Patriots activated DE Rob Ninkovich from the reserve/suspended list.
Ninkovich was given a 4-6 week timetable for his triceps issue in early August. He wasn't listed on the Week 5 injury report and will make his 2016 debut against the Browns. Ninkovich's return will improve a New England pass rush that has seven sacks through four weeks. Oct 8 - 5:02 PM

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Patriots DE Rob Ninkovich (triceps) is "healthy enough" to play this week.

Ninkovich was dealing with a triceps injury before he was hit with a four-game suspension for violating the PED policy. He is close to full health now, however, and should be active against the Browns.
Oct 3 - 12:43 PM

Patriots signed DE Rob Ninkovich to a one-year extension.

The deal comes with a $1.5 million signing bonus, but reduces his salary to $1M this year. New England is buying low with Ninkovich suspended the first four games. Ninkovich is now signed through 2017.
Sep 11 - 10:31 AM

NFL suspended Patriots DE Rob Ninkovich four games for violating the league's performance-enhancing drugs policy.

Ninkovich was already expected to miss at least the first two games of the season with a torn triceps. This gives the Patriots a way to not rush him back. The only problem now is that he can't be around the team the first four weeks and loses four game checks. Ninkovich's ban may have led to the Patriots trading for Barkevious Mingo last week. He'll help off the edge.
Sep 2 - 2:14 PM

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Patriots DE Rob Ninkovich (triceps) is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

This news is about as good as the Patriots could have hoped for after Ninkovich was hurt on Tuesday. By the sound of it, Ninkovich simply tore his triceps muscle, not the tendon, which would have required surgery and a likely trip to I.R. Ninkovich could be ready Week 1 at the earliest. At the very worst, he'll be back at some point in September and maybe miss just two games.
Aug 9 - 10:22 PM

The Boston Herald reports Patriots DE Rob Ninkovich (torn triceps) will be out "weeks not months."

Torn triceps are typically season-ending injuries, but it appears Ninkovich tore "just" the muscle and not his tendon. He doesn't need surgery. ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss has reported "how much (Ninkovich's) loss of strength affects him is key." We'd consider Ninkovich extremely doubtful for Week 1, but perhaps he'll be back before the end of September.
Aug 9 - 7:52 PM

Patriots DE Rob Ninkovich has been diagnosed with a torn triceps, and is out indefinitely.

Encouragingly, Ninkovich does not need surgery. Torn triceps are often season-enders, but NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Ninkovich could return as early as October. That's an absolute best-case scenario, and probably unlikely. Ninkovich has started every game for the Patriots each of the past five seasons, playing 905 snaps in 2015. His loss creates opportunity for Shea McClellin and Chris Long.
Aug 9 - 5:46 PM

Patriots DE Rob Ninkovich will undergo an MRI after being forced from Tuesday's practice with a triceps injury.

Yikes. It's quite possible it's purely precautionary, but an MRI indicates at least some level of concern. A tear would endanger, if not outright torpedo, Ninkovich's 2016. Ninkovich has appeared in all 16 games every year since 2010.
Aug 9 - 1:24 PM

Patriots DE Rob Ninkovich is getting work at inside linebacker during minicamp.

"I’ve played multiple positions many times in my life," Ninkovich said. "Wherever I’m at, really, it’s just to help the team, do whatever I can and be multiple. I figure that’s one of the strengths of my game is being able to play different positions." With a lot of depth at end and a thin linebacker group, the Patriots are likely just cross training Ninkovich so he can fill in during an injury pinch. Ninkovich has 42 sacks in seven seasons with the Patriots.
Jun 9 - 10:06 AM

Patriots signed LE Rob Ninkovich to a three-year contract extension through 2016.

Ninkovich is one of the more underrated players in the league. He was in the final year of his contract before agreeing to the extension through his age-32 season. Ninkovich has yet to register a sack this season, but he recorded 18.5 of them from 2010-12. He also forced five fumbles last season.

ESPN Boston considers LE Rob Ninkovich a candidate for a long-term extension.

Ninkovich is in the final season of a two-year, $4 million contract. The Patriots currently have $8.32 million cap space, so he could be signed to a multi-year deal before training camp. Ninkovich had five forced fumbles and led New England with eight sacks in 2012. Brandon Spikes and Ryan Wendell are also set to become free agents following the season.

ESPN Boston believes DE Rob Ninkovich is a candidate for a contract extension this offseason.

Ninkovich was among the Patriots' most valuable 2012 defenders, leading the team with eight sacks and forcing five fumbles. Thanks to playing time and performance incentives, his 2013 base salary -- the final year of his contract -- has already jumped from $900,000 to $1.4 million. After the Patriots address free agency, Ninkovich could be in line to get a couple years tacked on. He'll turn 29 on Friday.

Patriots DE Rob Ninkovich (hip) is expected to play in Sunday's Divisional Round game against the Texans.

Ninkovich strained muscles in his hip during Week 17, but got a little work in last week and was a limited participant on Wednesday. Ninkovich led the Patriots with eight sacks this season.
Thu, Jan 10, 2013 09:57:00 AM

Patriots DE Rob Ninkovich (hip) returned to practice on Thursday.

Ninkovich was lucky to escape serious injury in the regular-season finale. With a week and half to go before the Divisional Round playoff game, the Patriots should have their sack leader back in action.
Thu, Jan 3, 2013 04:49:00 PM

Patriots DE Rob Ninkovich (hip) has "avoided a serious injury" and has a "good chance" to play when the Patriots open up their playoff schedule on January 13.

Ninkovich left Sunday's win over the Dolphins and never returned to the contest, so there was certainly a level of concern for the Patriots' sack master. Reportedly, he's just suffered some "strained muscles in his hip." Ninkovich set a new career-high with eight sacks this season. He'll have two weeks to rest up as the Patriots secured a first-round bye for the postseason.
