Rams LB Rocky McIntosh is working as a backup at both outside positions.
McIntosh has experience as a 4-3 outside 'backer thanks to his time with Gregg Williams in Washington. He projects as the backup to Mario Haggan on the strong side and Jo-Lonn Dunbar on the weak side. Wed, Aug 1, 2012 12:56:00 PM

Rams signed LB Rocky McIntosh, formerly of the Redskins.

McIntosh had previously visited the Vikings and Dolphins in addition to the 'Skins. Coming off 65 tackles and a sack last season after losing his starting job mid-way through, McIntosh will likely compete with Jo-Lonn Dunbar and Mario Haggan for snaps at outside linebacker.

The Rams would like to get free agent LB Rocky McIntosh under contract "relatively quickly."

McIntosh worked out for Jeff Fisher Wednesday morning, and the head coach liked what he saw. Considering McIntosh has been on the street all offseason, a contract should be easy to hammer out. He could push Jo-Lonn Dunbar or Mario Haggan for a starting role at outside linebacker in Fisher's 4-3 scheme.

Free agent LB Rocky McIntosh is participating in Rams minicamp on a tryout basis.

McIntosh worked out personally in front of coach Jeff Fisher on Wednesday morning, and took part in individual drills in the afternoon. A 29-year-old with four and a half years of starting experience, McIntosh could be a starter in St. Louis.

The Jets recently hosted ILB Rocky McIntosh for a free agent visit.

McIntosh has also met with the Vikings, Bears, and Dolphins since the free agency period began. The 29-year-old would be depth for Rex Ryan's defense.

Free agent Rocky McIntosh worked out for the Vikings this week.

McIntosh had previously visited the Bears and Dolphins. He would likely back up WLB Erin Henderson and expected first-year starter MLB Jasper Brinkley if he lands in Minnesota.

Free agent LB Rocky McIntosh visited the Bears on Tuesday.

McIntosh started 69 games for the Redskins over six seasons before losing his job in November last year. He could back up on the weakside and in the middle with the Bears.

Free agent ILB Rocky McIntosh visited the Dolphins on Sunday.

It's his first known visit of free agency. With the Redskins since being a second-round pick 2006, McIntosh lost his starting job in Week 10 last season, and drew a Week 17 suspension for breaking curfew. McIntosh can play weak-side linebacker in a 4-3 like the Dolphins' new scheme, and pinch in at Mike.

According to ESPN 980 Washington's Chris Russell, Redskins ILB Rocky McIntosh "stuffed his bed with pillows/blankets to make it look like he was in and not breaking curfew" during the team's trip to Philadelphia.

"It did not work," according to Russell. Perhaps things would have turned out differently had McIntosh had his parents call coach Mike Shanahan and ask permission to stay out later. McIntosh will be playing elsewhere in 2012.

Redskins ILB Rocky McIntosh was inactive in Week 17 after "blowing off" curfew, a source tells CSN Washington's Ryan O'Halloran.

McIntosh's fate in Washington is essentially sealed and he likely knew it. They'll use Perry Riley as their starting inside linebacker of the future, allowing McIntosh to walk in free agency.

ESPN 980 Washington's Chris Russell reports Redskins ILB Rocky McIntosh was "essentially suspended" for Week 17.

A surprise inactive, McIntosh reportedly drew the ire of coach Mike Shanahan for being "late to some meetings/inattentive." Set to become a free agent, McIntosh had appeared in every game before Week 17, starting eight. He tallied 65 tackles and one sack, grading out as one of the worst inside linebackers in the league by Pro Football Focus. There's a good chance his six-year tenure in Washington has come to an end.

Redskins declared LB Rocky McIntosh, WR Aldrick Robinson, OT Jammal Brown, TE Richard Quinn, WR David Anderson, DT Doug Worthington, and DT Kentwan Balmer inactive for Week 17 against the Eagles.

Perry Riley continues to play alongside London Fletcher and could make a push for a starting job in 2012. Robinson was the Redskins sixth round draft pick this season and was promoted from the practice squad earlier this week. Seventh-round rookie OLB Markus White is active for just the second time this season.

Newly re-signed Redskins ILB Rocky McIntosh was immediately re-installed as a starter at his first practice of camp Thursday.

Perry Riley and H.B. Blades moved down a notch. Though McIntosh wasn't effective on the field last season, he did post a career-high 110 tackles as the inside 'backer next to London Fletcher. He's very much on the IDP radar, and the Skins will hope for improvement in his second year of Jim Haslett's scheme.

Redskins re-signed ILB Rocky McIntosh.

We aren't aware of any free agent visits for McIntosh, whose market seemed slow to develop after a disappointing season. He'll likely slot back in as the starter next to London Fletcher. Re-siging McIntosh would seem to suggest the Redskins won't follow through on signing Lofa Tatupu, who is scheduled to visit Thursday.

The Redskins' front office has reportedly "wavered" on the merits of re-signing free agent LB Rocky McIntosh.

McIntosh was ill-fitted for the new 3-4 defense, and he fared poorly in the coaching staff's 2010 evaluations. Given what we know about the Redskins plans, McIntosh is a poor bet to return.
