Bills re-signed DT Kyle Williams to a one-year, $6 million contract.
GM Brandon Beane recently said he expected Williams to continue his career, and it was always unlikely he left Buffalo, where he has been since being selected in the fifth round of the 2006 draft. With Star Lotulelei now on board, the Bills should have a better defensive tackle group in 2018. Mar 13 - 12:27 PM

Bills GM Brandon Beane said the last time he talked to impending free agent DT Kyle Williams, the veteran tackle was planning to play in 2018.

Williams is set to turn 35 in June, but he played 801 solid snaps for Buffalo last season. A fifth-round pick in 2006, Williams has spent his entire career with the Bills, so it is likely he will re-sign if he intends to keep playing. Even if Williams comes back, the Bills need some help along the defensive line.

Coach Sean McDermott announced DT Kyle Williams will be back with the Bills in 2017.

Set to count $8.3 million against the cap in the final year of his deal and coming up on his 34th birthday, Williams' roster spot was believed to be "extremely vulnerable." It's possible the two sides have agreed to a pay cut, but either way, Williams figures to be a fine fit in McDermott's 4-3 front.

The Buffalo News' Vic Carucci considers DT Kyle Williams' roster spot "extremely vulnerable."

Especially if the Bills keep Tyrod Taylor, they will have to make some cap-saving moves. Turning 34 in June, Williams carries an $8.3 million cap number and would save the Bills $6.8 million if released. Williams would make a lot of sense in Philadelphia as a replacement for impending free agent NT Bennie Logan. Williams had a monster year under Eagles DC Jim Schwartz with Buffalo in 2014, dominating as both an interior pass rusher and run defender.

Bills DT Kyle Williams hinted that he plans on returning for next season.

"They want me back and I'm just going to prepare like I am," said Williams after Friday's practice with the AFC Pro Bowl team. "We'll see where we end up." The 33-year-old brought up retirement earlier this month but now it sounds like he'll play to end of his contract, which expires after 2017. Williams earned PFF's fifth-highest grade among 3-4 defensive ends in 2016.

When asked about retirement, Bills DT Kyle Williams said he will "evaluate everything over the next couple of weeks."

"As far as a timeline, I don't really have one," Williams added. "We'll kind of go with the flow." The 33-year-old struggled with a back injury late in the season after undergoing meniscus surgery the year before. Williams remains an elite run defender, but he might not want to put his body through another season. Williams is set to earn $6.8 million in salary and bonuses in 2017, the final year of his deal.

Bills DE Kyle Williams (back) is listed as questionable for Week 15.

He was limited on Friday and will be a game-time decision. The Bills were gashed in run defense by the Steelers last week, and Williams is a difference maker in the run game. His absence would help Isaiah Crowell's outlook.

Kyle Williams (back) did not practice again Thursday.

Williams said he is hopeful about returning this Sunday, but he has not missed the first two practices of the week. The veteran could play without any practice reps, but it would be good to see him back to work on Friday. The Bills' run defense is much better when Williams is active.

Bills DT Kyle Williams (back) did not practice Wednesday.

Williams sat out last week's game against the Steelers, and the Bills were completely run over by Le'Veon Bell. Williams is hopeful he can return this week, and the Bills will need him against a Browns offense which wants to lean on the run.

Bills coach Rex Ryan is "concerned" about Kyle Williams' (back, questionable) availability.

Williams' back reportedly locked up Thursday night and he was not able to practice Friday. Jerel Worthy will take on a bigger role if Williams cannot play.

Williams had meniscus surgery last November. He was considered questionable for Week 1, but getting off the PUP list this early in camp guarantees he will be ready if he avoids setbacks. The Bills announced fellow DT Marcell Dareus also passed his physical.
