Panthers placed S Nate Salley (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.

This one stings. Salley wasn't even close to a starter, but Carolina tendered him for $1.01 million this spring and will eat that money when they could've used it on defensive tackle help. Salley is unsigned for 2010.

Panthers S Nate Salley has spent the last two days getting a second opinion on his injured knee.

Salley hasn't practiced since August 7. He's due to make $1.01 million this year and if he can't get healthy, the Panthers could cut the special teamer to free up money to acquire a defensive tackle.

Panthers signed restricted free agent S Nate Salley to a one-year, $1.01 million contract.

Salley appeared in 16 games last year as mostly a special teamer. He'll push to be Carolina's third safety behind Charles Godfrey and Chris Harris.

The Panthers extended a low tender to restricted free agent S Nate Salley.

Salley, a former fourth-round pick from Ohio State, has been given many opportunities to start but never capitalized. He should make the team in 2009, but is likely out of chances and will be resigned to covering kicks.

The Panthers tendered exclusive rights free agent FS Nate Salley and LB Brandon Jamison.

Just like last year, free safety is a problem area for Carolina heading to the heart of the offseason. Salley is atop the depth chart at the moment, but that shouldn't last. Jamison is strictly a special teams performer.

Panthers will place FS Nate Salley on injured reserve with a lingering knee problem, ending his season.

A disappointing end to 2007 for Salley, who began training camp as a starter but fell behind Deke Cooper when his knee acted up. OL Jeremy Bridges will be activated from the reserve/suspended list in another roster move.

Panthers S Nate Salley has been ruled out for Sunday's contest.

Salley, who began training camp as a starter at free safety, eventually relinquished the job to Deke Cooper because of constant knee problems.

Nate Salley is currently working as Carolina's first-team free safety.

And 33-year-old Mike Minter is playing the strong spot. Salley, an excellent college run defender who lacks ideal cover skills and long speed, should be able to win the position if the Panthers don't upgrade his competition. It's hard to imagine Salley being any worse than the '06 version of Shaun Williams.

The Charlotte Observer reports Nate Salley and Deke Cooper will work in the Panthers' strong safety spot as minicamps begin, but doesn't believe the team's starter is on the current roster.

Maybe they'll find one in a trade? Laont Thompson (Titans), Eugene Wilson (Patriots), and Chris Crocker (Falcons) might be available. Free agent remnants include Matt Bowen, Lance Schulters, and Terrence Kiel.

Panthers re-signed S Nate Salley to a one-year contract.

The 2006 fourth-round pick made four stops in spot duty as a rookie.
Thu, Apr 5, 2007 12:13:00 AM

Panthers signed rookie safety Nate Salley from the practice squad and released defensive tackle Tony Brown from the active roster.

Salley, a fourth-rounder from Ohio State, will serve as insurance on Sunday. It shows Shaun Williams is for sure not playing. Colin Branch will be Carolina's starting strong safety in Week 3.

Panthers signed fourth-round safety Nate Salley.

Salley has some experience at cornerback, but doesn't have the man skills to play the position in the pros. He'll probably be a free safety.
