Cowboys FB Lawrence Vickers underwent back surgery Friday.
"It won't keep him out of training camp, but will limit him during (offseason) training," owner/GM Jerry Jones said. With a $1.2 million base salary, Vickers is squarely on the roster bubble. Apr 27 - 8:59 PM

ESPN Dallas says Cowboys FB Lawrence Vickers could be released this offseason.

Vickers is owed $1.2 million in 2013, the final year of a two-year pact. He played sparingly in 2012, and there are far cheaper lead blocker options out there.

Cowboys signed FB Lawrence Vickers, formerly of the Texans.

This signing bodes poorly for Tony Fiammmetta's future in Dallas after the two sides were unable to reach agreement on a long-term deal early in the week. Fiammetta ended up being non-tendered. We believe the 29-year-old Vickers will be a slight downgrade on Fiammetta as a lead blocker.

Free agent FB Lawrence Vickers is visiting the Cowboys on Wednesday.

It's somewhat surprising after Tony Fiammetta took the Cowboys' lead blocker role and ran with it last season, but Dallas might want insurance after an inner-ear infection sidelined Fiammetta for much of the second half.

Texans released FB Lawrence Vickers.

Signed to a two-year deal as Vonta Leach's replacement last August, Vickers had a bounce-back season after a down 2010, but performed nowhere near the level the Texans had become accustomed to with Leach. The Texans will continue to feature James Casey as their fullback moving forward.

Texans signed FB Lawrence Vickers, formerly of the Browns, to a two-year, $3 million contract.

After losing Vonta Leach to the Ravens, the Texans were in desperate need of a lead blocker for Arian Foster. While Vickers certainly isn't as good as Leach, he's better than any of the Texans' internal options such as TE James Casey. Foster will be just fine.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that the team is hosting FB Lawrence Vickers for a free agent visit on Tuesday.

Vickers is a substantial step down from Vonta Leach, but he's more of a true lead blocker than James Casey. The Texans shouldn't offer much guaranteed money.

According to free agent FB Lawrence Vickers, the Texans are in discussions with his player rep, Drew Rosenhaus.

The extent of discussions is unclear, but Vickers would presumably come at a lower cost than predecessor Vonta Leach. Vickers, 28, is coming off one of his worst seasons as a run blocker. Perhaps a scenery change would rejuvenate him.

Free agent FB Lawrence Vickers hasn't spoken to GM Tom Heckert since the season ended and is confused that the Browns drafted Owen Marecic after failing to extend Vickers a restricted tender.

Failing to extend the tender meant that the Browns cut ties with Vickers. "I was like, 'Wow,' but at the same time I laughed," said Vickers. "I don't know what their plans are. ... I love Cleveland. I wanted to be like Kevin Mack, who spent his whole career there." Marecic is much more versatile than Vickers. As a block-only fullback, Vickers didn't fit the new West Coast offense.

Free agent FB Lawrence Vickers is likely done in Cleveland after the Browns selected Stanford FB Owen Marecic in the draft.

Vickers is entering his age-28 season and will attract attention on the open market. He remains one of the better lead blockers in the league, but can't catch the ball like Marecic.

Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer believes that the Browns will not bring back free agent FB Lawrence Vickers.

Vickers is one of the better lead blockers in the game, but may be getting phased out due to the Browns' West Coast offense. Grossi says that the Browns will use Peyton Hillis as their fullback next season, perhaps as a way to get both Hillis and Montario Hardesty on the field at the same time.

Browns re-signed restricted free agent FB Lawrence Vickers to a one-year, $1.759 million contract.

Vickers, 27, is one of the most oft-used lead blockers in the game despite lacking versatility. Though Vickers is coming off a down season by his standards, the Browns are confident that he'll rebound in front of Jerome Harrison and rookie Montario Hardesty. Vickers may be a candidate for a long-term extension if Cleveland's running game starts the season hot.

Browns unsigned restricted free agent FB Lawrence Vickers signed an injury waiver and will practice on Monday.

The valuable lead-blocker was slapped with a second-round tender back in March, ensuring that he'll be back in Cleveland.

Browns extended a second-round tender offer to restricted free agent FB Lawrence Vickers.

The Browns value Vickers highly and considered placing a first-round tender on him. As a fullback, he's plenty safe at the second-round level.

Beat writer Tony Grossi speculates that the Browns may have to give impending restricted free agent FB Lawrence Vickers a first-round tender to prevent him from leaving.

Vickers was a sixth-round pick in 2006 and has been an excellent find for the Browns. When Jamal Lewis still had some legs in 2007, Vickers paved the way for 1,304 yards and a 4.4 yards per carry average. The Browns will do what it takes to keep him.
