Free agent LBs Chris Gocong and Gerald McRath will try out with the Eagles at rookie minicamp this weekend.
Gocong, 29, and McRath, 26, haven't drawn an ounce of interest in free agency. Gocong tore his Achilles' last season and just started running in February, while McRath missed the entire 2012 season with a torn left patella tendon. The Eagles have depth at linebacker, but maybe one of the two veterans will impress. May 9 - 2:00 PM

Browns released LB Chris Gocong and S Usama Young.

Coming off a torn right Achilles' tendon, Gocong was owed an untenable $4.55 million in salary and a workout bonus. Transitioning to a 3-4 defense, he was clearly never a part of the Browns' plans. Gocong is 29 and should be recovered from the Achilles' tear soon seeing as it occurred early last August. He figures to receive minimum-salary contract offers. Young struggled as an 11-game starter in 2012. The Browns need a new starting free safety.

Browns OLB Chris Gocong's (Achilles') rehab is "on target," and he's started running.

Coach Rob Chudzinski says he wasn't sure if Gocong would be ready for OTAs, but he's fully expected to be good for training camp. Gocong is due a $4.45 million salary with a $100,000 workout bonus, and could be asked to take a pay cut.
Feb 22 - 1:47 PM

The Browns are expected to ask OLB Chris Gocong to slash his $4.45 million base salary.

He's also due a $100K workout bonus. Gocong, 29, is a questionable fit for new coordinator Ray Horton's 3-4 defense, and he has a bloated base salary coming off of a torn Achilles'. If he doesn't accept the pay-cut proposal, the Browns probably wouldn't think twice about cutting ties with Gocong for good.
Feb 10 - 3:52 PM

Browns OLB Chris Gocong (Achilles) is expected to be ready for training camp.

Gocong ruptured his Achilles' tendon a month before the 2012 season started. Owed $4.45 million in 2013 base salary, he'll have to prove his health and effectiveness to a new regime in order to stay on board. Gocong fits best as a 4-3 weak-side linebacker that gets after the quarterback on passing downs.
Jan 29 - 10:46 AM

Browns WLB Chris Gocong has been diagnosed with a ruptured right Achilles' tendon, and is done for the season.

He'll undergo surgery next week. A 16-game starter each of the past two years in Cleveland, Gocong notched 70 tackles, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles last season. With SLB Scott Fujita suspended for the first three games of the year, Kaluka Maiava and fourth-round pick James-Michael Johnson will serve as the Browns' starting outside linebackers for at least three weeks. GM Tom Heckert will certainly be on the lookout for veteran help.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns "fear" WLB Chris Gocong has suffered a ruptured right Achilles' tendon.

Gocong will undergo a Saturday afternoon MRI to confirm the injury, but it sounds like his season is over. As is typical with Achilles' injuries, Gocong went down on a non-contact play. The injury means the Browns will be forced to turn to fourth-round pick James-Michael Johnson on the weak-side, though Kaluka Maiava could be in the mix once SLB Scott Fujita returns from his three-game suspension. Gocong has missed just one game the past five seasons.

Browns WLB Chris Gocong was carted off with a right leg injury in Saturday's practice.

We typically wait for more details before passing along camp injuries, but the consensus among Browns beat writers is that Gocong's injury is serious. ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi speculates it's an Achilles issue. We'll know more soon, but it sounds like Cleveland's weak-side linebacker is dealing with a possibly season-ending injury.

Browns WLB Chris Gocong has been diagnosed with a neck stinger.

Gocong missed the entire exhibition season due to a similar injury, leading to concern here. Kaluka Maiava figures to take over on the weak side.

Browns WLB Chris Gocong was unable to finish Sunday's loss to the 49ers due to a shoulder injury.

Gocong had a season-high five tackles before leaving. Kaluka Maiava was forced into action once again.

Browns signed WLB Chris Gocong to a three-year, $16.8 million extension through 2014.

A former defensive end at little known Cal-Poly, Gocong has morphed from college pass rusher into 4-3 weak-side linebacker with Cleveland. Gocong, 27, only has nine tackles through three games, but his run defense has been stellar and was last season as well. He's just not on the IDP radar anymore.

Browns WLB Chris Gocong (neck) returned to practice Wednesday.

This was the team's plan all along. Gocong missed much of camp and preseason, but the Browns took necessary precautions before bringing him back from a painful stinger. He should get the start over Kaluka Maiava Sunday.

Browns WLB Chris Gocong's neck stinger may be more serious than originally thought.

Stingers generally leave a player day-to-day. Gocong is hoping to practice next week, but the goal is to be ready for the season opener. He's almost certainly done for the rest of the preseason schedule.

Chris Gocong is working as the Browns' starting weak-side linebacker in camp.

Gocong isn't in the middle as beat writers projected over the spring. D'Qwell Jackson will be the favorite to lead the team in tackles, but it's smart for the Browns to keep Gocong in the starting lineup nonetheless. He's one of Cleveland's better run stuffers, and the college defensive end can blitz in a pinch.

Defensive coordinator Dick Jauron has not yet settled on a middle linebacker for his 4-3 system.

The coaching staff has moved Scott Fujita, Chris Gocong, and D'Qwell Jackson around at meetings. Fujita appears to be locked in as an "ideal Sam linebacker," but Jauron wants Gocong and Jackson to determine their positions on the field. Gocong has been considered the favorite to stick in the middle.
