Saints RG Jahri Evans reportedly required a knee scope recently.

Evans missed Week 3 and was inactive Sunday night against Dallas. Evans' play has fallen off a cliff recently, so the Saints are likely hoping the procedure will help get him right. Evans should be considered week to week.
Oct 4 - 9:11 PM

The Saints saved $4 million in salary-cap space by extending RG Jahri Evans.

Evans will make $18 million over the next three seasons, including $9.5 million guaranteed. He's now under contract through 2017, his age-34 season. Recovering from offseason wrist surgery, Evans is expected to be ready for OTAs.
Apr 3 - 8:30 PM

Saints signed RG Jahri Evans to a one-year contract extension through 2017.

Evans was set to count $9.6 million against the cap this season, so this was likely only done to relieve some pressure there. He's now under contract through his age-34 season. The Saints were shopping both Evans and LG Ben Grubbs earlier this offseason before sending Grubbs to Kansas City. Evans is one of the league's top guards when healthy. He's recovering from offseason wrist surgery.

The Buffalo News' Vic Carucci reports the Bills had interest in trading for Saints RG Jahri Evans.

Buffalo is looking for a bookend to Richie Incognito after Chris Williams was a 2014 free-agent flop. Williams is a questionable fit in OC Greg Roman's power scheme and would save the Bills $2.5 million as a post-June cut. The Saints were shopping both Evans and LG Ben Grubbs before dealing Grubbs to the Chiefs.
Mar 27 - 11:51 AM

The Saints may have to release RG Jahri Evans to make cap space for C.J. Spiller.

Evan Woodbery of the New Orleans Times-Picayune says "something almost has to happen," and he predicts it will occur in the next 24 hours. As we've seen with Friday's Kenny Stills trade, Drew Brees and Brandin Cooks are the only players on the roster viewed as untouchable. Evans carries a $6.8 million base salary in 2015 and has been rumored as a cut candidate since the start of free agency.
Mar 13 - 2:12 PM

ESPN reports Saints RG Jahri Evans remains a candidate for release.

Going on 32, Evans is coming off an ineffective 2014. Cutting him would create $5 million in cap space, but also leave behind $6 million in dead money. A restructure remains a possibility.
Mar 10 - 1:30 PM

RG Jahri Evans faces an uncertain future with the Saints.

Evans, the Saints' starting right guard for the last nine seasons and a four-time first-team All-Pro, carries a $9.6M cap number in 2015. The cap-strapped Saints can't afford that number in addition to the $9.6M cap hit of left guard Ben Grubbs. So they are talking to Evans about a restructure as the threat of an outright cut looms.
Feb 23 - 9:38 AM

Saints RG Jahri Evans underwent wrist surgery to repair a torn TFCC after the season.

Evans played through the tear the second half of the season, and his play was noticeably hampered by the injury. Evans gave up a league-worst 34 hurries as a pass protector among guards and was Pro Football Focus' second-worst pass-blocking guard in 2014. He was strong in the run game, however. Due $7.3 million in salary and bonuses with the Saints in a bad spot against the salary cap, Evans is a strong candidate for release or contract restructure this offseason.
Feb 2 - 8:25 PM

Saints RG Jahri Evans (ankle) is inactive for Week 12 against the Falcons.

Evans apparently got injured in Sunday's win over the 49ers. It's unclear if he's dealing with a high-ankle sprain. Tim Lelito will fill in against Atlanta. Evans has 11 days to get healthy for New Orleans' Week 13 Monday night showdown with the Seahawks.

Saints RG Jahri Evans (hamstring) was a limited participant in Saturday's practice and is questionable for Week 4.

Evans didn't play a single snap despite being active last week. He should return to the starting lineup for Monday night's game against the Dolphins.

The Times-Picayune says RG Jahri Evans has been one of the most impressive players in Saints camp.

Evans has been a first-team All-Pro in each of the last four seasons, has never missed a start in his seven-year career and graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 8 guard last year. He leads a Saints' offensive line that will at least be competent and could be an asset if Charles Brown holds his own at left tackle. We know they'll be strong inside.

The Saints restructured RG Jahri Evans' contract, slashing his base salary from $7.2 million to "roughly" $3 million.

As is typical, the missing $4.2 million in salary should be turned into a "signing bonus" that pro-rates over the final four years of Evans' deal. It frees up roughly $3 million in 2013 cap space.

Saints interim coach Joe Vitt expects OG Jahri Evans (knee surgery) and LB Jonathan Vilma (knee) to be limited during OTAs.

Vilma, who is appealing his year-long suspension for his role in the bounty scandal, is apparently still rehabbing from the knee injury that limited him for most of 2011. Evans previously insisted his arthroscopic surgery was "minor," and wouldn't hold him out of OTAs. It's unclear if he'll be 100 percent for training camp.

Saints RG Jahri Evans has restructured his contract.

Evans agreed to turn "most" of his 2012 salary into a signing bonus, which will prorate its cap hit over the final five years of his contract. The move clears roughly $2 million in cap space for the Saints, who are "around" $8 million under the projected 2012 cap.
