Lions released S Ko Simpson.
Simpson has been slow to return to football activities after undergoing microfracture surgery on his knee late last year. It says a lot about the current state of his career that he couldn't hold onto a roster spot on a team with the worst secondary in the league. Sat, Sep 4, 2010 12:51:00 PM

Lions activated S Ko Simpson (microfracture surgery) from the training camp PUP list.

Simpson is expected to participate in Monday's practice, but he'll be eased back in after his knee nagged him throughout the offseason. It's still too early to count on him as the fix at strong safety.

Lions S Ko Simpson (microfracture surgery) still hasn't been cleared to practice.

We're getting dangerously close to training camp and is appears Simpson is a prime candidate to start out on the Active/PUP list. The Lions badly need to address the gaping hole at strong safety, where maligned C.C. Brown and CFL product Jonathan Hefney spent time with the first team during offseason workouts.

Lions S Ko Simpson (microfracture surgery) is no lock to be ready for training camp or even preseason action.

Simpson has yet to practice since undergoing a procedure to rebuild cartilage in his knee. It's looking more and more likely that he'll take a backseat to C.C. Brown at strong safety early in the season. Simpson could even end up on the PUP list.

MLive.com's Tom Kowalski calls Ko Simpson "the odds-on favorite" to be the Lions' starting strong safety this year.

It's a scary thought, as Simpson wasn't great in the role last year before a season-ending knee injury that ultimately required microfracture surgery. For the most part, we like what the Lions did to upgrade their secondary this offseason. Strong safety remains a position of major weakness.

The Lions expect S Ko Simpson (microfracture surgery) to be back to full health "at some point early in the regular season."

Simpson injured his knee back in November, and the Lions have yet to discuss the severity. Marvin White tops the depth chart at strong safety, but don't rule out Dante Wesley who saw time in a hybrid linebacker/safety role with Carolina last year.

Lions re-signed S Ko Simpson to a one-year, $1.176 million contract.

The Detroit News also revealed that Simpson's season-ending November knee injury required microfracture surgery, leaving his status for training camp in doubt. Simpson had been counted on as a starter before the injury, so the Lions will have to add strong safety to their list of draft needs.

Lions extended an original-pick tender offer to restricted free agent S Ko Simpson.

The team can match any offer or receive a fourth-round pick in return. Simpson, who was lost for last season with a serious knee injury in November, will receive $1.176 million in 2010. It's believed he needed surgery.

Lions placed S Ko Simpson (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The team never revealed the extent of Simpson's injury, but coach Jim Schwartz strongly indicated that it was severe. Simpson is set for restricted free agency this offseason. While he's flashed playmaking skill when healthy, Simpson's injury-proneness may discourage Detroit from retaining him.

Lions SS Ko Simpson (knee) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Packers.

He will likely be replaced by Marvin White and it's a huge downgrade for the Lions already wretched secondary. Simpson could end up joining Marquand Manuel (shoulder) on injured reserve. The Lions are ranked dead last in the NFL in pass defense, setting up a dream matchup for Aaron Rodgers.

Lions SS Ko Simpson was forced to leave Sunday's win over the Browns with a knee injury and did not return.

Simpson is in danger of missing Thursday's game against the Packers. He was already filling in for Marquand Manuel (injured reserve, shoulder), leaving seldom used Marvin White as a first-teamer. Aaron Rodgers should have a field day against this secondary on Thanksgiving.

Ko Simpson will likely take over as the Lions' starting strong safety for the rest of the season.

The team lost Marquand Manuel to I.R.; Simpson is next on the depth chart. Simpson beat Manuel out earlier in the year, but lost the job when he got hurt. Give Simpson a look in deep IDP leagues behind Detroit's leaky front seven, though FS Louis Delmas remains their most productive defensive back.

Ko Simpson is "prepared to start" according to coach Jim Schwartz.

Simpson saw his first significant action last week against Washington. He will likely start opposite rookie Louis Delmas, as the Lions could use some help on defense defending the pass. Detroit ranks 30th in the league in pass defense and will have a tough matchup in Jay Cutler on Sunday.

Lions acquired S Ko Simpson from the Bills in exchange for an undisclosed 2010 draft pick.

The deal is pending a physical, which Simpson should pass. Simpson was being phased out in Buffalo, but he fills a major need for the Lions if they plan to play him at strong safety. He should start opposite rookie Louis Delmas once he gets his feet wet.

The Bills are shopping FS Ko Simpson in trade talks, according to the National Football Post.

Simpson is 25 and can cover, but his January arrest for hindering a police investigation will limit his market value. He was a 2006 fourth-round pick.
