Ravens agreed to terms with DE/OLB Elvis Dumervil, formerly of the Broncos, on a five-year contract worth up to $35 million.
Just as some observers began writing off the reigning Super Bowl champs, GM Ozzie Newsome lands -- easily -- the top free agent left on the market. Dumervil will return to 3-4 outside linebacker in Baltimore. He enjoyed his career-best season as a 3-4 rush 'backer in Denver, leading the NFL with 17 sacks in 2009. Don "Wink" Martindale was on Denver's staff during that season and is now the Ravens' linebackers coach. Dumervil, 29, will team with Terrell Suggs to give Baltimore the premier outside-edge rusher duo in football, regardless of scheme. Mar 24 - 4:42 PM

The Denver Post reports that free agent Elvis Dumervil is expected to wait at least one more day before deciding between the Broncos and Ravens.

In other words, he won't be signing with the Dolphins. Dumervil's "preference" is to re-sign with the Broncos, but the Ravens remain interested. He'll likely wait for Osi Umenyiora's deal with the Falcons to be finalized before making his decision.

The Denver Post reports the Dolphins have "jumped into discussions" for free agent Elvis Dumervil.

Dumervil has been weighing offers from the Broncos and Ravens. The Dolphins have more salary cap room than both of those clubs, though Denver beat writer Mike Klis acknowledges that the extent of Miami's Dumervil interest is "unclear." Dumervil, 29, is the premier free agent remaining on the open market.

The Baltimore Sun reports that free agent Elvis Dumervil's "preference" is to re-sign with the Broncos.

It's believed that Dumervil has a three-year contract offer on the table from the Broncos, but the Ravens remain interested. However, Baltimore has yet to schedule a visit with Dumervil. We certainly hope there is a resolution in sight.

The Denver Post reports that free agent Elvis Dumervil has contract offers on the table from the Broncos and Ravens.

Denver's offer is believed to be a three-year deal, and it contains more money up front than Baltimore's proposed deal. However, Dumervil's group isn't fond of the discounted salary in the second year of the offer. We might be nearing an end in this whole Dumervil saga. If the Broncos lose out, it's expected that they'll sign one of Dwight Freeney or John Abraham.

League sources tell the Baltimore Sun the Broncos' "preference" is to re-sign free agent Elvis Dumervil, even though they've scheduled visits with Dwight Freeney and John Abraham.

In other words, bringing in Freeney and Abraham is a power play. Dumervil was reportedly "underwhelmed" by the Broncos' most recent offer, but he's yet to be overwhelmed by anything he's heard in free agency. The situation will likely come to a head sometime in the next 24 hours.
Mar 20 - 7:16 PM

The Titans have "inquired" on free agent Elvis Dumervil.

However, beat writer Jim Wyatt doesn't consider Dumervil a "realistic" option for the Titans. Dumervil is drawing "serious interest" from the Ravens, and has also been linked to the Steelers.
Mar 20 - 5:02 PM

The Denver Post reports free agent Elvis Dumervil was "underwhelmed" by the Broncos' most recent offer, and is planning to begin visiting other teams within the next 48 hours.

Denver reportedly made a three-year offer, but is now "prepared to move on." The Broncos will host free agents Dwight Freeney and John Abraham in the next 24 hours. With neither side appearing keen on a new deal, Dumervil is likely done in Denver. According to the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens still have "serious interest" in Dumervil, but have a "fairly tight" cap situation.
Mar 20 - 4:06 PM

Broncos executive VP John Elway confirms the team is still working to re-sign free agent DE Elvis Dumervil.

"We've offered Elvis a contract," Elway said. "We'd like to have Elvis back. We'd like to get it done as soon as possible, but I'm sure Elvis wants to see what else is out there." Elway did add the team is "exploring other options." Dumervil may take a few more days to explore the market, but it's beginning to look like his best option would be reconciling with the team that cut him loose in a panic move on Friday. The Ravens are his only other known suitor. CBS reports Dumervil is Baltimore's "top target" of available pass rushers.

The Denver Post reports the Ravens are "negotiating" with free agent Elvis Dumervil.

It's unclear if any deal is imminent, but Baltimore's interest is genuine. Dumervil reportedly received a "strong recommendation" from Ravens assistant Wink Martindale, who was Dumervil's position coach when he led the league with 17 sacks in 2009. Dumervil would be a 3-4 outside linebacker in Baltimore.

Mar 18 - 5:16 PM

The Denver Post reports it's "unclear" if the Broncos and free agent DE Elvis Dumervil are interested in a new deal.

Beat writer Mike Klis believes the sides could reach a new accord by agreeing to a 4-5 year pact that sticks a good chunk of Dumervil's 2013 salary into a signing bonus. There are other veteran options on the market, but the Broncos can't afford to come away without one. They currently have a big hole at right end.
Mar 17 - 6:16 PM

The Baltimore Sun reports the Steelers are interested in free agent DE Elvis Dumervil.

Reporter Aaron Wilson considers the Steelers a team to "keep an eye on." Dumervil has now been connected to the Steelers and Ravens since Friday's contract fiasco, and expressed interest in playing for the Dolphins. If the price is right, he'd restore the pass-rushing heat Pittsburgh lost when it cut James Harrison.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports that Elvis Dumervil has agreed to sign with agent Tom Condon.

Dumervil's fired player rep, Marty Magid, waived the five-day waiting period to hire a new agent, so he's now available to sign with teams immediately. The Ravens have Dumervil "firmly" on their radar and are expected to meet with him next week. The Titans and Patriots have also shown interest, though New England can likely be ruled out given their history with Condon.
Mar 16 - 9:17 PM

Free agent Elvis Dumervil's fired player rep, Marty Magid, has agreed to waive Dumervil's five-day waiting period to hire a new agent.

It's the least Magid could do after sabotaging his client's best interest. Dumervil is now eligible to hire another agent immediately, which in turn would allow Dumervil to sign with a team. The Ravens want to bring him in for a visit.
Mar 16 - 5:33 PM

Free agent Elvis Dumervil has fired agent Marty Magid.

Shocking. Magid's last-minute wishy-washiness on Dumervil's pay cut in Denver cost the player money and a chance to stay on a Super Bowl-caliber team. Per NFLPA rules, free agents who fire agents must wait five days before hiring a new one. Thus, Dumervil will be ineligible to sign a contract before late next week.
