Browns agreed to terms with OT Rashad Butler, formerly of the Texans.
A 2006 third-round pick, Butler has appeared in just two games the past two seasons thanks to two tears of his right triceps. He played 245 snaps as the Texans' swing tackle in 2010. Now on the wrong side of 30, Butler will have to have a strong camp to earn a roster spot as a reserve tackle. May 8 - 5:26 PM

Texans OT Rashad Butler suffered a season-ending torn triceps injury in the preseason finale.

It's the same injury that kept Houston's swing tackle out of 14 games last season. Butler had recently lost the starting right tackle job to Derek Newton. The Texans will have to count on Andrew Gardner as the swing tackle while keeping an eye on the waiver wire.

Texans RT Rashad Butler is still recovering from September surgery to repair his left elbow and triceps.

"I've been rehabbing hard, but I can't tell you it's 100 percent yet," he said. "It's a lot like an Achilles (tear)." Butler should be ready by training camp, where he is expected to be installed as Eric Winston's replacement at right tackle.

The Texans plan to turn to Rashad Butler as their new starting right tackle.

We have to believe they'll add competition before camp, but for now Butler is penciled in. A former third-round pick out of Miami, Butler is considered a proficient, athletic pass blocker, but a downgrade from outgoing RT Eric Winston from a run-blocking standpoint. Butler missed all but two games last season with a torn triceps. He's 29 and has only made four career starts.

Texans placed OT Rashad Butler (triceps) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Butler suffered a torn triceps in last week's game against the Dolphins. Butler has been the Texans' top swing tackle the past few years, and will return to that role in the final year of his contract next season.

Texans agreed to terms with OT Rashad Butler on an undisclosed contract.

Butler missed an opportunity to leave for a starting job when he struggled to take on pass rushers in four fill-in starts for LT Duane Brown. The Texans still value Butler highly as a swing tackle.

According to the Houston Chronicle's John McClain, the Texans would like to re-sign free agent OT Rashad Butler.

Houston's swing tackle, Butler started four games at left tackle while Duane Brown was suspended last season, but struggled mightily in pass protection. He's been with the Texans since 2007, however, and his familiarity with their schemes and personnel make it a pretty good bet he'll be back in 2011.

Texans LT Rashad Butler will be in line for a big payday if he excels in replacing suspended starting LT Duane Brown.

Butler signed a one-year $1.176 million tender this offseason, and would become an unrestricted free agent this offseason under the new collective-bargaining agreement. Butler joins fellow Miami alumni RT Eric Winston and C Chris Myers on the Texans' offensive line in a tough matchup against DeMarcus Ware and the Cowboys' defense in an important Week 3 game.

Rashad Butler will replace Duane Brown (suspension) at left tackle.

Butler's first assignment is to handle Cowboys elite pass-rusher DeMarcus Ware. It's a brutal spot for his first career start and it could limit Matt Schaub's ability to get the ball deep.

Texans re-signed restricted free agent OT Rashad Butler to a one-year, $1.176 million contract.

Butler, 27, has yet to make a start in his four-year career, but is considered a good fit for Houston's zone-blocking scheme because he is athletic. He'll return as the swing tackle behind Duane Brown and Eric Winston.

The Texans extended an original pick tender to restricted free agent OT Rashad Butler.

This was an easy call, as Butler was a 2006 third-round pick and has zero starts in his four-year career. He was Houston's swing tackle in 2009.

Texans signed restricted free agent OT Rashad Butler to a one-year, $1.01 million contract.

The Texans value Butler's athleticism and believe he can grow into a viable "swing" tackle. He'll back up LT Duane Brown and RT Eric Winston this year.

Texans claimed T Rashad Butler off waivers from the Texans.

Butler has upside but was a flop for the Panthers as a third-round draft pick last year. It's unlikely that he'll make a big impact for the Texans.

Panthers waived T Rashad Butler and G Will Montgomery.

Montgomery was a favorite of the old offensive staff but new coordinator Jeff Davidson wasn't a fan. Butler was a third-round bust from 2006.
Sun, Sep 2, 2007 06:29:00 PM

Panthers placed rookie offensive tackle Rashad Butler on the non-football/injury list with a staph infection, ending his season.

Butler, a surprise third-round pick in April, was inactive for every game in his first year. The move opens the door for Brett Basanez to join the active roster. Carolina will continue the Butler project in 2007.
