Seahawks coach Pete Carroll hopes to re-sign free agent Tarvaris Jackson.
"We really liked his contributions and he’s been a big factor for us and we would like to have him back if we could,’’ said Carroll. Right now, Phillip Sims is the only quarterback on Seattle's roster besides Russell Wilson. Jackson said he hasn't ruled out re-signing with the Seahawks and there's a good chance he'll be back for his fifth year in Seattle. The Seahawks will probably look for a quarterback in the draft if Jackson signs elsewhere. Mar 27 - 11:45 AM

Free agent Tarvaris Jackson hasn’t ruled out returning to Seattle.

Jackson will test the open market, but could end up behind Russell Wilson for the fourth straight year. Even in a weak quarterback class, Jackson will be limited to backup-caliber offers.

ESPN 710 Seattle's Jessamyn McIntyre reports impending free agent QB Tarvaris Jackson will test the open market.

McIntyre reports there was a "strong market" last season for Jackson, who took less money to come back to the Seahawks. Jackson has had several stints as a starter throughout his career, but he has proven to be a backup-level player. He has not started a game since 2011. Going on 33, continuing to hold the clipboard for Russell Wilson will likely be his best available option.

Seahawks QB Tarvaris Jackson (ankle) is expected to be back for the regular season opener.

"He’s making pretty good progress," coach Pete Carroll said. "We’re really shooting for the opener right now at this point with him and think he’ll make that." Jackson suffered a high-ankle sprain in the preseason opener.

Tarvaris Jackson has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain.

They're typically 4-6 week injuries. The Seahawks are left with only R.J. Archer behind Russell Wilson and will likely have to sign another arm to get through camp. Former backup QB B.J. Daniels has converted to wide receiver.

Updating a previous item, Seahawks QB Tarvaris Jackson suffered a sprained ankle in the preseason opener.

Coach Pete Carroll confirmed the ankle was not broken, but conceded "it's going to be a little bit" before Jackson returns. Considering Jackson had to be carted off the field, a sprained ankle is a good result. R.J. Archer will fill in as Russell Wilson's backup while Jackson is down.

Tarvaris Jackson was carted off the field with an ankle injury in Friday night's preseason opener.

Jackson got his leg rolled up at the end of a play. He did give a thumbs-up sign to the home crowd while on the cart, but could put very little weight on his ankle following the injury. T-Jack is Russell Wilson's top backup.

Seahawks re-signed QB Tarvaris Jackson to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.

The two sides had been playing hardball back and forth recently, but T-Jack will be back as the backup to Russell Wilson. He'll face no competition for the job.

The Seahawks' offers to free agent Tarvaris Jackson have been too low for the quarterback's taste so far.

The Seahawks currently only have R.J. Archer behind Russell Wilson, so Jackson has some leverage here thanks to need. ESPN's John Clayton suggests Michael Vick could also be a target, but Vick and Jackson are represented by the same agent. That would complicate any kind of bidding war.

The Seahawks remain interested in free agent Tarvaris Jackson.

With only R.J. Archer behind Russell Wilson, the Seahawks need to add a quarterback. Jackson has been Seattle’s backup the last two seasons and should eventually be re-signed.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says the team is still working on re-signing free agent Tarvaris Jackson.

Russell Wilson's backup each of the past two seasons, Jackson visited the Dolphins before they re-signed Matt Moore. It would be surprising if he didn't end up back in Seattle.

Coach Pete Carroll expects Seattle to re-sign free agent Tarvaris Jackson.

"I think we'll still get that done," Carroll said. Jackson was passed up by the Dolphins and Minnesota, leaving a return to Seattle his most likely landing spot. Jackson should back up Russell Wilson for a third straight season.

Free agent QB Tarvaris Jackson will visit the Dolphins on Thursday.

It's a sign the Dolphins could be ready to move on from Matt Moore, who is seeking $4 million annually. Jackson only threw one pass in Seattle last season while backing up Russell Wilson. Jackson drew interest from the Vikings and Eagles earlier this offseason, but those teams seem to be off the table.

Coach Pete Carroll said the Seahawks are in talks with free agent QB Tarvaris Jackson.

Jackson has spent the last two years backing up Russell Wilson. With the Eagles re-signing Mark Sanchez and Shaun Hill landing in Minnesota, 32-year-old Jackson could end up in Seattle for a third season.

CSNPhilly's Geoff Mosher reports the Eagles have discussed bringing in free agent QB Tarvaris Jackson.

A gifted athlete, Jackson would seem to be a better fit for Chip Kelly's offense than last season's backup Mark Sanchez. The Eagles are also reportedly interested in bringing back Sanchez, however, and Jackson has expressed interest in returning to Minnesota. The Eagles quarterback situation is as muddled as they come entering free agency.
