Free agent SLB Pisa Tinoisamoa (knee) surgery would be "limited at best" in training camp if re-signed by the Bears.

Tinoisamoa's right knee operation may have been more serious than he or the team let on. The Bears are interested in retaining Tinoisamoa, but they may have to secure insurance because of the medical risk. The Chicago Tribune suggests ex-Seahawks LB Leroy Hill. In-house free agent Nick Roach is another option.

One Bears coach tells CSN Chicago that the Bears "definitely" want free agent SLB Pisa Tinoisamoa back for 2011.

Tinoisamoa has missed 18 games over the past two seasons, but the Bears felt his on-field play was "thoroughly outstanding" last year. Pro Football Focus rated Tinoisamoa as an outstanding run stopper. Coming off the third right knee surgery of his career, the 30-year-old should be fairly easy to retain.

Free agent LB Pisa Tinoisamoa underwent a third right knee surgery earlier this offseason.

Tinoisamoa missed most of 2009 after injuring the knee twice, and he sat out three games last year following a December scope. This procedure was to repair "wear and tear," and Tinoisamoa is said to be doing well in his recovery. Turning 30 this summer, he may have trouble landing guaranteed money on the open market.

Bears SLB Pisa Tinoisamoa will regain his starting job in Sunday's Divisional Round game against Seattle.

He's been out since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on December 6. Nick Roach will head back to the bench. The Bears prefer Tinoisamoa's run defense, although both linebackers can play. It's not a major upgrade.

Bears SLB Pisa Tinoisamoa (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Jets, but will not start.

Nick Roach will continue to start as Tinoisamoa works himself back into shape. Otherwise, the Bears are healthy for what Vegas thinks will be the lowest scoring game in Week 16. Bears inactives: Third QB Caleb Hanie, RB Kahlil Bell, TE Desmond Clark, G Herman Johnson, C/G Edwin Williams, DT Marcus Harrison, CB Joshua Moore and S Craig Steltz.

Bears SLB Pino Tinoisamoa (knee) said he could have played in Week 15 had he not overextended himself in practice.

"Last week I felt pretty good; almost too good,'' Tinoisamoa said. "I think that's why I practiced last week like it was a game. I probably hurt my chances of playing because I practiced like that." Tinoisamoa, who is coming back from a knee scope, would have been a limited participant had the Bears practiced Wednesday. He has a good shot to suit up this weekend, which would send Nick Roach back to a backup role.

Bears declared LB Pisa Tinoisamoa, TE Desmond Clark, CB Joshua Moore, DT Marcus Harrison, OL Edwin Williams, RB Kahlil Bell, OL Herman Johnson, and third QB Caleb Hanie inactive for Monday's Week 15 game.

No surprises here, as Nick Roach will start on the strong side in place of Tinoisamoa. DT Tommie Harris is reportedly starting for Matt Toeaina.

Bears SLB Pino Tinoisamoa (knee) is listed as questionable for Monday's Week 15 game against Minnesota.

Nick Roach will start on the strong side if Tino is inactive. With field conditions up in the air, the Bears may be better off holding out the linebacker for an extra week.

Bears SLB Pisa Tinoisamoa resumed practicing on Thursday, almost two weeks after undergoing a knee scope.

Tinoisamoa is expected to be limited Thursday, so he's no lock to play Monday night against the Vikings. With field conditions expected to be a major issue, the Bears might be better off holding him out for one more week.

Bears declared LB Pisa Tinoisamoa, QB Caleb Hanie, RB Kahlil Bell, TE Desmond Clark, Herman Johnson, C/G Edwin Williams, DT Marcus Harrison, and CB Josh Moore inactive for Week 14 against the Patriots.

Nick Roach will start on the strong side in place of Tinoisamoa. Other than that injury, the Bears are relatively healthy for a game in December.

Bears coach Lovie Smith revealed Monday that SLB Pisa Tinoisamoa recently had his right knee scoped.

It's not clear when he had the surgery, but he sat out in Week 13 and his status going forward is unclear. Nick Roach started in Tinoisamoa's place Sunday and went down with a hip injury that has his status also in question, so the Bears are becoming awfully thin on the strong side. Rod Wilson seems likely to start in Week 14.

Bears declared SLB Pisa Tinoisamoa, QB Caleb Hanie, CB Josh Moore, RB Kahlil Bell, OL Edwin Williams, TE Desmond Clark, DE Barry Turner, and DE Corey Wooton inactive for Week 13 against the Lions.

Nick Roach will start on the strong side, and he's a perfectly capable replacement. Bell remains inactive at running back thanks to the hefty contract handed to a declining Chester Taylor this past offseason.
