Rams signed WR Brandon Williams and S Bhawoh Jue.

Williams had been cut by the 49ers after showing little after unexpectedly being drafted in the third round. The team is hoping he can return punts in place of injured Dante Hall. Jue should provide depth to a beat-up secondary. The team released OL Jeremy Parquet to make room.

49ers waived WR/PR Brandon Williams.

Williams was a surprise third-round pick in 2006. He was never much of a receiver to begin with and didn’t produce as a return man. Williams doesn’t have practice squad eligibility, and could have a hard time finding work.

Brandon Williams will be the 49ers' punt returner this season.

The surprise 2006 third-round pick struggled to stay active as a rookie. Now he'll be up on game days. It's bad news for Jason Hill, who may be buried.

Brandon Williams is expected to resume punt return duties this Sunday.

The Niners' third-round pick has a long punt return of 31 yards on the year. He has not made a reception. Arnaz Battle's costly Week 12 muff precipitated the switch to Williams, who was inactive last Sunday.

49ers declared WR/KR Brandon Williams, QB Shaun Hill, S Tony Parrish, CB Shawntae Spencer, T Harvey Dahl, T Patrick Estes, and DT Damane Duckett inactive for Week 12.

Sammy Davis is expected to take Spencer's spot. He will likely be taken to school by Torry Holt. Williams has not been much of a contributor in his first season. Arnaz Battle is active, as expected.

49ers declared WR Brandon Williams, QB Shaun Hill, FB Moran Norris, TE Delanie Walker, CB B.J. Tucker, Ts Harvey Dahl and Patrick Estes, and LB Parys Haralson inactive for Week 1.

49ers signed third-round WR Brandon Williams to a four-year contract.

Williams played collegiately at Wisconsin, where he was a star. He lacks size, however, and doesn't resemble former teammate Lee Evans in terms of playmaking ability. Williams will return kicks and battle Bryan Gilmore to be San Fran's third receiver in camp.

49ers selected Wisconsin WR Brandon Williams with the No. 84 pick in the NFL Draft.

Williams wasn't supposed to go this high. San Francisco probably felt obliged to add another lackluster talent to their receiving corps after two first-rounders with high upside. He'll compete with a deep cast of no-namers for a roster spot.
