Eagles coach Doug Pederson confirmed Stephen Tulloch will play middle linebacker.
Signed to a one-year, $3 million deal Sunday, Tulloch will compete with Jordan Hicks in the middle. The Eagles could decide to move Hicks to the weakside, but Pederson said that is not the plan right now. With new DC Jim Schwartz reportedly not pleased with WLB Mychal Kendricks, it could become the plan quickly. Aug 22 - 10:43 AM

Eagles signed MLB Stephen Tulloch to a one-year deal worth up to $3 million, including $1.75 million guaranteed.

The move reunites Tulloch with Eagles DC Jim Schwartz, under whom Tulloch played in Detroit. Now 31 years old, Tulloch has regressed into a two-down thumper only, but he should improve the Eagles' interior run defense as a role player. We may now see the Eagles kick Jordan Hicks outside across from Nigel Bradham. Schwartz has seemingly not been smitten with WLB Mychal Kendricks.

The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson reports free agent LB Stephen Tulloch is on the "Dolphins' radar."

Ten days ago, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Eagles and Tulloch were in "heavy negotiations" about a contract. Clearly, nothing materialized, and according to Jackson, Tulloch wants more than the veteran minimum. That's very likely what is keeping him unsigned. Tulloch is a 31-year-old two-down thumper.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Eagles are in heavy negotiations with free agent LB Stephen Tulloch.

Tulloch isn't more than a two-down linebacker at this stage, but has a history with DC Jim Schwartz. He would give the Eagles a veteran to complement second-year ILB Jordan Hicks. Tulloch underwent offseason ankle surgery that delayed his release from Detroit, but should be close to fully healthy.
Aug 6 - 7:05 PM

CSN Philly's Reuben Frank's "guess" is that the Eagles won't pursue free agent LB Stephen Tulloch.

Tulloch has a history with DC Jim Schwartz, and the Eagles have some depth concerns. But it doesn't appear to be enough for Philly to want to spend the $985,000 minimum it'd require to sign Tulloch. At this stage of his career, he's little more than a two-down run plugger and veteran leader.

Cowboys.com's Bryan Broaddus says the team is not expected to pursue free agent MLB Stephen Tulloch.

As Broaddus later noted, Tulloch is aging (32), slowing down, and only a two-down run thumper at this stage. Broaddus believes more athletic youngsters Anthony Hitchens and Mark Nzeocha are the top internal candidates to replace suspended MLB Rolando McClain. Broaddus didn't rule out Dallas pursuing free agent DeMeco Ryans, though Ryan's skill set issues are similar to Tulloch's.

The Newark Star-Ledger's Eliot Shorr-Parks considers the Eagles a potential landing spot for free agent LB Stephen Tulloch.

The Lions finally released Tulloch on Tuesday after informing him he'd be cut four months ago. He underwent an offseason ankle scope that delayed his release. Tulloch is 31 and coming off another 100-plus-tackles season. He played for Eagles DC Jim Schwartz when Schwartz was the Lions' coach. Tulloch could be a veteran presence for a younger linebacker group in Philly.

Free agent ILB Stephen Tulloch underwent arthroscopic ankle surgery earlier this offseason, but is now 100 percent healthy.

We finally know the reason for the four-month delay in Tulloch's release. The Lions would have owed Tulloch an injury settlement had they cut him before he could pass a physical. It's still surprising an accord couldn't be worked out sooner. Tulloch should find a new home as a two-down run stopper before training camp.
Jul 5 - 4:57 PM

Lions released MLB Stephen Tulloch.

So ends one of the offseason's strangest sagas. Tulloch has known of his release since February, but supposed "contractual issues" kept him on the 53-man roster until now. With all of free agency's money long since spent, the 11th-year pro is finally free to find a new home. Tulloch had been set to make $5.5 million, but will get maybe a third of that, if he's lucky. No longer a three-down player, Tulloch will search for work as a two-down thumper.
Jul 5 - 4:16 PM

Lions MLB Stephen Tulloch has been excused from mandatory minicamp.

The Lions are expected to make his release official in the next few weeks. It's been a bizarre offseason for Tulloch, who was told he's no longer part of the team's plans but remains on the roster. The Lions even paid him a $500,000 roster bonus that could have been avoided by cutting him within five days of the new league year. He hasn't shown up for any of the team's offseason activities.
Jun 13 - 12:21 PM

Lions MLB Stephen Tulloch said he hopes to have his contract situation resolved in the next couple days.

The Lions told Tulloch he was no longer part of their plans in February, but he remains on the roster because of undisclosed contract issues. With mandatory minicamp on the horizon, the Lions need to get this issue resolved. Tulloch said he will report to minicamp if he is still under contract to avoid being fined.

MLB Stephen Tulloch is still on the Lions' roster.

Detroit told Tulloch in February he was not part of their plans, but he is still on the roster at the end of May. Tulloch is not participating in the offseason program, and the expectation is he will be released at some point. The problem is no one seems to know when that will happen. This has been one of the odder sagas of the offseason.

Lions coach Jim Caldwell declined to update MLB Stephen Tulloch’s status.

The Lions told Tulloch in February they planned to cut him, but they paid his $500K roster bonus and have yet to release him. It sounds like Detroit wants to keep Tulloch at a reduced salary. Tulloch is owed $5.5M this season.

May 7 - 7:11 PM

Lions GM Bob Quinn said MLB Stephen Tulloch is still on the roster due to "contractual issues."

Quinn made the pronouncement at the Owners Meetings last month, and the Lions have still not resolved the issues. After paying him a $500,000 roster bonus, Detroit may be inclined to keep Tulloch around despite telling him they planned to move on in February. Owed $5.5 million this season, Tulloch would have to accept a pay cut to stick around.

Apr 18 - 11:01 AM

The Detroit Free Press still expects Lions MLB Stephen Tulloch to take a pay cut if he's to remain on the roster.

Tulloch was supposed to be released at the start of the new league year, but it didn't happen. The Lions even paid a $500,000 roster bonus. The 31-year-old linebacker is currently due $5.5 million, and to count $7.3 million against the cap. That's too much for a player who no longer plays all three downs.
