Chargers signed S Pat Watkins and waived WR Gary Banks.

The 27-year-old Watkins has a long history of racking up special teams tackles, so he could help the Chargers' woeful coverage units. Banks lost out on a spot to Seyi Ajirotutu, but could resurface on the practice squad.

Free agent S Pat Watkins visited the Bengals on Wednesday.

The Bengals are in the market for safety help with Gibril Wilson (knee) out for the year, and Watkins fits the bill. When healthy, the former Cowboy is an ace special teamer and decent backup safety. Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer was in Dallas during Watkins' rookie year in 2006.

Cowboys waived S Pat Watkins.

This is a case of Watkins not being able to stay healthy. He missed all four preseason games with a knee injury and simply ran out of time. The special teams demon and serviceable backup safety can surely help a team when he's on the field.

Cowboys S Pat Watkins resumed practicing Tuesday after missing the first two-plus weeks of training camp.

He was out with a knee injury. Beat writers in Dallas are almost all in agreement that Watkins will miss the final cut due to his continued inability to stay healthy. He shouldn't pass through waivers unclaimed in September, though. The freakish, 6'5" athlete was a special teams dynamo last season.

ESPN's Tim MacMahon speculates that Pat Watkins is in danger of losing his roster spot this season.

Two undrafted free agents, Danny McCray and Barry Church, are pushing Watkins to be a backup safety and special teams ace. Watkins is working on a one-year, $1.176 million contract, which isn't going to help his chances.

Cowboys re-signed restricted free agent S Pat Watkins to a one-year, $1.176 million contract.

A special teams ace last year, Watkins could be in the mix for an increase in playing time at safety with Ken Hamlin jettisoned this offseason.

Cowboys extended an original draft-pick tender to restricted free agent S Pat Watkins.

Watkins was originally drafted in the fifth round. The special teamer and reserve safety will earn $1.176 million in 2010.

Cowboys declared S Pat Watkins, QB Stephen McGee, DB Cletis Gordon, OG Montrae Holland, C Duke Preston, OT Pat McQuistan, LB Curtis Johnson, and LB Jason Williams inactive for Saturday's wild card round game against the Eagles.

Gerald Sensabaugh will continue to start at strong safety for a defense that has been dominant of late. Tashard Choice (concussion) is active as the Cowboys' third running back.

Cowboys SS Pat Watkins (sprained PCL) is considered a game-time decision for Saturday night's Wild Card game.

Watkins' role will be limited even if he's active. The Cowboys defense is among the hottest units in the league right now.

Cowboys SS Pat Watkins (sprained PCL) is targeting the playoffs for his return.

The swelling in Watkins' knee is down but he's still feeling pain and soreness. The Cowboys' defense has been dominant the last two weeks with normal starter at strong safety Gerald Sensabaugh playing well.

Cowboys S Pat Watkins suffered a sprained left PCL in the first quarter of Sunday's loss to the Chargers and did not return.

The Cowboys are thin at safety with Ken Hamlin (ankle) also sidelined. Watkins could miss as little as two weeks or as much as a month with the injury.

Pat Watkins will start for the Cowboys at strong safety in place of Gerald Sensabaugh (thumb).

The Cowboys are really thin at safety after trying to sneak Marvin White through waivers but getting bit by the Lions. As of now, Watkins won't have a true backup against the Chiefs Sunday. He's a former fifth-round pick in 2006 that struggles against the run.

Safety Pat Watkins had a solid preseason finale in Minnesota on Friday, recording seven tackles, a blocked field-goal with nine seconds left in the first half, and an interception.

Watkins was somewhat of a forotten man this preseason, but this game put him back on the map for the Cowboys. He wasn't necessarily on the bubble, but nothing was guaranteed and this game only helped his situation.

Cowboys FS Pat Watkins revealed Monday that he recently had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder.

Watkins, who Dallas still views as a future starter, is questionable for early spring workouts. He was used as Dallas' third safety for the bulk of 2008.
