Patriots K Stephen Gostkowski said, "I stink right now."
Gostkowski has already missed two extra points and three attempts after connecting on at least 90 percent of his kicks and all of his extra points the last three seasons. "Obviously there's something going on and I'm gonna work my hardest to fix it," Gostkowski said. "No one feels worse about screwing up than I do." Despite his struggles, Gostkowski is in no danger of losing his job. Mon, Oct 24, 2016 10:41:00 AM

Patriots signed K Stephen Gostkowski to a four-year, $17.2 million contract.

New England slapped the franchise tag on Gostkowski earlier this offseason, and he immediately signed his $4.59 million tender. The two sides had until 4 PM ET Wednesday to agree to a long-term deal. Arguably the best kicker in the league, 31-year-old Gostkowski is now the league's richest player at his position.

Patriots signed franchise player K Stephen Gostkowski to a one-year, $4.59 million contract.

One of the league's best kickers, Gostkowski converted 35-of-37 field-goal attempts in 2014. By signing his tender, teams can no longer make offers for him. The Patriots have until July 15 to sign Gostkowski to a long-term deal. If not, he will be paid a fully guaranteed $4.59 million base salary.

Patriots assigned the franchise tag to K Stephen Gostkowski.

The move means FS Devin McCourty will be headed to the open market. Tagging Gostkowski costs a relatively steep $4.5 million (120 percent of his 2014 cap charge), but ensures the Pats will keep a kicker who has converted field goals at an 86.8 percent rate since 2006. Gostkowski was 35-of-37 on field-goal attempts in 2014, and is one of the league's very best, if not best, kickers.

ESPN Boston says the Patriots are more likely to use the franchise tag on K Stephen Gostkowski than S Devin McCourty.

Tagging Gostkowski would cost the Patriots roughly $4.5M while McCourty would be closer to $9.5M. Gostkowski has been one of the league's best kickers ever since the Patriots scooped him in the fourth round of the 2006 draft, converting 243-of-280 (86.8 percent) field-goal attempts.

Stephen Gostkowski has made just 2-of-5 field goals through two preseason games.

Gostkowski has converted from 34 and 39 yards out, but has missed from 44, 50, and 53. Coach Bill Belichick says the whole field-goal unit "needs to be better," but insisted he has full confidence in Gostkowski. He's the only kicker in Patriots camp, so there is no competition for the job. Gostkowski is scheduled to make $2.5 million this season, so he needs to be a lot better.

ESPN Boston wonders if the Patriots will bring in competition for K Stephen Gostkowski this offseason.

Gostkowski has shown a steady leg in his time with the Patriots, but his salary is on the rise. He currently has the fourth-highest base salary on the team's books for 2013 at $2.5 million. For how accurate Gostkowski has been, he isn't asked to make too many tough kicks. He has attempted just ten kicks from 50-plus yards out in his seven-year career.

The Patriots worked out free agent kickers Billy Cundiff, Neil Rackers and Graham Gano Wednesday.

The Pats are putting Stephen Gostkowski on notice even though he's drained all seven of his field-goal attempts the past four weeks, and is 17-of-20 on the year. More than likely, coach Bill Belichick is just compiling an emergency list in case Gostkowski struggles again later in the season. Gostkowski has been very reliable throughout most of his seven-year career, converting 84.5 percent of his field-goal tries.

Patriots K Stephen Gostkowski (quad) drilled two field goals and five extra points in Thursday's preseason opener.

The field goals were from 46 and 43 yards out, so he was sufficiently tested. Gostkowski is not yet handling kickoffs because he's still building strength in his leg. Barring a setback, he should be all systems go for the start of the season.

Patriots K Stephen Gostkowski (torn quad) was spotted making field goals from 50-plus yards Wednesday.

This confirms that Gostkowski is fully recovered from his November surgery. With more than a month to go before Week 1, owners shouldn't have any health concerns here. Gostkowski is our No. 9 fantasy kicker.

Patriots K Stephen Gostkowski (quad surgery) has resumed normal kicking activities.

Now over six months removed from surgery to reattach the muscle to the bone, Gotskowski feels as good as he has in any previous year. The Pats may bring in a camp leg to take some of the reps, but Gostkowski is locked into field-goal duties barring a setback.

Coach Bill Belichick expressed confidence Tuesday that K Stephen Gostkowski will fully recover after tearing his quad muscle from the bone last November.

Gostkowski's 67.9 yards per kickoff ranked fifth in the league last season. Asked about his support for the new rule placing kickoffs at the 35-yard line, Belichick responded, "We've got a good kicker, sorry."

Patriots K Stephen Gostkowski's quad muscle was actually torn "right off the bone" of his kicking leg last season, thus necessitating his November surgery.

Gostkowski's doctors are confident that he'll make a full recovery by training camp. The Patriots have to be at least slightly concerned about their kicker after such a serious leg injury, however. At least on kickoffs and long field goals, Gostkowski will be under the microscope early in the season.

Patriots K Stephen Gostkowski is ahead of schedule in his recovery from November surgery on his right quadricep.

The injury was more serious than anticipated, but Gostkowski is still expected to be ready for training camp this summer. Shayne Graham will likely be jettisoned after converting all 12 of his field goal attempts in eight games.

Patriots K Stephen Gostkowski recently underwent surgery to repair his injured quadriceps muscle.

The injury ended up being worse than originally believed, and the procedure was done to add strength to the muscle. The surgery isn't expected to hold him back going into the 2011 season.
