Jaguars placed C/G Jason Spitz (foot) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Spitz's foot sprain proved more severe than originally thought and it's major blow to the Jags' offensive line depth. He was locked in as the primary backup to both C Brad Meester and LG Will Rackley. Jacksonville also placed C John Estes, G Drew Nowak, TE Matt Veldman, and FB Brock Bolen on injured reserve, ending their seasons. Mon, Aug 27, 2012 10:12:00 AM

Jaguars C/G Jason Spitz's (sprained foot) recovery timeline has been adjusted from 2-3 weeks to six weeks.

It means LG Will Rackley's top backup is likely to miss at least 1-2 regular season games. Dealing with a high-ankle sprain, Rackley is "recovering quickly," but expected to be sidelined at least another week.

Jaguars C/G Jason Spitz is out 2-3 weeks with a sprained foot.

It's a blow after starting LG Will Rackley suffered a high ankle sprain that will cost him all of the preseason. Spitz is the top backup to Rackley and C Brad Meester. The Jaguars will likely scour the waiver wire at offensive line this week.

Jaguars agreed to terms with G/C Jason Spitz on a three-year contract.

Jags coaches have long admired Spitz's versatility and pedigree. It's interesting to note the signing came on the same day LG Vince Manuwai showed up out of shape and Justin Smiley was released. Spitz is expected to compete for a starting guard job this year and possibly take over for Brad Meester at center in 2012.

Packers failed to extend a tender to potential restricted free agents G/C Jason Spitz and S Anthony Smith.

Spitz is a prime candidate to look for a better opportunity elsewhere. One Jacksonville beat writer has suggested the Jags could show interest. Smith is a good bet to return to Green Bay at a lower salary.

The Florida Times Union speculates that the Jaguars may have interest in free agent G/C Jason Spitz.

The Times Union cites Spitz's "versatility and pedigree" as appealing to the Jags. Incumbent C Brad Meester is coming off a strong season and signed cheaply ($1.95 million) through 2011, so Spitz probably wouldn't be a candidate to start. OGs Vince Manuwai and Uche Nwaneri aren't going anywhere.

The Eagles were reportedly offering the Packers a sixth-round pick for G/C Jason Spitz at last Saturday's cuts deadline.

Green Bay apparently wanted more, though the window for a trade to happen is far from shut. Aggressive Eagles GM Howie Roseman has reportedly been eying Spitz "for several weeks." He'd be a fine insurance policy, at the very least, should C Jamaal Jackson have a setback from ACL surgery.

The Packers have turned down trade offers for G/C Jason Spitz and he will be on the 53-man roster.

The Packers are wisely going all-in this season on a Super Bowl run. There's no reason to sacrifice quality depth on the offensive line in exchange for a sixth- or seventh-rounder when you are trying to win now.

The Packers have received calls asking if G/C Jason Spitz or G/C Evan Dietrich-Smith are available for trade, sources tell the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Spitz missed 11 games last year due to a back injury and was never really given a shot to beat out Scott Wells at center this year. As an athletic and versatile interior lineman, Spitz would certainly garner significant interest on the open market if he's cut. The Bills, Raiders and Chiefs should be calling Green Bay.

Jason Spitz has been eliminated from the Packers' competition at left guard and center.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel suggests that Spitz is on the trade block, and he did play extensively in Green Bay's second preseason game behind C Scott Wells. Spitz, 27, has 45 career starts. Teams that could have interest in an athletic young center include the Colts, Bills, Raiders, and Chiefs.

Packers re-signed restricted free agent G/C Jason Spitz to a one-year, $1.76 million contract.

He got a 10% raise from his 2009 salary after receiving a second-round tender. A third-round pick out of Louisville in 2006, Spitz beat out Scott Wells to be Green Bay's starting center last September before landing on injured reserve with a herniated disc in his back five games into the season. This year, Spitz will battle T.J. Lang and Daryn Colledge at left guard.

Jason Spitz and Daryn Colledge will battle for the Packers' starting left guard job in training camp.

If Spitz loses out, he could end up backing up Scott Wells at center as well. But Colledge is making noise about his contract situation at the wrong time, possibly giving Spitz a leg up already. We expect the continuity along the Packers' line to keep Aaron Rodgers upright more often this season.

The Packers have extended a second-round tender to restricted free agent G/C Jason Spitz.

Scott Wells has the center job on lock heading to 2010, but Green Bay didn't want to risk losing its potential starting left guard moving forward. Spitz, a third-round pick in 2006, will be in the mix there during training camp.

According to his agent, Packers G/C Jason Spitz (back surgery) has resumed full workouts.

It appears he's finally been medically cleared. Spitz beat out Scott Wells to start at center last August, before landing on I.R. He may be the Packers' answer at left guard next season. Incumbent Daryn Colledge, a restricted free agent, is not expected to be tendered after a horrendous season.

Packers C Jason Spitz has yet to be cleared for football activities after undergoing back surgery in November.

"He’s definitely turned the corner," coach Mike McCarthy said. Spitz is now expected to be a restricted free agent, so he'll likely return in 2010. He beat out incumbent Scott Wells last season before the back problems surfaced.
