Bills signed DT Kyle Williams to a one-year, $10.5 million contract extension through 2017.

Williams was scheduled to count $6.4 million against the cap this season. This is likely a move to help knock that number down after the Bills' recent spending spree. Soon-to-be 32-year-old Williams has blossomed into one of the NFL's top defensive tackles with 20.5 sacks over the past three seasons.

Kyle Williams (knee) is inactive for Week 5 against the Lions.

The Bills will be without both Williams and Nigel Bradham this week. It's a major downgrade to their top-three run defense. The rest of Buffalo's inactives are RB Bryce Brown, WR Marcus Easley, CB Ross Cockrell, RT Cyrus Kouandjio, and LG Chris Williams.

Kyle Williams (knee) is doubtful for Week 5 against the Lions.

It's an upgrade for Reggie Bush, who is a candidate for 20-plus touches with Joique Bell and Theo Riddick sidelined. A combination of Corbin Bryant and Stefan Charles will replace Williams.

Bills DT Kyle Williams left Sunday's Week 4 game with a knee injury and will not return.

Williams was immediately ruled out, suggesting he could be dealing with a serious injury. The Bills also lost LB Nigel Bradham (knee) for the game. Stefan Charles will replace Williams in base sets.

Bills DT Kyle Williams (back) is active for Sunday's Week 13 game against the Falcons.

Williams was questionable coming in, so his presence will be a boost to the Bills' streaming D/ST. Stevie Johnson (groin) and Robert Woods (ankle) are also active and near 100 percent. The Bills' inactives: QB Jeff Tuel, RB Ronnie Wingo, CB Brandon Smith, LB Ty Powell, G J.J. Unga, G Antoine McClain and TE Chris Gragg.

Updating a previous item, Bills NT Kyle Williams (Achilles') has received medical clearance for training camp.

Williams underwent offseason surgery to repair a bone spur on his heel and missed the entire spring. He's nearing 100 percent now. "As of now he’s full go," said GM Doug Whaley. "I think they’re going to limit him in practice ... and not put too much on him right off the bat, but he is not going to be on PUP."

DT Kyle Williams (Achilles') is not practicing as Bills camp opens.

Williams had February surgery to repair bone spurs in his right heel. Note that he had a similar procedure on his left heel in 2011. "It's getting better," said Williams, a two-time Pro Bowler. "It's just missing just a little bit. But it's close and I'm getting better."

Bills DT Kyle Williams (Achilles') remains on track to be 100 percent for training camp.

Williams underwent a "cleanup" operation shortly after the season. His right Achilles' was "frayed." Coming off a strong campaign, Williams will be one of the focal points of new coordinator Mike Pettine's defense.

Bills DT Kyle Williams (Achilles') said he will be ready for training camp.

Williams needed a cleanup on his right Achilles' tendon after playing in all 16 games last season. It's not nearly as severe as the ruptured left Achilles' tendon that kept him out of 11 games in 2011. Williams, still very effective at age 29, projects as the anchor of new DC Mike Pettine's interior.
Tue, May 28, 2013 12:53:00 PM confirms DT Kyle Williams is recovering from surgery on his right Achilles' tendon.

Williams had left Achilles' surgery last year. While he avoided a complete rupture of the right Achilles' -- it was "frayed" -- he's yet to be medically cleared to participate in any workouts. Last year's rehab of a similar injury sidelined Williams for five months. Williams remained highly effective, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 3 defensive tackle behind Geno Atkins and Gerald McCoy. The buildup of surgeries is still a concern.

Bills DT Kyle Williams is likely to undergo Achilles' tendon surgery this offseason.

Williams underwent Achilles' surgery on his left foot last year. This time, the issue is on his right side. The good news is that there isn't a complete rupture, meaning his timetable will be in the six month range. Williams played through the injury in the final 10 games of the season, finishing with 46 tackles and a career-high five sacks.

Bills DTs Kyle Williams (questionable, ankle) and Spencer Johnson (questionable, ankle) are both expected to play in Week 7.

Both players were limited during practice this week but will suit up against the Titans and Chris Johnson. After grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 1 defensive tackle in 2011, Williams comes in at No. 7 in the rankings so far in 2012. Also listed as questionable for Buffalo's defense is CB Terrence McGee (knee) and Da'Norris Searcy (ankle).

Bills DT Kyle Williams had another strong outing in Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers.

WGR 550 Buffalo reporter Joe Buscaglia noted Williams' performance as "imposing his will on every play," "first off the line every time," and "just ridiculous." It's a good sign for Williams, who may not even be back to 100-percent health after undergoing foot surgery last season. Williams was Pro Football Focus' top-rated defensive tackle in 2010.

Bills DT Kyle Williams (foot surgery) is expected to be back to full strength by training camp.

After monitoring Williams during OTAs and minicamp,'s Chris Brown pointed out that his "sudden burst off the ball was there and knifing through gaps was evident." Arguably the game's best 4-3 nose tackle when healthy, Williams will anchor the middle of the up-and-coming Buffalo defense.
