Browns S Ray Ventrone underwent surgery to insert a plate and six screws in his broken left hand.
A core special teamer, Ventrone is hoping to play through the injury, presumably with a club on his hand. Without Ventrone, the Browns gave up an 81-yard punt return score to Pacman Jones in Week 2. Thu, Sep 20, 2012 03:48:00 PM

Patriots safety Ray Ventrone was doing drills with the receivers on Tuesday afternoon.

The special teamer was recruited as a running back out of high school, but decided to play safety at Villanova. He's clearly a long shot to even see one snap on offense this season, but it's worth noting.

Patriots re-signed exclusive rights free agent DB Ray Ventrone.

As an ERFA, Ventrone would've had to take the year off if he didn't want to stay with New England. Ventrone plays special teams, not on defense.
