Lions coach Jim Caldwell declined to update MLB Stephen Tulloch’s status.
The Lions told Tulloch in February they planned to cut him, but they paid his $500K roster bonus and have yet to release him. It sounds like Detroit wants to keep Tulloch at a reduced salary. Tulloch is owed $5.5M this season. May 7 - 7:11 PM

Lions GM Bob Quinn said MLB Stephen Tulloch is still on the roster due to "contractual issues."

Quinn made the pronouncement at the Owners Meetings last month, and the Lions have still not resolved the issues. After paying him a $500,000 roster bonus, Detroit may be inclined to keep Tulloch around despite telling him they planned to move on in February. Owed $5.5 million this season, Tulloch would have to accept a pay cut to stick around.

The Detroit Free Press still expects Lions MLB Stephen Tulloch to take a pay cut if he's to remain on the roster.

Tulloch was supposed to be released at the start of the new league year, but it didn't happen. The Lions even paid a $500,000 roster bonus. The 31-year-old linebacker is currently due $5.5 million, and to count $7.3 million against the cap. That's too much for a player who no longer plays all three downs.

Lions MLB Stephen Tulloch remains on the roster.

The Lions informed Tulloch in February of their intention to cut him once the new league year opened, but he is still on the roster almost a week later. More surprisingly, it appears the Lions have decided to pay Tulloch the $500,000 roster bonus he was owed on the fifth day of the 2016 league year, which would have been Sunday. Perhaps the Lions were willing to eat that money in order to shop Tulloch through the draft. The veteran's roster situation is completely up in the air.

Lions informed MLB Stephen Tulloch of his release.

The move apparently won't become official until the start of the new league year, but we're marking Tulloch as cut for bookkeeping purposes. His release frees up $6 million in cap space for the Lions. Returning from a torn ACL, Tulloch started all 16 games in 2015, playing 737 snaps in his age-30 season. Tulloch turned 31 last month. Tulloch has always been a tackling machine, but was no longer a three-down player last season. He'll likely be limited to low-base, incentive-laden offers in free agency.

ESPN Lions reporter Michael Rothstein reports MLB Stephen Tulloch is a "potential cap cut."

After tearing his ACL celebrating a sack three games into 2014, Tulloch was a part-time player last season, logging just 69% of the defensive snaps. With the same coaching staff returning, it would not be surprising if the Lions decided to move on. Tulloch is owed $6 million in salary and bonuses and will count $7.3 million against the cap in the final year of his deal.

Lions MLB Stephen Tulloch only played 68 percent of Detroit's Week 2 snaps and was referred to as a "role player" by coach Jim Caldwell.

Despite WLB DeAndre Levy sitting on the sidelines with a hip injury, Tulloch was not used in an every-down role against the Vikings. Instead, the Lions rolled out Josh Bynes in the middle, who was on the field for 100 percent of defensive snaps. Tulloch should be downgraded to a low-end LB2 while his snap count is capped, while Bynes' IDP value will be limited whenever Levy returns.

Lions MLB Stephen Tulloch (ACL surgery) avoided the active/PUP list to open camp.

He's all systems go after tearing his ACL in Week 3 of last season. Tulloch, 30, seems primed for a bounce-back season as the signal caller in Detroit's defense. He posted 110-plus tackles in five straight years before 2014.

Lions MLB Stephen Tulloch (knee) expects to be ready for OTAs.

The Lions were considering holding Tulloch out until training camp, but he's healthy enough to start participating in on-field work. Eight months removed from ACL surgery, Tulloch will likely be limited throughout OTAs.

Lions MLB Stephen Tulloch (knee) said he could "definitely play today."

Tulloch tore his ACL in Week 3 celebrating a sack by mocking Aaron Rodgers' discount double-check schtick. The Lions may take it easy on Tulloch through OTAs and minicamp, but he should be 100 percent before training camp.

Lions MLB Stephen Tulloch (knee) is questionable for OTAs.

Tulloch is six months removed from his torn ACL. He has a chance to be ready for spring workouts, but is expected to be held out until training camp. Tulloch will return as Detroit's starting MIKE linebacker when healthy, with Kyle Van Noy and Tahir Whitehead competing on the strong side.

Lions MLB Stephen Tulloch (ACL) said he's "way ahead of schedule."

Tulloch blew out his left knee while doing a Discount Double Check celebration following an Aaron Rodgers sack in Week 3. "It's crazy how you feel stronger than you did previous, before the surgery," he said. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old Tulloch's roster spot is a bit tenuous as he's set to count $5.8M against the cap and Tahir Whitehead filled in reasonably well at middle linebacker last season.

Lions MLB Stephen Tulloch (ACL) is expected to participate in some spring workouts.

Tulloch's rehab off the Week 3 tear is reportedly ahead of schedule, as evidenced by some workout videos that can be accessed through the link below. He should be ready to rock as the Lions' starting middle linebacker in 2015.

Lions placed MLB Stephen Tulloch on injured reserve with a torn left ACL, ending his season.

We'll resist taking the latest potshot at Tulloch for the way he tore his ACL. The Lions figure to turn to DeAndre Levy at Mike 'backer, positioning Levy to be an IDP monster the rest of the way. Tahir Whitehead will take over at weak side. Tulloch, 30 in January, is owed $4.5 million in 2015. The Lions will have to decide whether he is worth that much money next spring.

Lions MLB Stephen Tulloch tore his left ACL during Sunday's win over the Packers.

Tulloch suffered the injury in humiliating, Bill Gramatica fashion: Celebrating a sack with an attempt at a discount double-check. The sturdy veteran had previously never missed a game in his nine-year career. "It's unfortunate, man, you're passionate about the game," Tulloch said. "You want to get up and celebrate and it happened." The Lions compensated Sunday by moving DeAndre Levy to the middle and inserting Tahir Whitehead at weak-side linebacker.
