Jaguars released LB Gerris Wilkinson.
The Jags are suddenly deep at linebacker after adding Clint Session and Paul Posluszny in free agency. Wilkinson couldn't make the cut as a pure special teamer. The Jags also waived WR Greg Ellingson. Mon, Aug 29, 2011 11:52:00 AM

Jaguars signed LB Gerris Wilkinson.

Wilkinson, a former third-round pick of the Giants, has battled through injuries and inconsistencies during his five NFL seasons. His best bet of cracking the final roster will be as a special teamer.

The Giants did not extend LB Gerris Wilkinson a restricted tender, making him an unrestricted free agent.

The Giants have allegedly informed Wilkinson that "they'd like him back," but he earned one snap on defense all season long and hasn't developed as a former third-round pick. Wilkinson did record six special teams tackles in 2010.

Giants LB Gerris Wilkinson fractured the third metatarsal in his left hand in Week 7.

The injury will take three weeks to heal, but he could play sooner in a soft cast. We expect him to do just that since he was able to continue playing after he suffered the injury Monday night.

Giants LB Gerris Wilkinson broke his left hand in the second quarter Monday night but had the hand casted up and stayed in the game.

The special teamer showed some toughness and presumably should be good to go moving forward.

Giants re-signed restricted free agent LB Gerris Wilkinson to a one-year, $1.176 contract.

Wilkinson was expected to be in the mix at middle linebacker, but the Giants will likely keep him on the outside after drafting Phillip Dillard. Wilkinson will remain a backup and special teamer in 2010.

Gerris Wilkinson has entered the Giants' mix at middle linebacker this offseason.

Wilkinson has played outside linebacker since the Giants drafted him in 2006, often with underwhelming results. He'll have to put on weight to compete with Jonathan Goff, Chase Blackburn, Bryan Kehl and possibly an early-round draft selection for the starting job.

The Giants have extended a low restricted free agent tender to LB Gerris Wilkinson.

Wilkinson is now in line to collect $1.176 million in 2010, and will be safe at the low level. He hasn't grown into more than a bit defender and special teamer since New York used surprise a third-round pick on him in 2006.

Giants placed LB Gerris Wilkinson (wrist) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Wilkinson probably isn't in the Giants' long-term plans. He's in the final year of his contract and is behind Chase Blackburn and Bryan Kehl on the depth chart. The 2006 third-round pick finishes the season with nine tackles.

Giants LB Gerris Wilkinson is likely headed to injured reserve after undergoing surgery Monday on a dislocated wrist.

The recovery period is 6-8 weeks, and Wilkinson isn't a good enough player to wait for. New York has enough depth to withstand the backup linebacker's loss with Mike Boley healthy and Chase Blackburn and Bryan Kehl in reserve.

Giants LB Gerris Wilkinson left Sunday's game against the Chargers with a wrist injury.

Wilkinson was taken to the locker room for X-rays, the results of which are unknown. The Giants did get Michael Boley back this week, so they are a little deeper at the spot with Chase Blackburn now a reserve.

Giants LB Gerris Wilkinson revealed that his knee is completely healed from a late-season MCL injury.

Wilkinson has fallen behind Bryan Kehl in the Giants' long-term plans, and he's entering the final season on his contract.

Giants LB Gerris Wilkinson has an MCL injury that will likely keep him out for the final two regular season games.

The Giants will likely play it safe in hopes of having him back for the playoffs, but he is really not much of a defensive player anyways.

The Giants deactivated WLB Gerris Wilkinson in Week 10 due to an ankle injury.

Wilkinson missed the previous four weeks with an MCL sprain. He may have fallen to third on the depth chart behind Bryan Kehl and Chase Blackburn.

Giants WLB Gerris Wilkinson (knee) is out for Week 9.

Rookie Bryan Kehl will continue to start on the weak side in Week 9 against Dallas. Kehl made four tackles and had an interceptions against Pittsburgh.
