott, S Da'Norris Searcy, OL Kyle Williams, DL Jay Ross, OL Chris Scott, and DE Mark Anderson inactive for Week 17 against the Jets.

Buffalo oddly gave up a draft pick for Jackson during the offseason and never even elevated him to No. 2 on the depth chart. He spent the entire season as the Bills' third-stringer behind Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tyler Thigpen. Jackson, who turns 30 in April, is now scheduled for unrestricted free agency.

Bills QB Tarvaris Jackson believes he got a raw deal in Seattle this past offseason.

"When they already had Matt (Flynn) and they drafted Russell (Wilson), I figured I'd be the odd man out," said Jackson. "They were kind of screwing me around. They had their plan the whole time, either Russell or Matt. It was obvious when we got to camp, especially in preseason when I didn't play." A healthy scratch all season, Jackson is a free agent in 2013.
