Owen Daniels hauled in a team-high nine receptions for 81 yards in Sunday's Divisional round loss at New England.
Save for the increase in targets (15) and garbage-time yards, it was essentially a carbon copy of last week's nine-catch, 91-yard performance. Proving once again to be a TE1 as long as he's not playing through a multitude of injuries, Daniels finished as fantasy's No. 8 tight end. He's scheduled to earn $4 million in his age-30 season in 2013. Jan 13 - 9:21 PM

Owen Daniels (shoulder) was limited again in Thursday's practice.

Daniels' injury is the likely fallout from a stinger-like injury in the third quarter of last week's nine-catch, 91-yard game versus the Bengals. Daniels was able to play through the injury, so it's not a major concern this week. Garrett Graham (concussion) graduated to a full practice on Thursday.
Jan 10 - 5:36 PM

Owen Daniels was limited in Wednesday's practice with a shoulder issue.

Daniels rarely got in full weeks of practice during the regular season, and the postseason won't be any different. He's in no danger of missing Sunday's rematch with the Patriots.
Jan 9 - 6:54 PM

Owen Daniels caught nine passes for 91 yards in the Texans' Wild Card Round win over the Bengals.

Daniels turned Rey Maualuga around for a 17-yard pickup on Houston's second possession, but dropped a third-and-two pass plays later to kill the drive. Daniels came back on the next series to draw a pass interference flag on Vontaze Burfict. Daniels got shaken up on a third-quarter red-zone play with an apparent stinger, but returned on Houston's next drive and was the Texans' most consistent pass option throughout the game. With a healthy Daniels, Houston's passing attack is much sharper and efficient. He led the team with 11 targets Saturday and appears back to 100 percent.
Jan 5 - 8:19 PM

Owen Daniels (chest, knee) and James Casey (knee) are both active for Saturday's Wild Card game versus the Bengals.

Both players were listed as probable on the injury report, so they were expected to play all along. Head coach Gary Kubiak has vowed to get Daniels more involved on offense during the postseason. The Texans inactives are: OG Antoine Caldwell, CB Roc Carmichael, OT Andrew Gardner, CB Stanford Routt, OG Cody White, FB Tyler Clutts, and NT Terrell McClain.
Jan 5 - 3:13 PM

Owen Daniels (chest, knee) was limited in practice on Wednesday.

Daniels was slowed by nagging injuries over the last month of the season, and it resulted in a production decrease. Head coach Gray Kubiak has vowed to get his No. 1 tight end more involved throughout the postseason, though. The chest and knee issues are nothing to worry about. Daniels is Rotoworld's No. 6 fantasy tight end for the playoffs.
Jan 2 - 8:30 PM

Coach Gary Kubiak said the Texans "got to get" Owen Daniels more involved in the offense.

Daniels hasn't topped 43 yards or four catches in a game since Week 11. Some of that has to do with nagging injuries. "He's had some nicks, had his back issue," Kubiak said. "He had some hamstring issue. He's missed a lot of practice for all the right reasons. We're trying to get him to game day." Daniels will certainly suit up for Saturday's Wild Card game against the Bengals, but he really could have used the bye week to get healthier.
Jan 1 - 9:31 AM

Owen Daniels had three receptions for 27 yards against the Colts in Week 17.

Daniels clearly wasn't at 100 percent and was targeted just four times in the passing game. He'll wrap up the regular season with 61 catches for 716 yards and six touchdowns, though his production noticeably dropped off in the second half due to various injuries. The Texans can still secure a first-round bye, so Daniels could have an extra week to get healthy for the playoffs.

Owen Daniels (probable, hamstring) returned to Texans practice fully on Friday and will be active for Week 17 against the Colts.

Slumping Daniels isn't at 100 percent, but he'll be on the field as the Texans attempt to lock up the No. 1 seed in the AFC. As for Daniels' Week 17 fantasy football outlook, Chris Wesseling ranks him ninth among tight end plays.

Owen Daniels (hamstring) did not practice on Thursday.

Daniels was limited on Wednesday, so the downgrade is a bit concerning. When asked what was wrong with his tight end, head coach Gary Kubiak said, "Owen's fine. He's got a sore hamstring." Kubiak later confirmed that Daniels sat out due to the colder weather. Look for him to return to the field on Friday before suiting up on Sunday against the Colts. Daniels caught four passes for 40 yards versus Indy in Week 15.

Owen Daniels (hamstring) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Daniels popped up on the injury report late last week, but managed to play in the Texan's loss to the Vikings. We fully expect him to suit up in Week 17, though it should be noted that Daniels is in the midst of a slump and has not topped 50 yards in his last five games.

Owen Daniels was held to three catches for 27 yards in the Texans' Week 16 loss to the Vikings.

The Vikings' Cover-2 is normally susceptible to tight ends, but they adjusted their scheme knowing how much Matt Schaub loves Daniels. They jammed up the middle of the field and left Andre Johnson in more one-on-one coverage against Chris Cook. It resulted in just three catches on seven targets for Daniels and his fifth straight game with 43 yards or less. After scoring four touchdowns in the Texans' first seven games, Daniels has two over his last eight.

Owen Daniels was a late addition to the Texans' Week 16 injury report and is listed as probable to play against the Vikings.

He should be alright. Daniels is in the midst of a three-week production lull, but is a solid bet to bounce back against Minnesota's Cover-2 defense, which often allows tight ends to run uncovered. He's still the No. 8 overall fantasy tight end on the season. Chris Wesseling has Daniels No. 7 for Week 16.

Owen Daniels caught four balls for 40 yards in the Texans' Week 15 win over the Colts.

He was targeted seven times, predominantly around the line of scrimmage and over the middle. Daniels typically needs to secure a deep seam pass or red-zone score to pay off as an elite fantasy tight end week to week. He simply did not do that against the Colts, as Houston controlled the game all day and was never forced to air it out. Daniels will continue to be a mid-range TE1 starter when the Texans face the Vikings' Cover-2 defense in Week 16.
Sun, Dec 16, 2012 04:56:00 PM

Owen Daniels caught just two passes for 24 yards in Week 14 versus the Patriots.

Daniels saw just three targets and was a complete non-factor like everyone else on the Texans not named Andre Johnson on Monday night. The Patriots are one of the worst teams in the NFL when it comes to covering opposing tight ends, so the low production is somewhat disappointing for fantasy owners. Over the past three weeks, Daniels has hauled in just nine passes for a total of 87 yards and a score. Still, he remains a weekly TE1 and will try to right himself next week against the Colts.
