Free agent TE/FB Garrett Mills has been accepted into the master's program at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern.

Patriots claimed TE/FB Garrett Mills off waivers from the Bengals.

Mills was a fourth-round draft pick of the Pats back in 2006. An H-back type, he has an uphill climb to make a roster already deep in tight ends. OT Zach Roth was waived to create roster space.

Bengals waived TE/FB Garrett Mills.

Mills was trying to make the team as an H-back, but his fate was sealed when the Bengals added Bo Scaife to the tight end position. Brian Leonard is also a better receiver than Mills out of the backfield.

With a laundry list of defensive injuries, the Eagles could no longer afford the luxury of keeping an H-back on the roster. Mills hadn't played since Week 9 against the Colts.

Mills has soft hands and can contribute as an H-back, but will be a mere No. 3 tight end behind Brent Celek and Clay Harbor. He'll play sparingly.

The Eagles are very thin at tight end, with only fourth-round rookie Clay Harbor behind Brent Celek. Mills could eventually help as an H-back off the bench.

Vikings declared TE Garrett Mills, LB David Herron, OT Marcus Johnson, DE Otis Grigsby, WR Darius Reynaud, NT Pat Williams, DT Letroy Guion, and third QB John David Booty inactive for Week 17.

Tarvaris Jackson will start at QB against the Giants, but could be on a short leash. New York is resting a fair number of starters, but has all of its key pass rushers on the active roster. Jackson won't have RT Artis Hicks (triceps) in the starting lineup, and fill-in Ryan Cook is likely to struggle against Giants LE Justin Tuck. Don't be surprised to see Gus Frerotte.

Vikings TE/FB Garrett Mills led the team with three catches for 49 yards in Week 1 against the Packers.

Mills, a fourth-round pick of the Patriots in 2006, appears to have found his niche as a pass-catching H-back. He could lead Vikings TEs in catches this season, as Visanthe Shiancoe is hardly a weapon in the passing game.
